Collette Fitzpatrick giving Michael Martin a roasting on virgin media at the moment. She's firing questions and in fairness to him, she has to give him an opportunity to answer before she jumps in all the time.

He's actually doing remarkably well and insisting she allow him answer it.

I've always like her style but she's far too aggressive his evening. Needs to let him answer.

No fan of MM whatsoever, but she really wasn’t allowing him to answer....not even attempting to listen to anything he was trying to say

The Jeremy Paxman school of cutting edge journalism! But it requires actual talent!

She's borderline hysterically aggressive and unprofessional.

In fairness publishing the letters was a sharp move by NPHET. It's all out there in the open so people can know what the advice was in black and white without political spin.

Yeah I agree with this. That style of interviewing doesn't do the public any favours because they're left with as many answers that they entered with.

Collette Fitzpatrick was terrible on VM News grilling the Taoiseach live on television. She asks a question and then won't let him finish, and then starts with a new question and won't allow him to answer that. Then she repeatedly tries to get him to make a decision about the leaving cert in June even with the current dynamic situation of virus variants, vaccine supply etc. etc., and she wants him to make a decision now.

I'm no fan of Micheál Martin but his responses seemed adequate and reasoned, and he did not come across as maniac as his inquisitor.
Collette should take a chill pill.

If Foley had her way we'd have hundreds of thousands more people interacting every day in small rooms across the country with a lot of them on public transport spreading the virus.

If the government don't get real and impose a proper enforced lockdown then a lot of businesses won't ever open again or it will be April for those that survive. They needed to go heavy and hard from the 1st of January but they've already wasted 2 weeks with this nonsense

She was trying to catch him out and was hoping she could rush him into making a mistake and saying something controversial. She had zero interest in what he was saying.

I normally can't stand Michael Martin and it's an unbelievably bad interviewer that manages to make him look well.

That was his most impressive performance to date imo.

As much as people want answers, the situation is rapidly evolving and there has to be some acceptance that long term answers can't be provided on a lot of things. The Government was the economy back functioning as soon as possible, they won't be delaying it but they can't just ignore changes which are occurring on a daily basis.

More than two million people globally have now died with Covid, roughly one year after the virus was first detected in Wuhan.

Approximately 1.35 million people die each year as a result of road traffic crashes.

And this is all nearly a year later. Complete lack of political leadership. Farcical.

tbh if the government want the schools back open next month they should be vaccinatng school staff ASAP otherwise its not happening with this rate of transmission

I don't think this would be a runner while the elderly and vulnerable have yet to be vaxxed

I can understand the worry for travel between ROI and UK, but why Dublin would be a "backdoor" for international travelers? Starting Monday both Island will basically have the same travel restrictions: PCR test 72 hours before, self-isolate for 10 days/restrict your movements for 14 days, or only 5 if you take another negative test.

One thing I would like to see is free tests for people traveling, at least the one to break movement restriction. Can't image the number would be huge, and I think it would make people less likely to break it and ignore the guidelines.

It's not a Good few weeks but, in effect, a mere two weeks.

We haven't been under level 5 for "a good few weeks". I know it feels forever, but restrictions started to be introduced on the 24th of December, 21 days ago - but that only included closing pub/restaurants. Mixing of two households was still allowed until the 26th (19 days ago) and 1 household until the 1 of January (15 days ago). Non-essential retail was closed on the 31st.

So we have been under proper level 5 for about 2 weeks.

    Last 7 days

Reported Cases 30767 (4395 cases per day average)

Positive Swabs 25973 (3710 positive swabs per average)

    Previous 7 days

Reported Cases 42396 (6057 cases per day average)

Positive swabs 39060 (5580 positive swabs per average)

Decent progress this week, more of the same next week I'd hope.

More interaction than in March. Look at the amount of traffic on the road as an example. That's people going to meet others or work.

I'm doubting now if we'll even see less than a 2000 cases a day this month.

Thank Christ for the vaccines as we'd we fecked otherwise

I've a mobile home down in Kerry that we go to for summer holidays.

Got a letter today saying fees are due for the summer and their office will be open this weekend and next weekend so that people can come down to pay.

Most people who have mobile homes there are from Cork and Limerick so obviously outside 5k, and the fact that he was asking people to come down and queue up for a tiny little office that he'd have staff working in shows the level of idiocy we're dealing with.

Have they heard of the 21st century? Or even the later part of the 20th

Better numbers than this time last week but had hoped to be closer to 2k if not less. Would the nursing home testing be effecting cases yet or will that take a few more days.
Had to pick something up from a buisness park in west Dublin yesterday, plenty of cars parked outside the various units. Don't think people realise the amount of people still allowed to work even within current guidelines. Just because the roads are busier than last March doesn't mean people are flouting the rules.
