    What are you thinking?

Its more contagious or people are meeting up too much?

    UK variant spreading faster apparently.

On a positive note, there are a lot less cases of community transmission.

Okay you may be right have been digging around to find my road map for reopening, family had it posted up in kitchen like a calendar. So when lockdown happened last March then there were no levels given?

Nope. As already stated the various levels were not announced until last September.

    It was always gonna fail

AZ have been full of **** since the start, might as well have injected holy water if you come across a e484k variant like SA.

Pfizer was a compliance vaccine, its -70c storage etc was never meant for mass vaccination, they made no secret of that

Moderna are small time, a start up company

Rest are still doing up paperwork

No one trusts the Russians or Chinese

Don't know your credentials, but the AZ was initially the Oxford vaccine, which was good for the UK because of the name. Rule Brittania and all that.

I will put my arm out for anything now though. Can only help somehow.

I agree with most of your timelines in this post except for what I bolded. IMO there will be no concerts or mass gatherings or open nightclubs in this country until sometime in 2022.

But the timelines you are in agreement with are with a vaccine timeline about 2 months advanced.

The over 70s will only be done by mid May

What happened to over 70s being done by the end of March?

The decision not to give Astra Zenica to the elderly has put that target way out of reach.

Forget the all island approach because the Republic is so far behind it will never catch up. They’ll be getting booster jabs against variants before we’ve finished vaccinating people against the wuhan strain.

I really wouldn't like to guess at vaccination timelines at the moment.

Obviously supply is the limiting factor now but don't forget there are other vaccines in the pipeline. One, two, three of them get approval and we could see a really significant increase in the vaccine rollout.

They may as well just roll out the red carpet to the nearest fcuking bridge so we can all throw ourselves off. What is the actual point in life if the very things that make it worth living are all taken away. Nothing to look forward to. Absolutely nothing only more restrictions and another long stretch of absolute nothingness. Add to that that the UK will likely have the whole nation vaccinated by the time we’re only getting around to the over 70’s (June!!!!) I honestly cannot take any more of this or of Monty Burns Martin and his “conservative” “cautious” arse whackery

Go back further to October. It was a huge mistake to lockdown the country so close to Christmas. All it did was congest more people into restaurants, shops, etc is a much shorter time period. Even before that lockdown was lifted they were talking about locking down again straight after Christmas. Psychologically that was a huge error by the government. What exactly did they think was going to happen.

The worst part about that was they basically said they were doing it so people could go ham at Christmas and then lockdown again in January. Great plan that.

Wouldn't it also mean another group will be receiving the AZ vaccine earlier than anticipated?

Is it a case of the rest of the world sitting back and watching how the UK fairs out with it on the old folk ?

I know how you're feeling girl. I'm having those thoughts today.
I've done everything I'm supposed to do and even took my own extra precautions when we were told we could relax a bit. I have kept my side of the bargain.
BUT fluck me, facing into a second summer of being a leper to my friends and extended family. Just one endless groundhog day. No where to go to spend the money I've earned in my adapted work environment, to even enjoy a bloody haircut.
There are several babies of my friends and family that I have never met yet. There are friends I haven't seen in over a year now. Missed birthdays, cancelled sun holiday so desperately earned.
I can't take much more of this absolute sh*tshow.

Stay away from bridges. Wrap them in their red carpet and roll them down a hill.

Think they're finishing off the rest of the healthcare workers and moving onto Fire service and guards and keeping the Pfizer for old people.

i have posted on the other page what i think could be a very strong tactic to put manners on a lot of media , politicans etc if they act the maggot with crazy restriction when very little risk. call them out , the public has this power. irish people will not protest or any of that thuggery but we will call some one out and need to.
at the minute theres not a lot we can do and we do need to keep safe til we get our loved ones who are vulnerable vaxxed. BUT we all know the risk of under 60s is tiny and when there the cohort left to vaxx then time to start to rise up if there still messing about on level 3 or 4. But definitly target the media for scaremongering and do it now.

Yeah, there's apparently 190k az vaccines arriving in Feb, that's gonna make a nice dent in groups 4 and 6

Do all the things that you can do. And motivate all your family and friends to bring about sensible change. Demand assurance from the authorities that when the vulnerable are vaccinated we go back to normal. Nothing less!

It's ridiculous. They should have maintained the lockdown over Christmas and the cold months when the virus is most likely to spread. We could have been opening up in a month or two with level 3 or possibly even 2 restrictions if the government hadn't been so gung ho about reopening.

The problem is the vaccines keep getting pushed back. I was delighted when I heard the over 70s would be done by March. That was the line in the sand for me cos I wouldn't have to worry about my parents. Now they are saying June and does anyone believe they can even do that?

That's the language of a trodden person. You are not a thug for demanding that things be done right. Don't let them make you think that you are a thug.

Regards concerts with us often grouped with the UK in terms of touring we could see Ireland been removed but the UK dates been performed especially with the speed of their vaccine programme

That's not what they're saying currently

Looks like they'll be holding off on large gatherings for the foreseeable due to AZ and variants

Hopefully Belfast will be an option if there's nothing happening down here.

There was an interesting parliamentary TV discussion the other day with UK promoters/tour msnagers/councillors etc. They are all expecting this summer to be like last, socially distanced outdoor gigs, moving towards academy sized shows later on. None of them seem confident of large scale touring productions this side of 2022.

Yes well this needs to change. A lesson we should be learning now is that passivity isn't working. There's nothing intrinsically passive about Irish people.

Politicians are bureaucratic managers by nature - their instinct is to keep managing the situation, and personal freedom and the financial survival of distant people don't figure at all in their calculus. If they think no one objects they will just go on micro-managing test numbers indefinitely - levels, restrictions, penalties, whatever.
