Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Italy are awful

Maybe...but I thought last week they looked a bit more threatening with the ball, and actually they looked even better this week.

But they are as loose as anything in defence

So you can hurdle a tackle as long as it's not dangerous?
    Right.

This debate was had in the 2017 Lions with Kieran Read.

One mans vault is another mans dive for the line, or otherwise becomes a tackle in the air.

There is no law against jumping out of a tackle. If May boots the winger in the face as a result there, and the winger spits a few teeth or breaks his nose, then the ref can only penalise May under unsportsmanlike conduct, which as we know is a crock of shyt at the best of times.

No ref was going to deny May that score if there was no damage done to the Italian defender engaged in a hail mary slide, and there wasn't. End of story.

How does Farrell get away with the way he talks to the referees?

I think the point he was making was fair...but he was too animated about it...he is lucky he wasn't marched back another 10.

They do it every single time

Yeah it’s just worse that it’s what led to the English 3rd try.

It looks as though the English TV company doing the coverage are showing no replays of anything controversial that the ref is missing.

    Right.

Shane Williams made a career of it.

    You can't do anything dangerous.

    May didn't

Seems a very flimsy interpretation...if there wasn't a tackle coming in he wouldn't have been jumping to stay in play.

I think the point is, if this happened in regular play it would 100% be a penalty, but your allowed to dive for the line (which is was as his hands landed first - like a dive into a pool)

That's inconsistent with how laws are applied for
other dangerouss play... Tip tackle landing on head doesn't need to cause damage to be penalised as what it is: dangerous play. Same thing here imo.

9.27: Contrary to sportsmanship. Preventing an attempt to tackle would constitute this.

9.11: Dangerous play could also cover it.

Sidestepping is preventing an attempt to tackle. Should we penalise them too?

Whatever about the rest of their team, Garbisi looks like he is going to be seriously good. He will likely end up in the Top 14 soon enough

Edit - errrrrr I completely scudded him

Why does an Italian player have 24 on his back?

England are so lucky they got Italy this week.

Trying to play Devil’s Advocate here (and I’m not sure either way) but just because it doesn’t result in dangerous play doesn’t mean it isn’t dangerous play.

    They had England reeling.

Farrell up to his old tricks. On review its harmless enough

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,328 ✭✭✭theVersatile

No arms hit on Varney in the build up.

Edit: looked worse on the wide angle, though Sinkler went for the scumbag shot. Pen only?

Love to see this pulled back especially as it’s Farrell.

    Joy has finally woken up.

An inconsistent rugby law application. I'm shocked I tells ya!

At best the refs supervisors will consider it during the week and might issue a missive, but I doubt it.

The difference is that the man in the air can't be touched as the tackler gives away a penalty. So they are preventing a fair contest. There is also the fact that it is possibly dangerous play.

Not a lot in that but it is a late hit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,647 ✭✭✭beggars_bush

    Absolute joke
He had two eyes on him then a no arm tackle

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,357 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

Farrell was committed, nothing in it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,921 ✭✭✭KH25

He seemed to only care about whether there was contact with the head rather than it being late with no arms.

    Brilliant turnover from Lawes.

Edit: wait not that good afterall...he had his hands on the deck!

I think that's just about OK...borderline, but I'd go with the officials on that one.

    That was weird.

They were so focused on the height of the tackle that they seem to have ignored that it was still a late hit.

    Maybe you should.

That was just the italian begging a penalty cos his teams defence were mugged. Waste of everyone's time reviewing that.

Absolute bottle job by the ref/TMO. As per usual with farrell and England. Would make you sick
