    And no wonderwall either!

Congrats Osh and great reveal JGF. Happy enough with mid table considering I went with a pretty generic song.

Dirty Old Town and Wind Beneath My Wings notably absent too.

I knew I was in trouble in this round after the first round :)

I like singing this one because I can sing it nice and low and nobody can hear my terrible voice :D

Yep, I just love how he's absolutely killed out by the end of it - can barely croak a hello.

Top marks to Rikand for Freak on A Leash:

    BOOMNADANOOMNANAMENA
    BOOMNADANOOMNANAMENA -

    or lyrics to that effect.

You probably all thought that this walrus was dead and gone... never to be revived.

    But it returns.
    JohnGreenFan's Walrus Round 3 returns tonight: 7pm.

    See you all then!

I'm more worried about tusk though, did we all do too well on the "A song that will make me cry" round and break him? :o

Just over 30 minutes until we kick off with Round 3: First Dance Songs.
A tough round, with a good mix of songs I knew and songs I was unfamiliar with!

A few of my own personal favourite choices that I might have entered in this round...

    Better - Tom Baxter

Simply The Best - Noah Reid

Ray Montagne - You Are The Best Thing

Interestingly enough I had actually ranked all these songs back in January but never finished the writeups. People will fare VERY differently now than they would have back in January...

    Let's get this started!

Kicking off round 3 and in 11th place with 11 points is:
    Rikand

    True Companion – Marc Cohn

Have I listened to this artist before? Yes
Have I listened to this song before? No

This is a really nice song, good rhythm to it. Not sure why I was reminded of Bruce Springsteen a little bit with the opening. Love the piano going through it. I would only be familiar with Walking in Memphis from Marc Cohn. It’s nice but I found it a tiny bit repetitive – but lovely nonetheless.

What was round 3 again ?

    -edit-

    Ah, I know now :D

In 12th place with 10 points is:
    Mustang shelly

    The Voyage – Christy Moore

Have I listened to this artist before? Yes
Have I listened to this song before? Yes

Is this a great song? Absolutely. Is it a first dance song? Ummmm… I don’t know.

It’s a lovely song but I feel like you just can’t dance to Christy Moore. Christy is for quiet rooms at 3am and everyone holding a glass of whiskey and swaying back and forth. Silent appreciation of a master. Not a first dance.

    Deleted User

Cyndi Lauper – Time After Time

Have I listened to this artist before? Yes
Have I listened to this song before? Yes

Such a beautiful song – love Cyndi Lauper’s voice. Overfamiliarity hurt its placing a small bit. I’m not sure it would be an easy one to dance to. I’m a rubbish dancer but that will become apparent over the rounds - apparently it's hard to find a song I can dance to!

In 13th place with 9 points is:
    Irish Aris

    Everything – Michael Buble

Have I listened to this artist before? Yes
Have I listened to this song before? Yes

Michael Buble is such an easy pick for these kinds of rounds, and this song in particular suffers from a little bit of overfamiliarity when it features on just about every First Dance playlist on Spotify. Nice easy song to dance to though, lovely rhythm to it.

In 9th place with 13 points is
    phatkev

Higher and Higher – Otis Redding

Have I listened to this artist before? Yes
Have I listened to this song before? Yes

We’re all familiar with my love for a good bop and this one has definitely got a chorus which scores high on the bop-o-meter!! Excellent choice, maybe one for just after the first dance to get everyone else out on the floor. I’d more be familiar with the Jackie Wilson version and I think I’d still prefer that version to this one.

In 14th place with 8 points is
    JP Liz V1

A Thousand Years – Christina Perri

Have I listened to this artist before? Yes
Have I listened to this song before? Yes

This is a song I feel is almost like a cheat code, given that I think it was written for the wedding scene in one of the Twilight Saga films. It is a beautiful song and Christina Perri’s voice is breath-taking, I adore it. Only for my slight aversion to Twilight due to a minor obsession with it in my teenage years, and a minor hatred for it now as a result, it probably would have placed higher.

    Electric Nitwit

Everybody Needs Somebody To Love – The Blues Brothers

Have I listened to this artist before? Yes
Have I listened to this song before? Yes

This is a proper little bop which I love. Fling your partner around the dancefloor! Spin them into the crowd! Knock over several tables and your great aunt Mary! Hijack the microphone for the I NEED YOU, YOU, YOU section! This song is one for living your best life.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,868 ✭✭✭JohnGreenFan

In 15th place with 7 points is
    Sawduck

    No One – Alicia Keys

Have I listened to this artist before? Yes
Have I listened to this song before? Yes

This would surely be a such an awkward song to dance to. We certainly weren’t able to manage it when we tested it out! I do like the song but it’s not a good fit here in my opinion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,868 ✭✭✭JohnGreenFan

In 7th place with 15 points is
    Kolido

    Suddenly – Angry Anderson

Have I listened to this artist before? No
Have I listened to this song before? No

I wasn’t familiar with this song before this but I really enjoyed it. His voice really grows on you more with repeated listens, and that guitar solo is deadly. Think this would be a really nice first dance song.

Baywatch Theme (I’m Always There) – Jimi Jameson

Have I listened to this artist before? No
Have I listened to this song before? No

This what I came up when I googled Baywatch theme tune, so apologies if it was a different version you meant!
Baywatch is considerably before my time having started in 1989 and it wouldn’t have been a song I was familiar with so I tried to go in with an open mind. To be honest, it’s not a bad song, some nice guitar in it but it definitely wouldn’t be my choice for a first dance song! Although I do reckon it would be gas to see the reactions of people who recognised the song :D

This is an excellent song but can’t dance to it. Awkward swaying or side to sides on the drum beats?? (Am I just outing myself as having no rhythm at all that I can’t dance to anything?) Just doesn’t have the first dance fit for me.

This actually was our first dance, our band nailed it! They replaced the spoken introducion with a call to the floor, telling everyone we didn't want to dance on our own and it worked :D

    Just Breathe – Pearl Jam

Have I listened to this artist before? Yes
Have I listened to this song before? No

Was I expecting to be allergic to yet another Pearl Jam submission? Absolutely.
Was I pleasantly surprised? Oh yes.

Really really enjoyed this. I still think his voice is a little whiney but the song itself is gorgeous. Just the right speed that you could get away with awkwardly moving back and forth and pretending to be able to dance, but a little bit of a beat to it that you could actually dance to it.

When The Stars Go Blue – Ryan Adams

Have I listened to this song before? No

I wasn’t really a fan of this one – it’s grand but the song seems very generic – I felt like I had heard it before but I’m pretty sure I hadn’t ever heard it. Also, I don’t know if I’m missing something, but why are the stars going blue? (This may have distracted me for longer than I am willing to admit.)

I love this song so much. One of my favourites for a good slow dance. ‘You’re the measure of my dreams’ gets me every time. Fantastic lyrics, fantastic backing track, great for a slow dance or a good ‘swing your partner around the floor’. Solid choice.

I love that idea! We love to dance but we're both rubbish so the idea of people watching us while he tries not to step on my toes/dress isn't too appealing :pac:

see on my own I could bop to anything, but trying to coordinate that bopping with someone else doesn't seem to work well for me!
