The vast majority of people out walking are not wearing masks. Why would they? Agree on the first part when it comes to indoors.

I am talking about my generation who are walking with friends . And yes they wear masks as an extra precaution.
I had a walk with my sister and we both wore masks as we walked together

There have been 532 deaths so far in January and we can unfortunately expect this trend to continue over the coming days.- Deputy CMO Dr Ronan Glynn.

Ok, but you didn't make that clear. Many over 70s I see would be wearing masks but they are a small percentage of those I see out and about. Usually early in the day.

Do they do in Cork airport anyway

However if someone doesn't have the test they're left through anyway so not much point there

All airlines I know are checking it before they let you board

Donnelly is completely useless having to clarify twice his "every citizen" pledge.

He actually meant residents and adults, children won't be vaccinated by September.

He also apologised to Catherine Connolly today for his stroppy behaviour in the Dail last week.

He's an embarrassment to the government.

I'm usually very positive & have been working from home since mid March.

Genuinely only go out for walks, alone & at quieter times & the supermarket max once a week.

I spend a lot time in the evening on the phone chatting to people, sure I would prefer to do it in person but it's not that bad even though I'm a very sociable person normally.

Beginning to think I'm the idiot & everyone must be seeing people regularly.

Most people are sticking to the rules, the numbers wouldn't be decreasing otherwise.

I go to work and that's it. I probably see or hear of more people being quite "relaxed" in their interpretation of the rules than most do, just by the nature of working with a large number of people and a large proportion of the workforce being youngish, under 25.

It's a bit of a shock sometimes the near total level of ignorance from some that I work with. Not everybody of course, but generally the young ones - with some exceptions - are fairly clueless about sticking to the rules, are completely divorced from what's happening and have a extremely cavalier attitude to the risk. Forget about the bigger picture.

Of course, this isn't without some reason. These people wouldn't have been too checked in with what was happening newswise to begin with and have checked out even more than usual as this has gone on. And they see no risk to themselves or their friends. And being young, it's very hard to sacrifice all the craic and the living that goes with being young. But, unfortunately, you do end up having clusters of cases - as has happened where I work - and it often has worse consequences for older members of staff that work alongside the youngsters, or members of staff who worry about bringing something dangerous home to an elderly or vulnerable relative who they live with.

Are these walks with other people really necessary? Can you not give them a miss for January? Walk on your own for a while.

Closer to August I'm sure he will say he meant something else entirely, maybe it was actually September 2022 sure.. :pac:

The poster is taking a walk outdoors wearing a mask in the company of another whom also is wearing a mask and you see danger? Btw what will be different in February that a walk alone is recommended till then?

Is breathing necessary? I mean, how far do you want to go? Walking together in the open air is perfectly safe.

One thing I haven't seen regarding the revised swabs (but might just have missed, this thread is fast) - the number of positive swabs is getting revised, but at the same time the number of total swabs is getting revised as well.

    Date|Original Swab Positivity (%)|Revised Swab Positivity (%)
    15-Jan|15.11%|15.11%
    16-Jan|12.20%|12.15%
    17-Jan|13.55%|13.38%
    18-Jan|10.18%|10.32%
    19-Jan|9.06%|9.28%
    20-Jan|11.49%|11.49%

Sp it's just noise, there is no significant variation in the positivity rate. I wonder if this is the result of using some external testing center?

As a side node, with the revised number at this point the backlog is basically not existent, positive swabs are very close to cases now. Since the 22nd of December only 101 swabs more than cases.

I meet my mother for a walk at least twice a week. It’s the only in person social contact she has. The cocooning in lockdown1 was too much isolation and we are not letting that happen again

With KLM you have to show them a PCR and an Antigen test to fly through Amsterdam or they won’t let you board. Do you mean flying into Dublin?

Must be a change in policy so which is fair enough

Definitely wasn't happening but no KLM flights in Cork for the last week

    Might be one due Saturday

I know several people who were turned away from KLM flights the day they announced antigen on top of PCR (they had no time to organise one). Also know people turned away from Ryanair, Lufthansa, Aerlingus in the past month.

Well the poster seems to be making point that people should be wearing masks while out walking.

But if they are so interested in not spreading the virus, then perhaps we should all refrain from meeting up with People for the month of January, even if it outdoors.

We weren't doing it in March and April.

Only acceptable forms of breathing are allowed. Hope they arent taking any deep breaths out there and killing everyone

I made no point about anyone else wearing a mask , I said I wore a mask and I see others out walking with masks . Why Does that bother you ? . You do what you want and I do as I see fit while adhering to NPHET advice
You can stay inside and dance naked for all I care . Suit yourself

Guards not happy in Cork airport when people don't have the test
