What Whisky/Whiskey are we drinking this month?

I know there's a thread on recommending Whiskeys/Whiskys but there's none on general tasting as far as I can see.

Similar premise to the beer thread, but we'll say month instead of week as drinking a €50/60 bottle of Whiskey/Whisky a week is probably not a good idea...

I picked up a bottle of The Glenlivet Master Distillers Reserve on my travels recently. No age statement.

Not the most complex Whisky in the world. It's quite nice though, smooth and fruity, very strong taste of pears, and a tiny bit of spice. Drank with a splash of water.

The Irish Whiskey Society are having a members tasting at the end of March. Goes on sale this Wednesday at 7pm. Another one I'll be skipping as I've tried 4 of them before and have a sample of the other one.

Currently the Irish whiskey category is growing in extremely fast pace both within Ireland and worldwide, we are seeing a range of independent brands appearing on the market.

Which is why for our March tasting we would like to invite our members to experience some of the exciting whiskeys from some well regarded Independent bottlers. We are delighted to have special guests from each brand to present and guide us through their expressions.

1. Horizon - 10 yr Blend 43% ABV: matured for at least 10 years in American Bourbon casks. Expert finishing in selected Barbados Rum casks

2. Liberator Double port - Cask strength 62.1% ABV: blend with high malt content and finished in Tawny and Ruby port casks.

3. W.D O'Connell 18yr - PX - ABV 58.16%: matured in 1st fill bourbon barrels for 17 years and further 13 months in a Pedro Ximénez sherry cask.

4. CURRACH Single Malt Cask Strength Founder Cask - Wakame 58.4% ABV : finished in Irish Wakame seaweed charred casks.

5. Two Stacks - Smoke & Mirrors - Cask Strength 57% - Peated Stout Single Malt - Sherry finish and x Dot Brewing Finish.

Your comment is VERY welcome .Despite some suggestions to 'enjoy it how you like it' any true whiskey lover knows neat or with a tiny drop of water is the ONLY way to drink proper whiskey .Using cola etc is surely only disguising nasty spirit .

Jameson Cold Brew isn't whiskey by any stretch of the imagination.

I am still grabbing the Tullamore Dew Caribbean Rum Cask finish by default for the start of the whiskey..
Finished tonight with a Laphroaig QA cask..

Tullamore nearly all gone but thanks to bad people on here I have a Ratheadon on the way as well as a West Cork Glengariff Peat ( purely for my Peat fascination check)

Afaik the contents of the bottle didn't change between "Crested Ten" and "Crested".
Jameson just re-named it because Ten suggested it contained 10 year old whiskey.

Celtic Whiskey Shop have the discontinued bottling listed at €85 versus €35 for the new labelling.

Have to agree was very happy with it. Both it and the West Cork one I would consider good drinkin whiskeys. No guilt about drinkin a €27 bottle. Similar to the Puca in that regard.

The Drunshambo on the other hand. That’s a ****in special whiskey.
