Bloody irrate looking at the English plans for ending lockdown

    Why can't we have that?

Euros will be a strange affair. Full stadiums in UK, empty Aviva stadium here. :(

The entire competition will be in the uk, I'd bet money on it.

Hi all, first post in the COVID section for me, but I can't find many answers from whatever MM or Leo say...
MM said it will remain as it is for the next few months or so because "the coronavirus numbers are far too high" and Leo and Donnelly usually say the same.
    My questions are:
What number is too high? Hospitalizations? Deaths? Infections?
What is our objective? What number would be considered good?
Like, I would like to read the news and say "wow this is good news, only X number of Y"

Now it's all numbers and I don't know what to make of anything. I no longer know what number of anything is good other than zero. I would really like to know when I will be able to visit my mom without paying another fine.

That in bold has never been called out specifically. Our lockdown entry and exit strategy is based on "numbers are low" or "numbers are high". Its idiotic? yes. But then 2020 was year of idiots so hardly surprising.

As to avoiding fine for visiting your mom - surely just go into a bubble with her. I suppose she lives alone? And or deliver something to her thats essential like doing her shopping.

Thank you for the information... I was probably too naive thinking that I was just bad at retrieving that information from somewhere.

Hate talking politics specially in online forums but that's a really stupid or corrupt thing to do.

As to the fines.... yes... I'm just that stupid guy that gets caught for being honest to law enforcement.

Yeah, a sensible person will always assume 100% of the time that decisions that affect millions of people are made by looking at criteria for exact numbers to be met to make the decision or undo one.

unfortunately we succumbed to "I am very concerned" "today I find it concerning" rubbish from CMO and NPHET with 0 specifics.

I remember back in December they got really desperate and chose to ignore 7 day reducing daily average and instead were chatting this new 5 day rolling average that was trending slightly upwards.

They are still at it....myself and my wife play word bingo now with the public health announcements, is it a concerned day or alarmed or cautious or wreckless behaviour day or wary or worried or dropping our guard day or keep going or we are all in this together. We award maximum points for ' we are all in this together' which creates much hilarity as there is no comment that could be further from reality and the people saying it are all in secure jobs on huge salaries....

They use data to justify their decisions and do so selectively rather than making decisions based on data.

Game over, get the oldies vaccinated and open up.

This is spectacular data, in fact it's phenomenally good news.

Most disappointing aspect are the journalist at these "essential briefings". Like your job is to ask questions, tough questions, engage into a debate, highlight bad things and question them. What journalist do in NPHET briefings are ask questions such as "When do you think we will be allowed to see our family members outdoors?"

Its pathetic beyond belief. I personally will tell TV licence crowd that I dont have a TV and tell them to stop sending me TV licence letters. I wouldnt even pay 16 euros to support RTE let alone 160.

Imagine being so bad that you need actual law to ensure some revenue... RTE in 1 sentence lol.

You are so right.....the journos are utterly pathetic and have been since last March. One angle entirely in agreement with the government since day one and RTE well between Scaretime, George Doom Lee and the hysterical Claire Byrne show it is just Covid Porn day in day out.

I reckon there will be a few posters on this thread that will go very quiet now that the UK have shown a real concrete data driven answer for when will it all end. Starting to get hard to claim restrictions will last until next year.

Yeah I hear the Madagascar strain is particularly vicious.

Seriously though I had a chat here and we reckon it's time for him to role out ' an abundance of caution' comment....should buy him and NPHET some more time , abundance is a great word.

We are about five weeks behind the UK at the moment in terms of vaccine shots per capita, but that lag is increasing at the rate of one additional week every two weeks.

    Thanks for that.

Even allowing for a multiple of 14 to balance out the populations its 17.5 v 2.8 million.

    Still doesn't look great.......

It is so obvious honestly. Forget the names of these vaccines or where they are from, the best vaccine is the first one you take.

Will be interesting to see whether Holohan eats humble pie now and u-turns on his solo run decision to not use AZ on the over 70's or will he just ignore and hope we all forget.......

I read that paper today and it does not mention " efficiacy " in it once in older people for either. Why is it important if an older person is protected what rate they are going to pass on to other people. They are all locked in anyway, there is no one to transmit it to.

The only thing that matters is keeping old folk outta hospital and the data coming out of the UK today is phenomenal in that regard. A single jab of either the Pfizer or AZ vax is reducing hospital admissions hugely in the very elderly.

Cheer up folks this is the end and Boris is targeting 21st June for the end of all legal restrictions. With this type of data on vaccines he is being conservative, it could go much faster but I suppose he reckons he has to unwind a year of hysteria and fear.

Mehole please get the finger out.....

I think it will go much faster. Id say barbers etc. will open on 29th of March instead.

It will all be brought forward by 2 - 4 weeks or so. I mean its nonsense to keep restrictions once you have 60% + vaccinated and hospitals without any significant number of covid patients.

The announcement by Johnson that the UK will open up by June 21 with an end to even restrictions and mask wearing is the death knell for Mehole and Leo and Holohan and Glynn and McConkey.

I live outside Dublin and I was meeting a woman for a date in the Phoenix Park yesterday and the place was JAMMED. I said before that once the weather gets better and the sun comes out the restrictions will mean nothing.

As the UK reopens the shambles of the HSE vaccine roll out is being exposed and the lunacy of our lockdowns and restrictions.

A dam has well and truly burst.

The lockdownistas need to crawl back under whatever rock they emerged from.

Do you know how many people live within 5km of the Phoenix park?
Do you think they were all breaking restrictions 😂

It’s 340,000 as at Thursday, so comparing the UK current figure to our figure from 3 weeks ago without adjusting for population could be a little misleading.

Imagine our lot doing what the UK did today, would never happen

They have to get the finger out now
