Good bit on it but you can see where’s it drifting in the wind. Fog down so can’t see the top.

I have climbed the reek a few times after moderate snow events. The snow does tend to blow off the exposed paths/rocks but where it drifts you can be in 1-2 feet of snow easily. Great fun actually.

Curious, are the Gardai stopping people going out to Murrisk?

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

No matter what the weather will be next week, I've
saved a bit of yesterday's snow for a rainy day. :o

I used to do that as a child and a teenager. I started in 1987 and managed to build a 12 foot high mound which lasted at least a week after the general snow had melted. I tried to build a snow mountain in February 1991 and it got to impressive heights and lasted a while after the snow thawed but from I remember the thaw so fairly rapid after the cold spell ended so my mountain did not last several weeks which I hoped for.

If I don't get any snow tonight/tomorrow then Kermit better have a great disguise because if I track him down I'm going to find a use for all the road salt I ended up not needing!!

I wonder if the higher than expected amount of snow that Mayo received is an omen for something else that hasn`t happened in a long long time. Could Sam finally be making his way there this year?

    Let's not get carried away!

How will we know in the SW when it hits us given we have now had 30+ hours of constant precipitation and gales?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,033 ✭✭✭Snowbie

Not as cold today temp wise compared to yesterday but dewpoints are still subzero. Air at 4.4C but added winchill still there.

Done a video forecast if anyone is interested on tonights snowfall

The precipitation and gales will get worse.

There's something falling from the sky in naas, not really graupel, not snow, not rain, its like ice (no rain mix so not sleet).

Car temp gage is reading 6degrees.

    Confused.

Yesterday's snow didn't melt here. It literally disappeared. Place dry as a bone and no snow melt recorded in my rain gauge. Last time this happened was in the aftermath of Emma.

ECM 6z showing where most of the snow is likely to occur over the next 24hrs. NW, N and E always the more favoured:

Bring on the sneachta for Dublin tonight. Even if snowballs can only be flung until afternoon before the milder weather arrives

HARMONIE killing the precip in Dublin Airport area so lighter precip = more likely sleet or rain.

But will HARMONIE be right? or is it overplaying the rain/precip shadow effect? Only time will tell.

Well we got to build a snowman at last, he's 5'10" so a hat will be needed.

Measured the snow on the driveway, probably not accurate but a good indication of what fell. It's too windy here to send the drone up, hopefully later and I'll get some high altitude pics of the land around us.

Located just east of Newport, Mayo.

6th attempt, hopefully photos upload this time.

I think we will get snow, models consistently inaccurate. Met Éireann and my app both going for snow overnight into tomorrow morning

Back in January 2013 we had a small thunderstorm that dropped the biggest hail i seen before or since.
I put a dish of them in the freezer and forgot about them until a few weeks later.
I still have no idea why i put them in it :o
