It's back from 8am tomorrow on Netflix lads

    It's an all time classic

And it deserves it's own new thread

Can't wait. It's honestly the first thing I've looked forward to this year so far

In the meantime, express how you feel about it's return using the power of Gifs

Really like the first 2-3 series. The i bested you episode is just comedy perfection from start to finish.

    It is an absolute classic..

    Followed :D

I have the Mammy staying with us for the Level 5 festivities so this is going on the list along with Schitt's Creek (finished it already :(), Kim's Convenience, Superstore and thinking about a rewatch of Modern Family.

Need a dose of comedy and something that last too long per episode.

One of the best ever - although tbh I found the last series dragged a bit.....

Brother in law used to rave about P & R but sister & I only tried it a week ago ... absolutely hooked since starting it. The two of us were saying yesterday how Ron is one of those guys we could put in the unusual guys you fancy thread. Not our usual type but ... there is something about him.

Caveat ... may have been beer goggles talking

I watched it on Prime at the end of the last year - comedy gold. It took a while to get going, season 1 wasn't my favourite. But season 2 right up to the 2nd to last were excellent. Everyone should watch this.

For added hilarity for those new to the show, Ron is married to his on-screen ex (Tammy 2) in real life. It makes their scenes together even funnier!

Season 2 was a such massive course correction for the show. They knew what the problems were and aggressively set about sorting it out. It really should be a required case study for all comedy show runners.

    For sure

I'm still going to watch it once I start this Re-watch though

I'm currently re-watching The West Wing and slogging my way through the very patchy Season 5. It's 22 episodes x 42 mins plus Ads on the All 4 app

6 quick episodes of the first Season of Parks & Rec of 6 episodes x 22 mins is nothing by comparison. It flies by

Ron is obviously great but Jean Ralphio is a scene stealer.

Watched it all during the last year on prime
Skipped season one on advice of a friend
Still took a while to get into it

I’m delighted I skipped season one as I now have 6 “new “ episodes to watch :)
Well 5 Cos I watched one last night

I'm currently watching this for the first time on Amazon prime! Didn't think much at first, but I read the reviews which basically said ignore the first series and stick with it.

I feel from midway through the second series is when it really took off and now I'm properly invested. At just 21 minutes an episode it's such an easy watch. Highlights so far are Ron getting shot, his 'pyramid of manliness' and April scheduling 93 meetings for one day because she didn't know March 31st existed :pac:

Should probably avoid this thread from now on for spoilers, but I hope the best is yet to come!

I liked it anyway. Very often a settling in period with these shows - Seinfeld, Red Dwarf others i like that needed some time to find their feet but that doesnt mean opening series were bad at all. For a really truly dreadful opening series, see Black Adder.

A character I could have had more of was Tynnyfer :)

Recorded it on Sky Comedy last year so that was handy to watch during first lockdown. Great show. Will likely watch random episodes again. Barney gets to me every time, his sparse use is great.

Seeing Jennifer Barkley in Wandavision too, she's great!

Ok, can I just say something though........

We need Joan to take over the Six O'Clock show or something similar. I'd watch that shiz in a heartbeat.

I didn't think Season 1 was that bad.It definitely takes an upturn in quality from season 2 onwards but I don't think anyone should skip the season,it's only 6 episodes.

Is it better than the US Office though?

It's almost a draw between them for me

I always felt like the office was better at the comedy, P&R had a bit more heart beyond the jokes.

Which is best depends on what you'd put more weight in.

Only caught up on this last year and enjoyed it.....BUT....

Myself and the missus watched the first three episodes of the last series but just stopped watching it :-(

There was no discussion or specific reason but we abandoned it and no signs of going back tbh...it just got a bit tired imho and the actors seemed to be phoning it in a bit.

    Anyway tldr:
Is it worth us going back and watching the rest of the last series??

It can be that way, we ploughed through the entire thing not so long ago and Jerry's treatment by others really started to annoy me.

Maybe in bite sized doses it might not have been noticeable but watching one episode after the other made it seem like relentless bullying.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,533 Mod ✭✭✭✭yerwanthere123

Midway through the third series now. Probably my favourite line so far:
Pawnee's an incredibly superstitious town. A traveling magician came through one time, and he pulled a rabbit out of a hat, and the mob burned him at the stake for being a witch. The year was 1973.

    :D

I’ve watched and rewatched this. Loved it for the most part.

The bullying of Jerry is so out of sync with the rest of this show. And completely needless. Otherwise nice people acting the maggot.

The absolute best moment and peak Leslie was when she and Ron weren’t taking and locked into the office together. Just perfect.

How many seasons of it in total are there?..I can't remember how much past 5 I got..

Yeah, it's getting to the stage where I'm just going to watch it again..

Anyway they gave him an amazing home life to make up for it.

Was Terry for a while, also Larry, Garry and maybe others i forget too. He seemed happy out regardless and they fulfilled his dream by making him mayor i think. Episode they tried to make Tom the new Jerry (!) was great.

I used to love when Ben got really annoyed by Gary having such a hot wife.

The interesting thing about p&r is how they kept the headshots and interviews from the Office, however it’s not really a mockumentary format. Just gives us a way to get peoples opinions.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,533 Mod ✭✭✭✭yerwanthere123

Finishd the third series now. Overall I'm really enjoying it, although sometimes I find the quality can be up and down between episodes. Some feel like filler, whilst others are brilliant.

    I loved this though
Leslie: [reading aloud Pawnee's various former slogans] "Pawnee, the Paris of America". "Pawnee, the Akron of southwest Indiana". "Pawnee, Welcome, German soldiers". After the Nazis took France, our mayor kind of panicked. "Pawnee, the factory fire capital of America". "Pawnee, Welcome, Vietnamese soldiers". "Pawnee, engage with Zorp". For a brief time in the '70s, our town was taken over by a cult. "Pawnee, Zorp is dead. Long live Zorp". "Pawnee, it's safe to be here now". "Pawnee, birthplace of Julia Roberts". That was a lie, she sued and so we had to change it. "Pawnee, Home of the World Famous Julia Roberts lawsuit". "Pawnee, Welcome, Taliban soldiers". And finally, our current slogan: "Pawnee, First in Friendship, Fourth in Obesity".

    :pac:

I'm trying to keep the momentum going with a re-watch of The West Wing. I knew if I stopped watching the very patchy Season 5 that I'd never return to it

So I only started the Parks and Rec re-watch last night and "yikes!" @ the first episode. I forgot how shíte it was

Thankfully you can see some little signs of improvement with the second and third episode

    Oh and compulsory gif ...

I started watching for the first time in late summer and finished the whole lot just before Christmas.

Thought it was really good for the most part.
Ron Swanson is my new hero.
    Thought Rob Lowe was brilliant.
And I just loved Lesley. Throughout the whole seven seasons her enthusiasm and tenacity just never waned.

    Just a couple of faults
In the last few seasons they messed with Andy and April's characters too much.
They really hammed up Andy being a man child, and they really did the same with April and all the morbid stuff.

The characters were much better when Andy was more subtle and when April was a young female version of Ron.

And the bullying of Jerry\Larry\Terry did become tiresome in the latter seasons
I think it had to do with the departure of Chris and Anne Perkins, they needed to fill the void.
