BBC news weather outlook gave no notice of the low out to the west. jet well to the south. cold remains. of course things could change after wed/thurs but for now:

    Cold is coming
Snow for parts of the east
    Dry and brighter further west
    Something for everyone. enjoy.

I know a few terms etc in here but what is the "pub run"?

It's the last run by the models, done after pub closing time and is usually drunk!!!

The GFS 18z (or 6pm output in Winter, 7pm in Summer) model run. By the time it has completed and put online it is usually near 10pm/11pm.

The term "pub run" is a throw-back to the days when folks went for a pint or two after a day's work (6pm).

The 18z run has a habit of throwing out outlandish scenarios, be it winter blizzards or summer heatwaves, hence "the run is drunk".

Hope this little weather folklore has been an interesting nugget for you! :D

Why are you crushed? You may get 3 days of snow while here in mayo looks like nothing. Maybe you aimed too high with your "1947esque" comment a day or 2 ago.

Does it genuinely throw out more crazy scenarios than other runs? If so, why? It is based off different data?

Well it has less data. For example, only the 00z and 12z runs use the weather balloon sounding data from around the world which is important for gaining upper atmosphere measurements.

Finally realising these are times :D would have helped if my brain copped that before I read 400 posts with ;)

    I'll understand weather basics yet!

    Fantastic forecast by the BBC.
Their graphics are amazing and explain everything very well. RTE/ME, still in the dark ages

Having watched that, agree completely. I didn't even turn on any sound and could follow it grand. RTE/Met Eireanns gammy static images/Windows 95 screensaver animations look like pure arse(not the nice kind) in comparison.

Met Éireann app has snow for me on Wednesday, a bit bullish for West Clare!

Some exciting weather coming up and some nice weather watching to be done. I can't imagine it'll be a particularly memorable event but it will be fun to enjoy the weather for a while.

Thousands of times better than Atlantic wind and drizzle.

That Wednesday snow is the Atlantic low hitting cold air. Could end up as rain but might not. Anyway the track of the low isn’t determined yet

Much too early to tell at the moment anyways.

Wouldn't mind a nice dumping, but the only easterly that's ever delivered here was storm Emma. When expectations are low, you can be surprised.

Looks like showers just in the greater Dublin area from that.

I know it is just a rough representation of what we might get but hopefully the showers go a little further inland.

Met Eireann 5 to 8 forecast radio one
Bitterly cold sleet and snow showers from Monday mainly over the north of Leinster
    Rain showers up to then
    Siobhán Ryan did the forecast

Literally is a nowcast rather than a forecast situation. I'll only get excited when the first flakes of this spell fall. It's your best bet to avoid emotional damage.

Do these broadcast on any TV channel?

Exciting times ahead now. Maybe not for the south yet according to MTs forecast still time. South can still do well for battleground scenario as 850s wont necessarily need to be as low.

As long as that contrasting line of cold and less cold doesnt move further north closer to Monday!
    Stay tuned.

Can anyone give any guidance on the Limerick/Tipp boarders? Nearer to Tipp town than Limerick city??

I saw a bbc tv forecast last night, they have rain for UK up until Saturday, the fun begins on Sunday. Only Scottish highlands to get snow before Sunday. Then fun and games from Sunday onwards

We seem to be holding onto the milder uppers further South. Hopefully that can change and some kinks can appear in the flow giving showers more widespread.

If we do get flakes they wont be of the small variety. Not to say that is really good its just temps wont be as cold as 2018.

    Just curious really ;)
Why the mention of who did the forecast?

No expert here but to me again the sweetspot looks to be roughly North Kildare. ( early days of next week anyhow) Obviously further North will be colder but may not get same precipitation.

Even north Kildare could end up been marginal yet too.
    All to play for.

If i could ever bank a run it would be the latest ECM! A snowy run for many and the cold hangs on for 8 days. Thats more than a brief cold spell in my view!
