I think I'll grab a bottle of the Ratheadon at that price.

The other one that caught my attention was the Drumshanbo Inaugural Release. Anyone got any feedback on that?

That Inaugural Drumshambo also caught my attention insofar as it is reduced to €75 whereas last year i think it was available on sale for €60 down from €70. I’ve yet to open mine.

    I've only tasted the Rathedon.
I think it's a really elegant whisky with a lovely depth.
I'd also kind of elusive - seems to change every time I drink it.
    For me, it's good value.
The Ratheadon (1.1 and 1.2) is a lovely drop.

Wasn't that into the Ballkilcavan (1.1).

Agree with the 'changing taste' comment. Find the same thing with it.

I recently tried the Ratheadon 1.2 and I have to say that I couldn't take to it at all, it tasted nothing like any Irish whiskey that I have tasted. I made 3 attempts at it hoping that I would like it, but alas its not for me. I gave the bottle to a mate who described it as "not a bad little whiskey"smile.png

In other news the O'briens sale has emptied my wallet, I have a Dingle single pot still, Irishman 12yo single malt, Method & Madness single malt, Powers Johns Lane and a Jameson Black Barrel to add to the collection. The Black Barrel is the only one that I have tasted before, im really looking forward to sampling the rest.

Cracked open this Friend at Hand 13 year old single malt. It’s their #9 (The Nine Glens).

Got to say I appreciate the 46% abv, it lifts this up nicely.

Came with a mini poem book around the neck.

    Campfire smoke and iodine
Grilled fish, ash and heavy brine
These are favourite things of mine
And I find them in this dram

    And verily I must confess
This surely is among the best
To put some hairs upon your chest
Even if you are a ma’am

The other thing is that their hybrid or column still aren't continuous column still s but are pot stills with a column stuck on top. This is not what the technical file means when it refers to "column still" - what they mean is a Coffey still - a totally different affair.

Anyway, Revenue have to sign off on any equipment used in the production of Irish whisky - I wonder if an iStill has been signed off on.
That makes sense. The tech file does mention coffey still specifically.
I was in a gin distillery recently. They had a similar hybrid set up. A copper pot still connected to a column type affair.

I received my very decent sized sample in the post this week - with a tasting glass. Not bad for a freebie!

    Any good?

Preferred the standard one, have them both and tried them a few times. Always the standard one comes out on top.

It was ok. Informative enough, but it felt like the presenters / hosts were just repeating the same thing after while. I think it’s difficult to maintain interest when only one whiskey is being sampled. There’s nothing to compare it to.

I enjoyed the whisky though, and I’m not really a fan of CS in general (although I love the standard Roe & Co).

I ending up buying a bottle of the CS as well as the standard. So my “freebie” ending up costing me €105. Roe & Co’s marketing manager deserves a promotion.

Drumshanbo inaugural seemed to be sold out by this morning. Ordered one last evening and shipped today apparently, so that's good. I expect it to have the gift box as they don't indicate otherwise.

They all come in the nice packaging best I know.

    What's the Dundanglan like there?

I picked a bottle of it up in Lidl a few months ago, thought it was very good.

Have to agree was very happy with it. Both it and the West Cork one I would consider good drinkin whiskeys. No guilt about drinkin a €27 bottle. Similar to the Puca in that regard.

The Drunshambo on the other hand. That’s a ****in special whiskey.

    Hi guys
I thought crested replaced crested ten,
Is crested ten still for sale or what’s this bottle sell for

Afaik the contents of the bottle didn't change between "Crested Ten" and "Crested".
Jameson just re-named it because Ten suggested it contained 10 year old whiskey.

Celtic Whiskey Shop have the discontinued bottling listed at €85 versus €35 for the new labelling.

Crested ten was given a makeover in 2016 and renamed crested. Only five years ago so there might be a few errant ones about on dusty shelves. The bottle you have has been going at auction the last few months for 60-80 with the box.

I remember ordering Crested in Chaplins pub on Hawkins Street in January 2019 (FA Cup game was on) and it was still the old bottling on the shelf.

Saw this one by itself on shelf in local shop, so picked it up,
Was comparing it to crested prices but got it for 35

I am still grabbing the Tullamore Dew Caribbean Rum Cask finish by default for the start of the whiskey..
Finished tonight with a Laphroaig QA cask..

Tullamore nearly all gone but thanks to bad people on here I have a Ratheadon on the way as well as a West Cork Glengariff Peat ( purely for my Peat fascination check)

This type of post may not be welcome here, but i tried the Cold Brew Jameson this weekend with some coke as suggested on the label.

Was quite nice but i would prefer this whiskey straight, coke covered a lot of the flavour of it.

My dad got a bottle of Haig for his birthday, anyone ever tried it? Think its just the normal one.

I got gifted a bottle of that and it tastes to me like Jameson mixed with stale coffee. Planning to use it up in irish coffee but I might try it with coke as well sure.

Cold Brew is the only whiskey I've ever poured down the sink. I didn't give it away, because I couldn't think of anybody I disliked enough to give it to. :pac:

    That's unfair to stale coffee.

Jameson Cold Brew isn't whiskey by any stretch of the imagination.

Your comment is VERY welcome .Despite some suggestions to 'enjoy it how you like it' any true whiskey lover knows neat or with a tiny drop of water is the ONLY way to drink proper whiskey .Using cola etc is surely only disguising nasty spirit .

Please don't assume to know what every whiskey lover knows.

I love whiskey so much that I invested in a distillery, and I know different.
(I wonder why I bother even responding to such posts, but I can't help rising to the bait).

    Also, please define "proper whiskey".
