As speculated last week; 10 YO Red Breast CS

€100 is a tasty price for it
The 12 CS is cheaper. But the limited run adds a cost, and a value on the secondary.
Some will probably think the 12CS is better value being older. But I'm a big sherry fan. I rate the Lustau over the 12. I'm pretty tempted by this.

Ah, might just have been while they were adding it. Seems OK now.

    Got one!

Won't sell out that fast. Just need to give it a minute to load.

That was a bit on an impulse buy.

Looks like it was just when it was added alright

Yup. I was complaining about the cost of something earlier on, and the Ulster Bank "You've been paid" text came through at 11.50.

    Sake.

There no way I can justify buying this.

    But I still bought it.

I could justify it. As I said I was tempted above.

Now I'm trying to justify the extra bottle. :pac:

Batch 1 is limited but batch number suggests that there will be more. I can't see what the abv is.

I suppose €100 isnt bad value when you consider what Dingle charge for a cask strength single pot still with no age statement. Even Waterford are charging €75 for their single malts.

Does anyone know if the Teeling Single grain is any good? I really enjoyed the Kilbeggan 8 from Aldi. There's a sale on in O Brien's now.

I'm picking up two bottles the second I'm thinking either Drumshanbo Pot Still or Knappogue 14 tough choices. I've about 100e to spend on two bottles

Does anyone have experience with Sailor's Home? I see that a lot of bottles are on sale from master of malt.

Haven't tried any of them myself, but the guy who distilled it said that the Haven is his favourite in the range.

I'm another who couldn't justify buying the new Redbreast, but just bought two bottles of it.

Teeling Single Grain is one of my favourites. I picked up another in O' Brien's the other day. Serious value for money.

Anyone tried any the Spade & Bushel bottlings from Connaught Whiskey?

Bought a bottle of the Drumshambo Inaugural Release from O'Briens, very nicely packaged, be interesting to see how it compares to the standard release. It's an extra €20 more expensive, partially I guess for the novelty/collectible value.

Yes but I feel that we are asking the wrong question, is this pricing model okay in the first place?

I've had dingle and I've had waterford and I wasn't blown away and everyone I shared with the waterford with weren't blown away either and were schocked at the price. I spent 80 pounds sterling on the waterford.

Edit: Distilleries will chance their arm and price bottles hoping that the consumer will be willing to shoulder the cost. The price of young whiskey is shocking.

Found I likes the standard one to be fair, let me know if you agree.

I have tried a few of the Waterford releases (samples) and the Ratheadon 1.1 was impressive.
The others, while v nice, I would not put in same league (Bannow Island 1.1, Sheestown 1.2, Gaia 1.1).
If I'd bought a full bottle for €75 of the Ratheadon I'd be happy enough, the others not so much.

I agree, non stop newer whiskeys are coming with higher and higher prices, it's like the ceiling price has been raised many times now.

I assume lots are really just cooley/bushmills etc with some finishing - which makes the price less justified in my opinion.

Give it to the drumshanbo guys/gals - they have been working on the project for some years. You can tell (sausage tree vodka first, Gin next and now the whiskey).

If its more than RB 12 and Green spot it would want a good story or to justify it properly.

100% agree, I think the Irish whiskey market is massively overpriced for what it is, and one of the reasons its never going to get ahead of scotch for a long time to come.

To think the waterford whiskey range is competing at the same price as lagavulin 16 price wise in foreign markets is insane. How much will 10/12/15/20 year single malts be from the likes of Waterford, Dingle etc when the time comes to release them. Theres only so much the market will bare before consumers realise theyre being ripped off.

The novelty of Waterford for the first few releases and how they were going about their business [sans gin etc], made it somewhat "worth the money".

I'm intrigued by the likes of the Hook Head terroir, but their stuff will only be sampled in 'sample' format going forward unless one of them truly is worth forking out for.

    Speaking of Lag16... :P
