Hi all, buying Connemara 12 yr next week for my birthday, is it peatier than the regular Connemara? Love Connemara peated Whiskey. Thanks.

I tried them side by side recently enough, and as Cazale said, the peat seems slightly subtler, but I think it's just that it's more refined/rounded from the extra aging.

A whiskey society has started up here in Carlow, just received our first tasting set today. Walsh Whiskey was the logical choice so we've got the Copper Pot, Double Oak, Cask Strength and Mizunara Cask Finish to look forward to. Also got a really nice Writers Tears notepad and pen, badge and a few beer mats.

Not a bad one to start off with. Let us know what you think.

Not bad no but unfortunately for me I've tried them all before, albeit it was 2019 cask strength I had. I've half bottles of the Double Oak and Copper Pot on the go as well. Still it'll be interesting to hear Bernard Walsh who I believe is doing the talk.

Was in Dunnes & I saw Teachers Scotch, it said it is peaty, how true is that? would it be peatier than Connemara?

It has a definite peat or smokiness to it.
A quick google suggests it has about same ppm.

I enjoy a glass of it every now and then as a 'digestif' after a big meal.
Teachers, ice, lime wedge, 7up or ginger ale.
Tames a bit of its roughness but still has a bite to it.

But wouldnt be keen on it straight.

Finished off the miniature pack last night with the Redbreast 12. Drank the MVR Barry Crockett last Sunday, Powers John Lane on Tuesday, Green Spot on Friday and the RB12 last night then.

I'd rate them in order of preference, MVR BC, RB12, PJL and GS. Not sure what it was about thr green spot but I struggled to drink it, just did not taste nice to me at all. The John Lane was a little too peppery for me, it was good and id happily drink a gifted bottle but I wouldnt buy a bottle. Redbreast was just so easy to drink, I've had it a few times and I really enjoy it, could be a dangerous bottle to have on the shelf. The BC was excellent as I said in another post, still trying to convince myself to pull the trigger mind.

I'd have no hesitation buying that pack again though. Did someone else say the BC alone is €25 for that little bottle so 35 quid the lot is incredible value.

Yeah, DrinksHero are selling a 50ml bottle of the BC for €25.

You're not wrong about the RB12 mind you.

Spare bottle of it now sitting in the press ready to jump into action at a moment's notice when its brother is empty, which will be soon enough.

FFS, I will buy the Kilbeggan NAS! :D

Anyone any opinion on the RB27? Thinking of getting one - primarily to look at as I have to admit as I doubt I'd get the courage to drink much of it without crying at the cost :D

Why else would you buy it only to drink it? It's a core release so if you're thinking of it as an 'investment', forget about it.

Not thinking of it that way - what I mean is, I have a 2017 MVR that's open and for drinking, but every time I look at it I think that if I drink it, it'll eventually all be gone and I can't replace it. With the RB27 I'd be thinking, if i drink it and it's all gone it'll be too expensive to buy another. So i'll do what I do with a lot of the more pricey whiskey, i'll open it, drink a dram or 3 and then just consider drinking it :)

Quite new to whiskey drinking, got a bottle of Power for valentines so am making my way through that at the moment, liking it, and i think i prefer it over Jameson. I'm not very good at picking up the subtle notes or anything like that though.

Next on the list to get either Teeling or Sexton.

Welcome to the thread and whiskey. You'll be drinking single cask redbreasts before you know it.

Powers is a great one to have in the cabinet especially for an Irish coffee or just an easy mix as well.

Given the Sexton is Bushmills stock, you'd be well placed to pick up a bottle of Bushmills (White Label) or Black Bush, which are gateway drugs. Especially if they're on offer.

Someone else on here can recommend some Teeling for you.

Roe+Co gets a lot of love here as an easy sipper, so no harm in grabbing that either.

Watch this (dangerous) fúcker. He'll have you pining over Bunnabhainn, Lagavulin and Octomore in no time.

Power's John's Lane samples just arrived from CWS. Had a sneaky sniff. The cask strength smells like something I could really get into. (Now debating whether to add a drop of something warming to the morning coffee!).

Yep and Black Bush is €25-€26 in Tesco & O'Briens at the moment, I'd get that now rather than waiting for Sexton (rrp €40) to possibly come on offer.

Get out now - while you still can!... there are some very bad people in here.

Forgot about these. The missus text to say there is a parcel at home for me so I might have to do some sniffing later myself.

Keep an eye out for the Midleton Pot Still miniatures set.

It has 4 premium Irish whiskies:
    • 1 x 5cl Redbreast 12 Year Old
    • 1 x 5cl Green Spot SPS
    • 1 x 5cl Powers John's Lane 12 Year Old
    • 1 x 5cl Midleton Barry Crockett

Dunnes, O'Briens, some Supervalus and off licences stock it.
Dunnes is usually cheapest I think.
