Why are they using the word 'mutant' instead of 'mutation'?

And 'ninja' was thought to be the 'edgy' word in this brand...

The country is being ruled by NPHET and supported by Facebook and the permanently outraged and permanently vulnerable I think is the point though. There is no government much less an opposition or a press.

very true...nphet are running the show...the government are so weak they dare not go against nphet ...i think whatever testis the government had were well and truly clipped after christmas(when cases go through the roof as of course they would in winter anyway whatever was opened or closed) and the power pendulum swung back to nphet...i think construction might open end of april with level 3 by may if we are lucky...im pretty sure nphet are major anti-drink and are quite happy pubs are going to wall..prob see it as a bonus curing our unhealthy(in their view)association with booze...

Thats been said here since this time last year. Wait and see as soon as they are vaccinated they will be the very ones refusing to obey the restrictions.

More power to her really. I’d love to be able to do so. Unfortunately being fit and healthy in Ireland means I’ll be stuck here for a while longer protecting the old and the vulnerable.

Something I mentioned for a few months was a lack of focus by media highlighting the risk of obesity and need to address the issue with great importance.

The message should be hit the gym, not stay at home

    https://www.worldobesityday.org/assets/downloads/COVID-19-and-Obesity-The-2021-Atlas.pdf

Old age and obesity is the cause of the severity of this disease. Let nobody say it’s not a 1st world illness.

Would we even need a vaccine of obesity wasn’t so prevalent?

Totally agree, we have a beatiful outdoors in this country, message should be get out there and enjoy it, not stay in and hide under the bed.

Very low chance of catching it outdoors, this should be pushed home to people. Help with mental health and give the country a boost.

Are the posters who are in total support of the EUs longest and costliest mitigation measures, to prevent spreading a transmissible respiratory illness, going to support these measures for the rest of time?

Or is there a number of deaths people would be happy with every year?

Just for the record, lest I be tarred with this brush, I think the current measures are OTT. Construction should be open, click and collect should be operating and the 5km thing should be binned.

    This is the way.

Same thing happened in england. Once the older cohort got vaccinated they started booking foreign holidays en masse.

Looking at the State media organisation they have a different slant of course. 6 arrested, including 2 in Kildare. Looks like there was a concerted Garda effort to stop people attending and exercising their constitutional right of peaceful assembly. Of course, they had to mention the lack of masks. Which is surprising as they are not an actual requirement outdoors here yet.

    https://www.newstalk.com/news/no-guarantee-construction-will-be-able-to-fully-reopen-on-april-5th-obrien-1160230
The Housing Minister has said there's no guarantee that construction will be able to fully open on April 5th.
"We're operating with a new variant now... it's responsible for over 90% of the virus [cases]. It's more transmissible."

Really unlucky that this mutant might prevent construction reopening next month.

Although we are lucky that we have information on the mutant’s that the rest of the globe doesn’t and we will keep construction closed accordingly

Has anyone actually hid under a bed from covid? :D

Funny thing is anytime I head to the shops etc the place is full of the old and the “vulnerable”. No problem obviously with that but aren’t these the people that should be limiting their movements.

Maybe they've had Covid, had the vaccine, can't get a delivery slot...is this the anti-lockdown version of ''curtain twitching'' perhaps?

    400/500 people protest in Cork.

The flat earth society has more support than these people :)

    Media outlets about the protest:

Independent.ie, more than 700 there, main headline "Cork anti-lockdown demonstration staged without serious incident as Gardaí mount major security operation".

Irishtimes.com, about 700, main headline "Cork anti-lockdown protest, attended by hundreds, passes peacefully".

RTE.ie, between 400 and 500, main headline "Six arrests over anti-lockdown protest in Cork".

You do know there was a major Garda effort to prevent people from travelling to it.

Four of which were breaking the 5km. It is serious misinformation.

What I find astonishing is how blasé people are about the, what appears to be, indefinite suspension of ancient liberties. The government has taken everything from the people and they haven't send an end all to the suspension. People just assume that their freedoms will be restored. I'm not that confident that hey will. We shouldn't forget that these are fundamental freedoms. Yes, there is a virus out there, but these are fundamental freedoms. The government doesn't grant us freedoms.

Wouldn't it be good to let counties with a very low incidence rate to begin to open now?

And to keep highest concentration counties closed, until levels drop accordingly.

Why the entire country is now treated as if there is "widespread community transmission" is beyond me.

Kerry has 7x fewer cases than Offaly. By all means, keep Offaly closed off, but let Kerry and other low-incidence counties open to some degree.

This broad-brush approach to lockdown is incredibly stupid and illogical.

Because we are a tiny island nation where driving 3 hours in any direction could see you falling off the side.

Nobody is saying lift the 5km limit.

We could keep that limit and still allow certain counties to open up sooner.

Or it could be modified to intra-county travel only for those counties; or a version of the above.

But treating Kerry the same as Offaly or Dublin is beyond all conception of reason.

Garda tactics definitely seem to have changed since Crew Harris has come in.

The problem is you open up kerry, parts of cork and Limerick are within the 5k, so it spreads there, then kilkenny tipp and galway come into play, and within 3 weeks the whole west coast explodes......

I'm not against the idea of localised openings and lockdowns, but ireland is just too small for it to be workable.
