That beast is getting closer. Raw south-east winds screeching in from a frozen continent.

The posts now in this thread a few posts up.

Yeah, difficult to contain excitement with an 18z like that. Proper cold air from the east. Day 10 though, let's not forget!

Mad it never brings in the breakdown. Wouldn't be surprised this was an outlier but wow. I did see a fair cluster (no big outliers) of cold ensembles on the 12z, wonder what the 18z will be like. Obviously operational would be in that if there continues to be.

something strange at GFS 12z at +258 hours, looks like a wrong chart.

Does that chart actually show it being colder in Ireland than Svalbard and eastern greenland?

There's 'proper cold' from tomorrow too folks! :pac: Let's not lose sight of what's right in front of us by looking beyond it :too much :D

We're given lapland, parts of Iceland and much of northern Scandi a run for their money. But were like an oven compared to Poland getting close to -30 there.

    GFSOPSC18_228_5.png

    that's some serious cold pool.

German weather forecast changes and now the midterm 10 day outlook is for Berlin to stay below freezing and the cold to spread south to Munich, which also remains in the freezer;this suggests the Atlantic makes little progress and the east wind remains in control

Who here just ordered another beast? The pub run just drank every bottle of whiskey I think.

    Here's the control run. Nice

    gens-0-1-186.png

Just looking across the models there is a very good chance surface temperatures remain very low throughout next weekend which means snowfall from Thursday/Friday could last some time in many places.

jeez if we could ever bank a run it would be this one; ice days, significant snowfall, cold reload. Not much more you cold ask for- well, aside from getting rid of the milder blip, but as Kermit said with snowfields even that might be modified.

I really don't think it's all going to play out like this till the 23 of February, that pub run is absolutely nuts.

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,568 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

Step away from the controls Gonzo (and the alcohol)

Lads, it's not going to happen like that.

It was good fun, but that was a load of indulgent nonsense. Right?

Considering we have had three SSW events and the GFS has a tendency to simulate milder air coming in quickly. I wouldn’t put it out of the realms of possibilities for us to have a continuous cold spell for two weeks.

I think a cold spell out to Saturday is at least very possible now.
