I'm the same on the Spotlight issue. All the 'Brand Ambassadors ' (some of whom have previously swore they only bothered with Crest strips) just turns me right off the brand. I'm not going to be paying for their endorsements.
For whats its worth my friend has a toothbrush from a brand called Fairywiil or fairyfield (something fairy in the title anyway) she got it on Amazon and its IDENTICAL to Spotlight one in charging, settings etc

oh thanks for that info - I just looked these up on Amazon there and they look good - only ~20 sterling as well. I think I may take a punt at that price !!

I just want ye to know though I personally don't have either of them, so I can't recommend either way but it came up in conversation among us about how annoying all the supposed Brand Ambassadors for Spotlight (and Sweet King and OMG and bperfect) are. I find it's just made me realise the reviews of those instagrammers are so untrustworthy.
Thats how we got to talking about it but she says she finds that fairy one from Amazon is the business and from what she could see there was absolutely no difference. I don't have either I just have an Oral b one from boots that I find grand so I'm not going to buy a new one just for the sake of it. Hope ye like it tho if ye get it. At least its not a big price point.

^^^ 100% agree. I will never buy Spotlight because i can't trust reviews are honest.
They had Brian Dowling advertising for them about a month after he got veneers (or implants or something like that). No toothpaste in the world will whiten natural teeth to the level of cosmetic dentistry.

I got the Glossier You perfume for Christmas and it's absolutely gorgeous. Very soft and subtle, a little bit of that fresh linen/laundry/baby powder type smell, with a little bit of leather to balance any sweetness.

My local chemist was clearing out perfumes and I bought Prada Candy night blindly as it was wrapped in plastic but 45 euro down from 85.
Not a scent I would normally choose for myself as its quite heavy at first but the dry down is lovely.

It's become my favourite perfume in the last year! It reminds me of Philosophy Pure Grace but lasts longer. I bought the hand cream as it's meant to be the same scent but it's barely noticeable, would not recommend.

Good to know! I do love the scent so I definitely could have been swayed into the hand cream on my next order!

I got a sample of their shower oil and it's really gorgeous. I've been a really dedicated soap user for around 2 years now for many reasons, but that oil is calling my name...

I’m having a really bad flare up of rosacea on my face at the moment. I won’t even describe it because it’s horrible looking and my self confidence is pretty much through the floor. I can’t bear to leave the house and have anyone see me, very grateful for mandatory masks

I got a referral letter for a dermatologist from my GP that I can pass to a dermatologist of my choosing. Would anyone have any dermatologist recommendations? I’m Dublin based.

Also in the mean time if anyone has any recommendations for products that might help that I can buy without a prescription I’d really appreciate it. My normal skincare routine is just aggravating it so I’m just washing my face with water in the morning and using a Cereve wash at night and then using my prescription face cream.

I have rosacea too. Id be interested in what your dermatologist says to you about it.

Oats soaked in warm water and gently rubbed onto the skin really helps to sooth the rosacea. Thanks! I’ll give the oats a go tonight.

I've been going to Prof Catriona Ryan for the last few years, I've got psoriasis and eczema combined with some random allergies. I find her really good, she does a full mole check for me and really helped me get on top of my skin when it was at its worst.

My sister in law saw a dermatologist for hers - but she is based out west.
She since swears by La Roche Posay products (when she is not having a bad flare up).

I was getting dry skin problems from being stuck indoors all day with the heating on. I was being relatively good compared with last year, so I splashed on Environ alpha hydroxy night cream while it was on sale. One week in and it's definitely helping.

I haven’t gotten an appointment yet but my flare up has really improve this week. Flare up lasted from just before Christmas so the guts of a month. It was red, hot and burning, broken flaking skin, dry and tight feeling. Skin texture was very rough and itchy. It was mainly on my cheeks and beside my nose, on my chin and along my jaw on one side, behind my ears, across the top half of my forehead and above one eyebrow. I always have redness in my skin and broken blood vessels in my cheeks and this hasn’t changed but the texture is gone from my cheeks now and dryness and flakiness has almost gone from everywhere (except above my eyebrow).

I think the flare up was from stress and the exacerbated by a walk I did in very cold and windy weather. My

What I did was:
- Stopped basically all my usual skincare. No more acids or serums anything with strong active ingredients. Started washing my face with just water in the morning and using cereve smoothing cleanser in the evening.
- Stopped using my glycolic acid (pixi glow tonic) entirely. Normally this is my holy grail product but it was really aggravating everything.
- Used Soolantra all over (prescription) while my skin was wet and then moisturised with Embryolisse lait creme concentrate afterwards. This is perfumed which supposedly is bad for rosacea but I didn’t find it irritating, quite soothing actually.
- Exfoliated gently with a warm damp face cloth rather than a chemical acid or microabrasive scrub. This was just to get rid of the flakiness really to try to prevent myself scratching and touching my face constantly.
- Avoided make up since start of January to try give my skin a break.
- Used Avene eau thermale mist to refresh my skin during the day. It’s really cooling and soothing and gave me a lot of relief from the heat and itch.
- Zinc/physical barrier based suncream every day.

Going forward I’m going to stick with all this routine and have also purchased some Face Theory products to try. You can choose if they are scented or or scented which is handy! I’ve been reading some very good reviews of improvement in Rosacea (not just for flare ups, but for general redness and flushing) of consistent use of Azelaic acid and the Face Theory one is a decent percentage and a good price. The Ordinary one is also supposed to be good but it’s sold out everywhere. Azelaic acid is gentler than glycolic and retinols but very effective. Have also seen good reviews for using Niacinimide to help Rosacea so maybe I’ll look at that going forward. I’m going to add the Azelaic acid in every 3 nights from this week.

I think now that I’m seeing improvements I just need to be consistent and careful.

Once I get a derm appointment I’m happy to change all of this based on their advices but with lockdowns and patient services limited I needed to make some changes now to get some relief.

Im amazed you can use Glycolic acid & microdermabrasive scrubs on your skin, if either went near my face id have a flareup for a month.
I will keep an eye out for the Azelaic acid.

I was recommended Soolantra but my doctor wouldnt prescribe it, she didnt know what it was, she gave me Rozex instead but its usless, do you find the Soolantra much good?

I’ve tried Rozex and got absolutely nowhere. Soolantra was prescribed by a Locum, my own GP never suggested it. It’s good but it needs about 8-12 weeks of consistent use to really see results and the first few weeks can be disheartening as it looks like it gets worse before it improves. And my skin goes back once I stop using it. It’s also very expensive I find, €50+ for a very small tube. The generic name is ivermectin which I’ve read is cheaper and very effective but again requires a prescription. I don’t know if it’s any use to you but I have Laya health insurance and on their app I just realised you can request prescriptions for Rosacea issues which I thought was useful. It’s not really your fault that your GP doesn’t know/understand soolantra so if I were you I’d be seeking a second opinion for the prescription.

Ivermectin is also an active ingredient in other over the counter creams and I think it’s in sulphur creams too? Lots of American sites recommend using a ‘horse paste’ which I thought was just a colloquial name for a face cream but no, it’s an actual paste for horses that they dilute and put on their faces

Think ill give the Soolantra a miss, my skin will have cleared up by the time it starts to work by the sounds of it and not worth it if it gets worse before it gets better. My doctor suggested antibiotics but I heard over the long run they can make rosacea worse.

Horse paste? thats a new one! Ive heard of people using horse shampoo but never horse paste, Anything that works lol.

TK Maxx do really brilliant ones that come in packs of two for maybe a tenner or less. Really absorbant and still grand after a million washes.

Not much use at the moment though! Unless TK Maxx do online shopping?

Well worth the investment. I bought mine a few weeks ago now and can highly recommend. My hair is thinning and I was experiencing a lot of hair loss / breakage on hair washing days. It is very comfortable and I see such a difference when brushing my hair out. No tangles and much less hair loss. I bought mine from beauty expert for approx €20.

I did - got the item after about a month or so and all was fine in the end. I checked reviews after ordering and got a fright too!!

I wouldnt order again as there are plently of places thst will get the items to me quicker. But the main thing is i did get thdm i suppose

Yes id also be reluctant to order again, even if the items do arrive. Read some of the companies replies to the negative reviews and theyre so defensive & unprofessional in their response. Also saw reviews that said the products they received where counterfeit.
Just hoping I can cancel the order & get my money back.

Yes, their replies are so aggressive! It was this more than the bad reviews that made me concerned.
I would normally check reviews before buying from somewhere new but their website looks legit and im normally very cautious & vigilant when it comes to purchasing online.
Lesson learned!

Got a few bits over Christmas....

Ella & Jo serum and hyaluronic acid. I actually really like them. I dunno how many times I've nearly dropped the glass serum bottle on the tiled bathroom floor, I'll cry if I do, it's not cheap! It's frosted glass so I can't see how much I've gone through yet. It's not sticky like some other hyaluronic acids. Quite like the spray also.

Few Aimee Connolly Sculpted bits.
Got the liquid concealer and I have to say it's up there up my holy grail from Catrice! Less coverage than the catrice one but more brightening. Not too thick and blends well. Will be repurchasing.
Her beauty base - it's nice but I got the pearl one and I wouldn't wear it on it's own, it would need a base over it.
Second skin foundation - love this. Perfect day time foundation. I got the matte one and it's not flat matte and with the beauty base there's a little glow but not shiny. I think the shade (fair plus) is a tad pale on me but looks fine once I've done the rest of my makeup.
Also got her Hydrate and hold spray. It says it's a hydrating setting spray but I find it's very wet for that. It's grand for a spritz during the day and has a lovely citrussy scent.

I'm only putting make up on once a week now when I'm going to do the grocery shopping. I find I'm reaching for the same products most of the time. Think I'll do a big declutter of my makeup.

I've been using Nak shampoo and conditioner for ages and really like them. It's the only sulfate and paraben free brand I've found that still feels like a luxury product. Recently though I bought their shine mist (just so that I'd spend enough to get free shipping) and omg I love it!! One spray after I dry and straighten my hair and it keeps my hair perfect until I wash it again, 2-3 days later. It smells fab too! Think it was about €18 but well worth it, and it's a big bottle that'll last ages.

I made my first Pat McGrath purchases in the Black Friday sale last year and was so impressed I couldn’t resist her latest sale last month. I got a bundle of the first three mothership palettes, subliminal, sublime and subversive. I found the colour stories to be appealing but a little bit intimidating at first especially compared to the more everyday and wearable colour stories of the previous two palettes I bought, divine rose I and bronze seduction.

They’re not colours that I would usually go for however I’ve been playing around with them for the past two weeks and have found them to be far more usable and wearable than my first impressions. I incorporated the deep blue shimmer shade from the subliminal palette into my eye look today and I’m still blown away at how much the colours when applied actually look like the colours in the palette, actually most of them even look better when applied. Normally I would have avoided shades like the deep blue as they tend to look muddy on me especially when blended out and not much like the original shade but this was so pigmented and vibrant.

I’ve never had so many compliments on my eye makeup since I started using her shadows and to be fair I’m not the best at application or working out cohesive eye looks but the special shades are definitely eye catching! There are four “special’ shades in each mothership palette apart from decadence. They have different finishes to the other six matte and shimmer shades. There are duo/triochromes, some almost like a wet foil look and textured shades, hard to describe without seeing them in person and photos don’t do them justice either.

I incorporated the deep blue shimmer shade from the subliminal palette into my eye look today and I’m still blown away at how much the colours when applied actually look like the colours in the palette, actually most of them even look better when applied. Normally I would have avoided shades like the deep blue as they tend to look muddy on me especially when blended out and not much like the original shade but this was so pigmented and vibrant.

I’ve never had so many compliments on my eye makeup since I started using her shadows and to be fair I’m not the best at application or working out cohesive eye looks but the special shades are definitely eye catching! There are four “special’ shades in each mothership palette apart from decadence. They have different finishes to the other six matte and shimmer shades. There are duo/triochromes, some almost like a wet foil look and textured shades, hard to describe without seeing them in person and photos don’t do them justice either.

I have to ask are they worth the price. She's a brand I refuse to pay the money for. I'd want a mua to come with the price

I wouldn’t pay the full price for them, €130 is crazy money for a ten pan palette or even to fork out for any palette! The site has a sale every few months, usually 25 or 30 percent off. There are often reduced bundles as well which you can use the discount code on. So normally the three palettes I bought would have cost €390 but they were reduced in a bundle together for €305 and with the 25 percent off last month it brought them down to 230 or about €77 each, still pricey though (all taxes/customs are included, free shipping can sometimes be included too but isn’t too expensive otherwise).

If you’re more into mattes I wouldn’t bother with them, as there’s only three shades per palette. I also wouldn’t buy the 6 pan palettes as they don’t seem to be up to the same standard as the mothership palettes. Some of the four pan palettes seem to be worth a look though. If you have some money to burn they are some of the best palettes out there but they definitively aren’t worth it for everyone, I’ve seen very believable dupes from more inexpensive brands, some even getting close enough to matching the special shades however I just personally like the artistry and quality of the shades she’s put together in each palette, she knows what works!

I’m also a big fan of Natasha Denona and would recommend her palettes if you haven’t tried them. Again I wouldn’t pay out for her full size palettes as they are €100+ or even €200+ for her largest palettes but the midi 15 pan palettes are around €65, they’re actually reduced at the moment on feelunique to under €60. I have the glam, bronze, sunrise and love ones and I love her formula too, very pretty shimmers and great mattes to work with. The pans are also magnetic so can be popped out and rearranged.

Bought this set recently on Boots as Becca are being discontined and I had tried the backlight primer from Lookfantastic recently and liked it!

The Backlight primer on its own is 36 and the C pop highlighter which i love is 39 so its brill value for 45 for the set.

I like the matte side of the eyeshadow thing too - the glitter bit is a bit much for me but would highly recommend this set - surprised its still in stock tbh.

Saw lots of good deals on Pestle and Mortar this weekend so repurchased the hylauranic serum which was reduced on Goldens Pharmacy (its on offer in a good few places for 34ish) - with a P&M fee exfoliant if you spent over 50. I picked up the glow drops which I am really hoping don't break me out. They were pricey at 38 but should last ages (LL15 is 15% off for the full price stuff).

Also picked up a mini of the Tan Luxe drops on Asos when they had a discount so will compare!

Backlight primer is lovely and shadows are quite nice too! Will see how they wear

I picked up Rimmel Lasting Finish foundation when I was waiting on my Mac Studio Fix to arrive, and it's honestly just as good. I'm amazed. I was almost gonna return my Mac one when it came, but I'm gonna keep it for special occasions (or if we ever get a night out again) cause it does be great in photos. The Rimmel one is a third of the price so def worth trying. I'm NW13 in studio fix and I got Ivory 100 in the Rimmel one.

Also, I got that "5 second eyes" cream trio from that Upcosmetics line, but wouldn't recommend it unless you wear a lot of make up with it or it just looks too much - the glitter goes all over the place and it's more like something you'd wear on a night out IMO. I was losing me mind trying to get all the glitter off my face. ��

I also got 5 second eyes and although I love the colours I find they don’t last and crease quite easily. I’ve had to reapply during the day to make them look decent ! I’ve used eye shadow primer too but it hasn’t helped !

I did love the colours until I actually put them on. I didn't leave them on long enough to see how long they last though.:pac:
I really think they should have been marketed more as a very glam look rather than a quick everyday "5 second" eye makeup.

Also, update on my Rimmel Vs Studio Fix - my normal Studio Fix came yesterday and I put it on to see if there really was much of a difference, and ended up taking it off and wearing the Rimmel instead! I think it's a consistency thing more than anything, the Rimmel one is much less drying on my skin, but I'd just got so used to Studio Fix I never realised it. I might try mixing them to see what that's like.

Looking in my drawer I found a tinted spf face cream from Penneys that I bought last year. I’ll confess I’m not great at wearing spf daily so I thought this would be handy for popping on and would give a little life to my face seeing as I’m home and not wearing makeup.

It looked grubby after a few hours and you could see where it hadn’t been carefully blended along my jawline. It’s a pity because it would have been handy.

I bought the Sculpted Second Skin Foundation in Dewy and have been trying it for a few days but I'm really not sure about it! I feel like I'm not getting enough coverage from it, I find it hard to blend out without losing coverage, I really don't know. Maybe it's going to be my "good skin day" foundation but tbh for that I'm happy with my L'Oreal True Match. I dunno!
Absolutely love her Brighten Up concealer though!
