Take leave if necessary for that short period of time seems to be the advice from unions

In reality it will probably not be approved as the needs of the school come first.
If it’s not approved you can apply for the PUP.
Which I doubt will go down well with the principal.

"If you left work to care for a child because of school or childcare closures and your employer is no longer paying you, you can apply for PUP".

If the schools are open surely the above doesn't apply?

If Putting the needs of one’s child ahead of the needs of one’s workplace got a questionable response from the person in charge (not the owner) of said workplace it would raise a lot of questions about the person in charge.

“Any employees affected by the lack of childcare are strongly encouraged to engage with their employer in the first instance with a view to exploring all options available to enable them to return to, or continue with, work where possible.

Some of the options to be considered for workers with caring responsibilities that preclude them from working their normal hours or patterns include allowing employees to work from home, altering shifts or allowing employees to rearrange holidays or parental leave.

Where a person in these circumstances is not able to avail of leave or benefit and as a result of the latest public health measures no longer have childcare, they are now eligible to apply for PUP.”

The reality is schools are short staffed with no subs available in Dublin.

I think most schools will do everything they can to approve the leave
Lack of subs could be an issue
Again I’ve said it many times and I’m not even joking . There are many many qualified ye areas doing nothing with the inspectorate. They should be made available immediately as subs to schools in their local areas . It should have happened in August

If you are a teacher who is going in teach before your own kids are back it does apply.

Is it for teachers only though? Like, if I can't go to work reasonably due to childcare issues and my employer won't approve parental/annual leave or I've used all of my leave up, can I just apply for PUP?

I didn't realise this, is it a new thing?

Very important that a small Home Counties village is informed when Irish schools are reopening:confused:

    It’s for everyone.
It only came in in January I think.
You apply under “self declaration” apparently. Make sure you have it in writing re leave getting turned down.

So true Norma went on about providing 1000 teachers in Sept but the realitiy was it was about 1 n bit teacher per secondary school and subs in primary covering multiple schools. We have 3 subs covering 16 schools all with about 50 teachers minimum.

That moment when the returning inspector realises that although an 'expert' they've never actually taught the 1999 curriculum!!!

save the trouble and jazz it up

Wondering how the LC will work out now. The "mixed" choice seems nice, but also too good to be true... so I can just focus on the stuff im weak at and then get an average of H4's and above and get 500+ points?

I hope they really let us know how this will work out, as for practical's being "apart" of the LC, what will I do for a practical that hasn't taken place yet, how would I get graded on that hahah.

Well, in due time whatever happens happens... I'm kind of ok going back, but I'm also not? I mean if it's mainly PG at this point, surely we can still be online for another 2 weeks or so... I mean I'm not overly comfortable with the numbers currently and I really don't want 80+ contacts. But also I want a normal-ish life again... what to do. :pac:

Hope this isn't true. 6th yrs getting fairly annoyed at not knowing what theyre preparing for.

    It's cruel at this stage

Setting the narrative for union intransigence and the blame game. Can't see the ASTI accepting some Pauline conversion on PG/CG as the default.

Looks like someone spoke to them with information who shouldn't have or they're making it up. Either is possible.

The article is still up on indo, anywhere else seems to quote indo as the source.

I was briefly reading the info re back to school. I am back on the 22nd February. Apparently I am just to wear a mask....no gloves or plastic apron.
Students don’t need to wear masks but I think a few in my school will.
