Have you looked at the vaccine list?

4th priority group is people aged 16 to 69 at very high risk of severe Covid.

7th is 16 to 65 and high risk of severe Covid

I missed that in Group 4, AZ/Moderna are approved from 18 and over, Pfizer from 16 (with Pfizer currently being prioritised for those over 80).

By the looks of it recently updated 25 Feb, but she got sorted anyway elsewhere

Would be interested in the data on this - Can you link please.

ETA according to John Boyle data to be released on Tuesday ?

@ khalessi, my point is if you believe that all teachers should be vaccinated, would you then not agree all appropriately aged students should be vaccinated also. The risk imo is pretty much the same but strangely I hear no one calling for these students to be vaccinated. And rightly so imo but there is no difference between an 18 year old student and a 25 year old teacher. In fact tomorrow the LCs go back for full days at school. Many of their teachers will not do full days in the same crowded spaces.

Well lets put it this way she was told not getting it due to age
    Her parents sorted it though

It's been like that since the list was published, when Pfizer was initially approved it was approved for use in people aged 16 and over.

I find it worrying if this is not common knowledge to GPs and consultants or whoever told her that.

Teachers have repeatedly called for a variety of safety measures to protect students and school staff all have been ignored and generally slated on here to tbh.

It is gas that there are people on here who wil go out of their way (not you) to argue against teachers getting a vaccine but will not open their mouth about the lack of safety measures even though they might have sons, daughters, nieces nephews or grandchildren returning to school.

A number of consultants told her this as the vaccine had not been tested on children therefore wasn't authorised for use with under 18s. Interesting CF advocate Orla Tinsley wa salso complaining about this up till a few days ago

Obviously not confirmed but worrying nonetheless.

save the trouble and jazz it up

The next 4 months are gonna be quite stressful on us LCs.

I’m happy to return to school despite being a bit nervous since I’m higher risk, but honestly what can I do at this point? My school has decided (even though they’re not advised anymore) to do mocks.

My mocks begin on the 8th-16th and I’m feeling woefully underprepared. I know they don’t go towards anything, but I’m not really sure why we’re doing them now considering they’ve said they’re letting us answer less stuff on the paper, but since we don’t know what the new layout is, I’m not going to be sitting an exam that reflects the one in June....

As it stands currently, I’m going to be in school for about 13 hours a day (excluding Wednesday) studying my Áss off in after school study and late study. Then I’ll be going to Saturday study too... Then I have a week and 2 days of school to study a ton for my Oral exams in Easter.

I know I should’ve been studying more at home for my mocks since we were told this week they were going ahead. But I find it super hard to study in a home environment where I’m not interacting with people or have people around me working hard... it’s why I enjoyed going to the library in 5th year.

After the protest yesterday which I called would happen in a post I made about a week ago, I feel as a country we’re actually doomed... I just hope it doesn’t go bottoms up in 2-3 weeks when we’re getting 2k cases a day because society thinks just because school is open it’s okay to go out and live a normal life...

My opinion is still that they’re trying to reopen way too early, I know numbers are fluctuating, but our 700 cases now is roughly equivalent to about 1200 cases from the first variant since this new one spreads way quicker.

Here’s hoping that I don’t die or contract covid :o
Can’t wait for the next 4 months of pain

You don't think it's fantastic to see people outdoors enjoying a beautiful day?

    I do.

Doesn't mean we don't know there's a pandemic, hell it's been rammed down our throats for the past 12 months.

Nothing wrong with people being outside, enjoying themselves, what's the problem?

Didn't I read that the DES said mocks aren't to happen? Max of three in class tests per subject between now and May 14th or did I misinterpret what I read?

There were loads of people out on the streets of Dublin yesterday, enjoying themselves. Grafton Street/St. Stephen's Green area. Do you support this too?

Yep, that's the document. Every school I know has cancelled them, it's the only part of the document not open to interpretation or severely lacking in detail.

I believe the document said it was "strongly advised" since we've missed out on school time, however it is up to the school with holding mocks or not. But my school has said that our mocks will be going ahead as a way to practice for our exams...

The idea is, we don't HAVE to sit them, but you most likely will (i.e. I probably won't sit the OL maths mock since im not even sitting the exam anyway)

I don't really mind doing a mock, but I wish we could've had a longer time in school before them, which we can't.

You are absolutely correct though I believe 80% of school incl my GF's has cancelled them. I know these mocks don't go towards anything, but seeing me do worse than average won't really help my confidence... although that's more on me than the school... :/

Just looking at the school calendar for my kids in primary. Full week off at the June bank holiday. What's that about? It's not usually a week off is it?

It's up to the school to decide. Primary schools are open 183 days a year. When they go back in August/Sept and how late they finish in June determines what extra days off they can take take during the year. Some schools take a week in May and some take a week in June. And some don't take any week at all.

Do I support the usual 'type' that show up for these things? No, I don't.

Plus they ruin it for anyone who might have a legitimate reason to protest.

Career protestors with nothing better to do, I have no time for them.

UK are planing on sending hometests to school going families and testing their teachers every forthnight, whats our plan vis-a-vis testing staff and pupils??? Where I worked the plan seemed to vary depending on occ health/infection control. I would have been up for weekly staff testing from March 2020 now I'm vaccinated I'll just get tested when the department requests it my last test was last week. I've stopped counting but I guess its about my 8/9th test since May 2020...

It's definitely true, we will see rolling shut downs of schools in the coming weeks.

There needs to be a more rapid and strict approach to cases within a school or community. Either the entire class should be closed if there is a positive case within the class, or else or the entire school if there are multiple cases. Alternatively, open and close schools on a county by county bases for 3 weeks at a time.

Schools already being shut now so it looks like they aren't taking any chances this time.
