Northern Ireland will see the effects of the their vaccine rollout before we do and it will be a good guide to see how restrictions can safely be relaxed.

So if vaccine passports become a thing before the summer, then the vulnerable and elderly will be able to travel more easily than the younger people who may not be able to travel at all?

They won't, as they won't be feasible. The vaccines will require regular boosters just like the flu vaccine.

    Fcuk this.
These scaremongering s***s are just trying to break us at this stage.
Promising years of this? Even after vaccines are rolled out?

They can shove their plans up their holes.

When the group that's dying is all vaccinated is the country going to stay in the doldrems to save the lives of less than 100 people a year who will be outside this group and die? If it is we need to ban cars from our roads and return to the medieval age of transport.

And lockdown each year to stop flu deaths.

Operative word right there..... And restrictions could be as simple as contact tracing in restaurants and pubs....

You keep telling yourself that chief.

Of course the irony of the bit in bold is that people in group will likely still die at the same rate it just won’t be Covid that takes them

The life expectancy of a man in this country is 80, the median age of death is 83-84.

30,000+ souls depart this nation every year, we were only concerned for 2000 of those souls last year

What I wonder is if someone who was vaccinated dies of a heart attack and has tested positive for Covid will they be classed as a Covid death (as per current reporting where once you tested positive for Covid you are in the stats as dying with/from it) or will they exempt from Covid testing all those who were vaccinated to suit their narrative?

Yeah, open everything up and get everyone back to work. We'll burn through the excess bodies in no time.

This thread should just be merged with the pubs one, to save time.

Essentially this thing will all end when the people ignore the restrictions.

We all imagine an independence day when we can go back to normal but it will be when businesses and people say f**k off. And it will be over a small number of days.

Which will be a long time away for the responsible ones anyway. Anyone who believes or acts otherwise is part of the problem

They say these lockdowns are about protecting the vulnerable.
How about these politicians/viral 'experts' shut their fu@kin mouths when they casually go on air/do interviews predicting what would seem really depressing forecasts.
Theres another portion of vulnerable people in our society that also need protecting, from all age groups, its the mentally vulnerable and dont need to hear this kind of nonsense.

I'm looking forward to the summer to get out of lockdown for a while, but I really hope they get the vaccine rolled out faster and get the vulnerable groups vaccinated quickly.

We could be in a much better position if this occurs.

Dont say "out of lockdown for a while" please.

Out of lockdown, that's it, done.

    Everyone remain calm.

We all need to keep playing our part. Remember that the next two weeks are crucial in our battle to flatten the curve.

How can people remain calm when certain individuals of influence constantly go to media with doomsday scenarios?

I’m quite glad to hear Leo talk openly about their very costly and cowardly plan. Time to stop lying to people.

Keep mentioning austerity and spending cuts.
Keep talking about restrictions until well into 2022.
Keep talking about “Just in case” lockdowns this winter.

Let the pro restrictions know what they are supporting.

Summer 2021 is going to even stricter than 2020. Notice he never even mentioned restaurants and gastro pubs. Because they probably won’t open this year.

Lads its a bit hysterical inhere cant understand varadker to be honest. when vulnerable are and over 70s vaxxed, hospitalizations and deaths will fall to near 0. Now my thinking is the rest of europe will not arse around restriciting themselves nor will UK once they can anyway safely open they will. there will be a torrent of people heading north.

When the CMO in the north is saying there will probably be restrictions for the rest of this year and into next year, I wouldn't be so sure of that.

"What's another year" is my favourite song :pac: it's so poetic.

He said the restrictions will last well into 2022. And we could be facing a 'fourth wave' next winter.

That is a lost year to me. Just like 2020 and now 2021.

If everything is open (except large gatherings) and the only other restrictions are mask wearing and social distancing, is that another year lost?

living in this country is ****ing unbearable misery at this point im ready to give up it's like they're trying to goad people into suicide at this point i know it's a hideous thing to say but it's ****ing sadistic what they're doing

My almost 90 year old grandmother survived German occupation when speaking her language could have gotten her a trip to a concentration camp or a straight bullet to the head. Yet they all did schooling underground and moved around as much as they could to stay close to family and friends, knowing that they might not come back home. After I told her about the current situation and prognosis for this and next year she said: But that is not living! I think she knows a thing or two about life. I hope to see her this summer.
