Low mileage (166k kms)Volvo s40, NCT to March 2022 and tax until May. 1760. Maybe down to 1550-1600 with bargaining?

How can he give a warranty on the engine and gearbox if they're leaving the country with their family?

They bought it 01/12/2020, so I'm assuming that there's a dealer warranty, that they're assuming will transfer over, but tbh I'd want that confirmation from the dealer, as said warranty may only be for the person that they sold the car to.

Engine bay looks too clean. I distrust very clean engine bays.

Also, "Trade-in Considered" and "moving to another country with family" doesn't really add up, so I'm wondering if he's found a problem that will cost alot further down the road.

with that mileage and that tax it must be nearly saleproof.

True, but I suppose if you specifically need something with that much space or so many seats, and you're on a budget, it'll have to do!

I paid 1200 tax on my last vehicle. It was painful.

Perfect van conversion or even dodgy crewcab conversion if ya could swing one still.

2000kg towing capacity on them, decent engine and not awful on fuel either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,092 ✭✭✭✭Duke O Smiley

What is the story with crew cabs now? I know it would fall outside of the bangernomics parameters, but would that not legibly qualify?

If not bad on fuel how the hell is tax €1200

It might actually be possible to legally crewcab it considering its a van I'm not fully sure. The measurements are supposed to be taken using some sort of laser job now and the loadspace and rear hatch opening has to be a certain percentage of the overall interior space.

And none of the usual passenger 4x4s can pass this now if it's done properly. Still plenty supposedly offering the service. Some fella reckoned the passenger nissan patrol could meet the criteria I dunno what ever became of that though.

Factory built crewcab landcruisers and discoveries etc were and are still fine to be sold new however for some reason and then there was those 4 seater commercial ford kugas too. It's all pretty confusing and full of contradictions from what I've seen.

Now not bad in terms of van type things from that era, but old enough style engine in a fairly big lump of a yoke is a good recipe for high co2 based tax.

Is it still an absolute nightmare to convert something like that to a camper? I'm on the lookout for something like this but hadn't considered this before.

Insurance is tricky on low roof campers, a pop top for that will likely cost a bit more than a VW because they're less popular so less options, still only a few hundred € in the difference. There'd almost certainly be no VRT for the conversion unless it was registered under some kind of VRT exemption. After that you just have to consider the mileage and condition.

Trade sale usually reads to me that we know something is broken or nearing it's end of life, you the buyer should know that and we have no interest in digging to deep into it.

No arm rest would drive me nuts. You'd think he'd give her a lick of the aul hoover before putting the ad up.

Ah here. It's something I can never understand. Saw a lovely yoke a few weeks ago and was about to bookmark it til I saw no armrest. I probably won't be going on long drives on a regular basis for a long time but 80% of my driving is one-footed, one hand on steering wheel and the odd 2nd-3rd gear change.
I would sooner have windy windows front and back than no armrest, I'll never get it.

My vRS came without the arm rest, yes it would have been nice but didn't mind to be honest.

A lot of those U.K. imports are poverty spec, they don't even have a proper centre display on the dash.
