I doubt teachers will go back until September. I think the unions were always looking for a good reason to close the schools and the huge rise in cases since Christmas is it.

Ohh my dear God. Inform yourself Paddy. Very ill-informed.

I'm not ill informed. That's the official statement from the government last night. I'm genuinely interested as to where they go to next now that they've said unions are not cooperating?
If I told my employer I not going in due to high cases (and I don't work in essential services and am still expected to work) I wouldn't be paid simple as. So do they let the unions dictate how things are going to go or make a decision and follow through?

She didn't answer it. She talked but didn't answer.

Ask your TD if the PUP is available to any public servant? When you get an answer then you'll understand the ill-informed comment.

Also go back and reread the statement from INTO/Forsa. Point out where they refused to go back? They urged them to reconsider. Both unions cannot under their bylaws tell their members not to turn up for work.

Now we are on to the Leaving Cert. This is a bloody shambles.

The issue is that statement is what the general public will take away.

When do you think they will go back?

Bit you can’t put someone who’s still working on pup, do keep up!

You can’t just put them on pup payment because they’re not working in a way you want them to, good man!

Ohh my dear God. Norma needs to be removed from publicly commenting on this. Michael Martin needs to lead and realise that she isn't capable of allowing a compromise to be arrived at that both sides are happy to accept and that both can claim credit for.

Norma taking that Boyle lad apart from limb to limb on Morning Ireland

Claiming an agreement had been reached but that the unions pulled back.

    Both unions utterly dispute this.

Let's call a spade a spade here, the unions won't put themselves over a barrel for the government on this. They don't have to use an official statement to get it around to their members.
Games are being played here on both sides and my child's needs are completely disregarded!

Norma is a major part of the problem here now. Taoiseach needs to get involved.

Sounds about right. She never answers a direct question.

    Foley's position is completely untenable.

This situation has been created by her lack of leadership, arrogance and astonishing lack of communication skills for someone responsible for managing interests from different parties.

And there you go lads, it’s all your fault anyway according to Norma this morning, everyone’s fault

“Schools didn’t open because people didn’t do what they were asked to do’ in reducing personal contacts” according to Norma.

No mention of her government decision to open everything causing this mess.

If that doesn’t open people eyes in to what your dealing with her with Norma, nothing will.

Online learning doesn't work for some kids. No amount of sending work out or videos to say hi will change this! Why should my child lose out? 6 in his class, are you telling me that's not as safe as its ever going to get? Any teachers or SNAs who are vulnerable given the option to stay at home. No more excuses plz. If they can't be put on PUP then they go back to work.

    Agreed
Her position is untenable now tbh
She has conquered and divided all of the “education partners “ as planned
Only this time it didn’t have the desired outcome. So now we are left with an unholy mess and nobody has any respect for her or believes anything she says.
It’s too serious Norma for her to remain in charge . She has to go

So now she is blaming the parents and students as well as the teachers , unions and snas . A full house of her “education partners “

But they are working, just not how you want them to.

It your fault anyway according to Norma this morning, schools didn’t open because we didn’t reduce our contacts like asked according to her.

We are all to blame, apart from government of course!

So when do you all think that Schools will reopen for all students now? Feb 22nd after mid-Term?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,134 ✭✭✭Lux23

I think it will be homeschooling, for most students, for the rest of the term.

Well how can you not agree with her? We are up **** creek because people in their droves did exactly what they were asked not too. They were asked to still limit contacts and while many did, there was many who didn’t. In fact it was even said don’t meet friend A on Monday and friend B on Tuesday. It couldn’t have been any clearer and people took the piss. Give an inch ect

I wouldn't be fond of FF as a whole anyway, although I did give McGrath a very high preference in the last GE, but Foley is making me question ever voting for them again if they don't get rid of her.

I reckon that they were expected to stay closed for a good while, that's why there was this push to get special schools open. All this hustle and disorganisation for the sake of a week makes no sense.

I also think opening the special schools was a backdoor to opening for essential workers children, kids who find leaning at home hard etc. We already had her expecting 'vulnerable' kids in, very easy to expand that definition once you have school open in the first place.

Anyway, the short answer is I don't know. I think after this embarrassment Storming Norma will want them open sooner.

for any one who still thinks schools reopening in a hurry is top priority - the germans are extremely worried by these mutations - we still have bigger fish to fry:
