Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    REM's Life's Rich Pageant.

Still think it's the weakest of the IRS albums.

Would love to have seen them on that tour. The concert film is amazing.

    Yeah, that would've been great.

I have seen them twice in Dublin, on the SOTU & Delta machine tours.
    Both very enjoyable.

Highlight was Martin Gore doing an acoustic version of an old B-side, "But Not Tonight". The crowd was well impressed.

    I remember it, 1993

The Chart Show - Rock The Nation CDs from 1988 & 1989 are great

Taking The Long Way by the Dixie Chicks.

I love country music, but I love rock more. A really good fusion of styles going on in that album.

I must have been living under a rock in 2003, but the scandal surrounding their comments on George Bush and the war in Iraq never reached my consciousness. They lost their following overnight, were abandoned by the entire country music community, country stations wouldn't play their music, punished staff members who did, organised collections of their CDs for destruction, and the band received death threats. Absolutely wild stuff!

They've never regained their popularity, and even though Taking The Long Way swept the Grammy awards 4 years later, the music was still ignored by country stations. It probably explains the change in musical style on that album. They said they couldn't identify with country music after the scandal, as it was all chest pumping USA patriotism.

Knowing the backdrop to this album has made me respect them even more and enjoy the album a lot. The lyrics to "Not Ready to Make Nice" are powerful. They never backed down on their stance.

Ah yes...fond memories of that album. Loved it. September 2001- Tom Dunne had this on every night. Unfortunately that was as good as it got for The Strokes IMO.

Saw them at Oxygen in 2004- too cool for school.

My one and only Oxygen - The Strokes and The Cure ended the night. 15 years to the day that the latter played the RDS.

Yeah I was there for the both days. I was right up against the stage for The Strokes as I was really into the Kings of Leon at the time who were on before them but they were not well known so no problem getting into the mosh pit and staying before the crowds descended for The Strokes.

Unfortunately the first two albums were as good as it got for the KOL before they turned into a boy band.

I was too wreacked to stay for all the of the Cure.

Never forgiven David Bowie for getting a heart attack and not turning up.

Yep, such a shame. They had the potential to be a really great rock band.

Got this album on vinyl on Monday. I had the CD but lost it some years back and just had the case which was so frustrating. Adding to the frustration it seems to be unusually difficult to find a digital copy of it for some reason.

Really enjoyable listening back, not everyone's cuppa tea by any stretch but I just love Mike Paradinas's quirky style of music, nobody marries harsh distorted percussion with beautiful, whimsical melodies as good as this guy.

Bought a few crates of wax off my buddy who is downsizing and moving to the sticks.
This was one that I knew I'd like so played it through last night before bed.

Check out Bogdan Raczynski and Chris Clark for other juxtaposition of harshness and melody. If you haven't already.

Yeah I'm a big fan of Bodgan, have been for years and was even lucky enough to catch an Aphex Twin gig in Temple bar years agao where he was supporting along with Ovuca. My dream gig!

Chris Clark I'm aware of but haven't really explored, I will do so now. Thanks!

I heard their name mentioned on the wireless the other day and started reminiscing of a gig I went to probably about 10 years ago in the pod (or one of the venue rooms in that complex).
I would be of a different generation to most 10cc fans and was actually surprised that they were still performing back then. Was a good gig and at least there was nobody shooting and rubber bullets at it :D

Graham Gouldman, the only remaining original member, has kept the 10cc name going.
