Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

While these endless days of cloud are never great, they are more acceptable in early March compared to June, July and August. Hopefully we get all the cloud now followed by what looks like more westerlies and unsettled zonality after this weekend rather than being stuck in this rut throughout summer 2021.

We had beautiful weather last week for a few days, did we not?
Today was nice in the evening, it brightened up a bit. I like this weather and will take this calm dry stuff over the usual windy rainy nonsense.

Soundings are very good for low level snow in Northern Ireland, it’s a pity there is no precipitation.

    Cloudy morning in Kildare

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,142 ✭✭✭OldRio

It looks like another cloudy day. The memory of the 4 hours of sun we got nearly 10 days ago is a distant past. The ground is still wet but slowly, ever so slowly drying.

How the Scandinavians and the like put up with the lack of sunlight I know not. Vitamin D supplements are taken daily in this household.

The only sign of Spring is the daffodils in bloom and the toads moving en mass to breeding grounds.

Bright start in the West......the lawn may be cut yet

Another cold, dull weather in Dublin but nice and dry so I don't mind.

It would be nice if we got some sun for the weekend though.

Has brightened up in D5, lovely day now, especially when you think of how bad March can be.

Is anyone else’s grass still brown? It’s bone dry here again similar to the easterly, roads are white again.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 2,254 ✭✭✭Nqp15hhu

    Grass round here.

Looks a normal colour for hilly areas.

Don’t insult my intelligence Pad. That’s not true, I live here and so know what the normal colour is. Otherwise I wouldn't have raised it.

Looks like normal Irish grass to me.

What a class week of weather. It's bone dry. Cut the lawn today.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,174 ✭✭✭pauldry

That grass is normal enough colour. Its early March not late April. Growth a little behind average but nothing major.

However 4th successive cloudy day in Sligo with nearly zero sun. I prefer a day of sunshine and showers. I love weather but I hate dull boring weather.

I wonder will there be a thread created for next Tue/Wed potential wind and rain event?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 2,254 ✭✭✭Nqp15hhu

Nah it’s not a typical colour at all. Not for my location.

The winter just gone (but arguably still in full swing) was weighted more toward cold days than mild, so no doubt this had an effect on grass colour in some spots. Though I have to say, the grass colour in the pics posted above looks pretty typical for exposed regions in the winter.

Really not sure how some are getting to cut their lawns etc at this point in the year. Grass around here shows no sign of growth at all, and despite the ongoing current dry spell, drying itself has been very poor throughout. Soil is still as squelchy as ever. No sun either today for the 4th day in a row. Typically, this sort of pattern would bring ample sun to Connacht, but not this time around it seems, but I'm not complaining. Dry, cloudy, hazy weather has it's own charm.

I have noticed the anticyclones this year have been unusually cloudy. Ground is dry here, haven’t cut grass in weeks either.

I can't cut the grass here. The ground is still to wet.
Crap cold day. Wind is icy. Not seen the Sun for over a week.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,023 ✭✭✭Donegal Storm

Grass in upland areas is brown here as well but moorland is always brown at this time of year so can't say I've taken much notice of it

And agreed on cutting the lawn, always find it bizarre seeing people talking about getting the lawnmower out in Jan and Feb, I usually don't cut it at all between October & April and its always perfectly fine

Overcast in Donegal again as well, don't think I've seen the sun once in the past week

In the park today and great to see it bone dry.

All the muck has dried up as no rain here for a week.

Finally we are not covered in muck when we come home

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,693 ✭✭✭SleetAndSnow

Went for a walk around the Lee Fields in Cork today. Was still totally flooded a few days ago, and today bar one or two puddles in the grass you wouldn't even have noticed it was flooded. lovely day

MT is predicting a warmish Paddy’s day. Hope so as I am booking the 18th & 19th off.

One of the best days of the year so far in Meath, unbroken gin blue skies and mild sunshine. Lots of people walking and cycling and the sound of lawnmowers.

Raining steadily here past three hours in Donegal, strange to see the rain back we have been spoilt

Fab day in South Wicklow. Nice to be putting sun cream on the kids and drinking coffee sitting out the back all day.
