Going to the US to meet the new US president, establish relations and talk about things that could benefit us here is part of MM's job. It's not a holiday, so how is him doing his job or any of us leaving our 5km to do our jobs or take essential journey's giving two fingers to anyone else let alone everyone else in the country.
I don't even like the man or the party but I will say that.
That said, I don't think this is the thread for this conversation having nothing to do with schools.

seems we're just winding down for midterm here now, most of my classes last about 10 minutes or, they're just straight up cancelled. Irish and Business were cancelled today because eh, it's close enough to midterm.

I am tired though, I am looking forward to sleeping more... :D

In other news I see MM looking to be vaccinated so he can head to the states for St Patrick's Day.

I certainly hope that trip does not go ahead and if this happens then as if we didn't need any more evidence as to how out of touch our politicians are.

Lead by example and all that! He said he's going if he's invited, two fingers to everyone in the country.

    100% disagree.

he is the leader of the country (like or loathe him) and if he were to turn down a chance to get the ear of arguably the most important leader in the world it would be a mistake...

I would urge you to be proactive here and study as much as you can by yourself if the standard if teaching is poor. It's all well and good having a handy time of it in school due to a teacher being lazy but at the end of the day they won't be the ones coming away with a 300 point leaving cert in the summer.

I'd urge you not to worry a student by using that type of language. Our school have asked teachers to issue no work over midterm unless essential for exam classes as parents and students are reporting stress and burnout. Students need a break. They can't stay in a heightened state of stress all the time. And your language around a 300 point leaving cert is frankly disappointing.

History Queen I think Biggjim is trying to wind up everybody on this thread with his posts. I think his comments are best ignored.

Penny I have not seen any parents on here complain about their children. I dont enjoy having to homeschool my children, do my job as an accountant and look after a 3 year old ( all at the same time). We manage it all though and fall into bed exhausted at the end of a long day. I do enjoy my time with my kids. At the weekends we enjoy all the fun stuff but Monday to Friday are stressed. And yes someone who doesnt have kids or isnt a teacher has no business commenting on the situation.

I had a good chuckle at this comment. Visions of you bouncing two 30 somethings on your knee! How are you finding homeschooling your 2 secondary school teachers while doing your job at the same time. I dont think you can compare being a parent of 2 secondary teachers to parenting primary and secondary school kids.

Agree! I have to admit when I hear of parents going on about how they all doing great, kids loving learning at home & all happy as larry & playing boardgames all night I am caught between feeling jealous & as a defense am like 'yeh right' can't be true because if its true we must be doing a terrible job!!

And never mind parents with grown up kids always look back with rose tinted glasses on the 'wonderful childhood' they gave their kids & enjoying every precious minute (My own mother does this & I say what about the rows, the door slamming, the shouting - did you enjoy those 'precious' minutes?!!)
Precious minutes are that - precious, rare. So when you with your family 24x7 then well too much of a good thing & all that ;)

You are not alone. Exact same yesterday and today in the school my kids (3rd and 6th year) attend and tomorrow is a wellbeing day. It is a well being day in their cousins' school too. Maybe wellbeing is what the students need or maybe they should be having a proper day of learning. I'm at a loss to know what's right at this stage.

At this stage, whichever is less stressful is the right call. I know myself that the foot is being eased off today. Everyone needs it.

Normal school day for both mine here. Primary kid all worked up and ready for his quiz tomorrow via zoom. They have been having great craic on Fridays with their teacher.

There is plenty of support for this perspective. There are people calling for restrictions for the next 3-5 years. I suppose you get the politicians you deserve.

BiggJim is many things but even he is not claiming to be a teacher. He is enjoying his time on Boards since he registered yesterday. He is an interesting distraction from the norm around here.

The opposition politicians are all trying to get their own angle so that they stand apart from the others.

Thanks History Queen! I hope you enjoy the week off too, well deserved for us both :D

Nah, with Online school, classes have been reduced because a full blown day staring at a computer screen would probably kill me and my motivation. 5 classes a day tops, so about a 3 1/2 school day total now.

Depends on the teacher for me, quality of teaching is perfectly fine, although I do find it hard to study in my room but I don't have a choice. I am doing very good in my homework assignments though, (93/100 in a history essay, 48/50 in English, etc) I will try do more work, but I think students and teachers just want a break after 7 weeks on the online poorer quality grind. Now that mocks are postponed, we can just go at a bit of a slower pace... ;)

No, I am talking to a small subset of teachers here. It's my view that they share their views here, because they are not shared by teachers in real life and thus they have nowhere else to share them.

Aside from that, my biggest problem is the sway that unions have in the decision making process.

    Totally agree .

Sadly no well-being days for my school, just on the grind everyday.

I never compared beign a parent of two secondary teachers to parenting primary and secondary school children either.
Your children shouldn't cause you stress.... if that's the case it's you has the problem ...
You aren't a teacher yet you have commented...and as regards people who have no kids commenting on a situation....I take it if you went with your child to a
paediatrician would you not take their advice if they didn't have kids?

Penny I did read your post and I found it very insulting to parents. My children do not cause me stress - homeschooling while doing my job from home is causing me stress. Its the situation that is stressful not my children. I have primary school children and thats why I replied to your comment. You dont have primary or secondary children so really you cant comment on what parenting is like in this pandemic. Of course I would listen to a paediatrician because they are a professional doing their job - dont know what you mean by this comment.
