It’s strange because I thought he worked with clerkin previously. Also I remember Ken quoting Ewan McKenna on various pods down the years he may even have been on the show talking about Bolsonaro but I might be dreaming that...I got the vibe that they were friends.

It speaks volumes on his scattergun approach. Everyone deserves a public hammering left, right and centre. Not Ewan himself though - we need to be careful and respectful with our choice of words in referring to Ewan because words are hurtful. Next thing we’ll have George Hook asking for respect in public discourse.

I would not be surprised at all if he reads this thread. I know another often criticized sports journalist does.

Good week so far, it was nice for me not to be skipping a rugby pod.

Caitlin Thompson and Eoin together is like apple strudel and cream.
There's an example of someone talking about a niche enough sport in an interesting way. She always draws me in and I think her and Eoin have a great chemistry, so much so I was mumbling to myself "shut up Murph, ye gooseberry!".

I don't think you're alone thinking that of Murph. It's like that friend when you're on the dating scene that can't get the hint when it's time to f off

Miguel? Or does Richie McCormack count as a sports journalist?

Lads any chance ye can refrain from posting Ewan's tweets? I don't follow him for a reason.

She's a terrific contributor and I think her slots reveal quite a few other contributors as being absolute wafflers.

    I like Murph

I think he's important to the show

I like him too. I wouldn't necessarily say he's "important" but I guess the dynamic on the show is overall better having 3 of them on it. His coverage and knowledge on GAA in fairness is brilliant. No real in depth tactical analysis but I do like his random GAA stories.

One thing I do find myself cringing at sometimes is the dialogue between Murph and Ken. Maybe I'm the only one who thinks this, but it always feels like Ken is super quick to put Murph down, correct him, or put an abrupt end to his points. Maybe they're good friends, but it comes across as little awkward between them at times.

Murph tries to be a smart ass alot correcting both Eoin and Ken and I'd say they don't hesitate when they get a chance to correct him

When they had the TV run Murph was excellent, remember a bit they done on a Ireland Soviet Union game from 1974 that was hilarious and the skills of hurling with John Mullane.

I think this is possibly Ken not wanting to get sidetracked on the point he's trying to make. Murph has a serious tendency to interrupt at just the wrong time.

That's just Ken taking the piss imho. For want of a better word, "bantz". Apologies for even using it. Mods, ban me.

He's harmless enough, but has this incredible ability to butt in just at the exact wrong moment, and these interruptions rarely enhance whatever was being discussed. Listened to start of todays football pod and he interrupted Ken to explain in detail what a fire log was for example. Just let Ken get on with it like.

I don't listen to or have any interest in Gah stuff so no opinion if he's knowledgeable on that

God no, on the TV run they created the quiz thing to give him something to do on the show, it was cringey

Murph lost out the most moving from TV to back radio - he's a handsome divil in all fairness!

Miguel Delaney unexpectedly invades the United Rewind podcast this week, unfortunate

This is what Murph reminds me of :pac:

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

I actually thought he was alright on that pod. Must have been the subject matter that clouded my judgement. Had forgotten just how good a game that was.

    Excellent podcast again today.
Tim Vickery has some great insight on Pele documentary & the politics of the country of the time.

The Ken sound-bed is top tier too.

I'm pretty sure Ken asked Murph what a firelog was...

She's fantastic. I couldn't care less about tennis 90% of the time, but I always find her appearances excellent.

She's so knowledgable and precise and can talk about the sport and its wider context with such authority - it never feels like she's overreaching when talking about the social and political aspects of sport - her observations always feel effortlessly bang on the money. And her sense of humour is excellently dry.
