Same, but all my grandparents are dead so I'll need to be called something other than granny killer.

Mine too. I’m sure there’s some other guilt trip they’ll find for us.

Imagine how shocked they'll be when they discover there are parts of Spain where restaurants/bars are not permitted to open at all.

    Covid nonsense.

Cool. I don't know many people familiar enough with Spanish law to be able to make that sort of prediction, must be a very useful skill.

Did it take you long to go through all of the individual cases? Are there many? Are you just completely guessing?

Well I just think flicking through news sites of courts ruling in Spain that bars/restaurants etc in different regions can open would suggest thats the case.

Give a try there Graham if its not too hard for you.

Have family already there in hospitality. To pretend it's business as usual is complete and utter BS.

considering they're closer to it already than us i don't see why we'd suddenly overtake them getting back to normality

That's 1st dose only. At the moment only 0.79% of the UK population has gotten both doses, versus 1.82% here

Just as well it wasn’t claimed to be business as usual.

    Inaccurate and oversimplified.

Many areas in Spain have curfews on top of restrictions on movement, retail, hospitality etc etc etc.

That a completely meaningless stat considering how few jabs we’ve given. The UK are miles ahead on first doses, which still gives better protection than no doses into anyone’s arm.

If anything that worries me, I'd trust the UK to handle logistical planning a lot better than our shower, if they think the best approach is to rattle through first doses before giving the second it makes me think our approach is woefully inefficient in the long run.

    Important part

On when restrictions should be lifted, 59% of people said that the Government should wait until daily Covid-19 cases drop to below 20 per day

20 cases a day is almost as impossible as zero covid

The "fully vaccinated" figure is, I'm afraid, highly misleading as it does not take into account the total number of doses administered, which is about four times higher in the UK compared to Ireland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,517 ✭✭✭RobitTV

Below 20 cases per day. I think we should set a target of around 2030 for reopening :o

Isn't going to happen with the UK strain making up the great majority of new cases. We need to be realistic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,977 ✭✭✭TheDoctor

20 cases a day.... we're never ever going to see 20 cases a day in Ireland unless we never ever open again.

We had less than that in June and July last year.

Are 59% of the people retarded? You'd get 20 cases a day from false positives alone.

We had less than that in June and July last year.

After been closed for 4 months, including schools shut all that time.

Also with a lower number of tests being done than today, and with the lower less transmissible original variant of the virus.

..... we got down to below 20 cases a day

We won’t see that number again in Ireland

Who on earth are these people they are asking? How do they find them, is this poll on street or phone polls or what?

I thought I heard it was turning from people here on boards? What happened?

Maybe the anecdotes from this place isn't reflective of public opinion after all.

We locked down in March and reopened end of June, so 3 and a bit months.

    It's a perfectly accurate figure.

I never suggested we had more first doses than the UK.

Also I'm pretty sure the goal is not to half vaccinate people, it's to fully vaccinate.

So it is a pertinent statistic and as end goals go, it will become more so.
