Whatever about pubs, can't see nightclubs opening this year, at least until vaccination programme is complete/virus under (total) control.

He was removed from his role because he publicly complained that they sent infected hospital cases back to nursing homes without testing them for Covid 19. This directly caused 10s of deaths in the nursing homes over which he was a GP. Yeah it’s great that he lost his job for that :rolleyes:

You need to lay off the conspiracy theories. He resigned himself as he was about to get struck off.

I’d say it will be at least another year before night clubs are even considered for opening.

They need something like no rates for 6 months after they reopen

Yes, Sally Maaz at Mayo University Hospital, a 17 year old Syrian teenager who'd settled with her family in Ballyhaunis. https://www.irishtimes.com/news/crime-and-law/courts/coroner-s-court/inquest-into-death-of-girl-17-in-mayo-covid-ward-stopped-over-rule-breach-1.4385492

Please check Table 1 in the CSO report here:
    https://www.cso.ie/en/releasesandpublications/br/b-cdc/covid-19deathsandcasesseries18/

There are no confirmed Covid deaths in anyone 24 or under. These 2 may be among the 258 ‘probable deaths’ ( awaiting confirmation or denotifications) or have already been de notified by the coroner already.

It’s a fact however that there are no confirmed Covid in under 25s up until 11th December.

All healthcare workers deemed Close contacts are now been asked to return to work once they have no symptoms.
This seems crazy, sending possible infected workers to look after the most vulnerable.

Crazy, but none of us know what the situation is like inside the hospitals.

Government has been throwing money at them and they'll pay virtually no tax for 2019 or 2020, and very little in 21.

So they'll be grand. Some that are in debt up to their eyeballs or paying huge rent and not getting any relief from that might have to go under, but the vast majority will be grand.

They'll reopen freshly refurbished and make out like bandits for six months. I wouldn't shed too many tears for the pubs.

In general it seems less patients presenting to GP's so hopefully our numbers drop further. It seems like retrictions work against this new variant which Im sure many expected but I did see an interview with Neil Ferguson and it stated it wasn't sure they would work which I thought was a surprising take. Hopefully its sustainable to keep the Ro below 1 at lower numbers

Hospital numbers have updated on the dashboard.
1750 in hospital (1690 yesterday morning)
    127 admissions (158 yesterday)
    104 discharges

    Some signs of stabilisation.

I reckon we could get close to 2000 before it starts to drop. Still an increase although thankfully increase is slowing down

Yes. Proof of vaccination doesn't mean you're not infected.

it also does not mean that you will not catch it and bring it home, will another test be required to re enter the country?

I don't how what you're saying is consistent tbh. How do you know they're awaiting confirmation or denotification? And then conclude that there's been no confirmed cases on that basis?

Because the CSO table 1 in that report says there have been no confirmed deaths in that age group.

I think Nolans models had best case peak as 1500 and worst case peak as 3000 last Thursday.

2000 would be horrid but given the potential of a 3000 peak we will be happy to take.

The table doesn't distinguish between confirmed cases by age. As you can see it says '' '..' Indicates a cell number < 5 or a cell number < 5 can be identified.'' for this section.

    Thanks. I hadn’t copped that.
Amazing then the at there have been less than 5 deaths in Waterford.

Ya...the old 10000 cases a day trick makes it seem that 3000 isnt so bad right?

These numbers are absolutely brutal...stop trying to sugarcoat it like the government mouthpiece RTE

Nolan's most recent model from Monday put us peaking at 2,200 - 2,500 people in hospital. So if we beat that or come in at the lower end, then that's a positive.

Max numbers in ICU should be around 10% of the max hospital figures, but it could be a little more at peak.

RTE sugarcoat it. What news reports have you been watching. They have been the exact opposite. Every news news report used the words grim and rampant. George Lee is the prince of doom.

We are in a good place. All in all when we look at what was predicted at the start of the pandemic we haven't done that badly. We are in a bad place now. But it will be short lived. Hospital cases will peak by the weekend. By end of January things will be looking good again.

but the damage has been done, deaths will skyrocket over the next 6 weeks, same as has happened in every country , especially as hospitals are over whelmed . many countries who hit cases similar to ours before christmas, have daily death rates of over 100 weeks later..

Yes, if you're gone for more than 72 hours, you will need another PCR test come back into the country.

If you arrive without it, you'll be charged with a criminal offence.

Stephen Donnelly couldnt have said it better.

You are correct, RTE have been doom mongers for this whole pandemic...

HOWEVER, since Ireland became the worst country in the world at handling Covid...they have begun to soften the language...vaccines are coming, numbers will go down etc etc...

Ireland is not the worst country in the world at handling Covid. It had the worst rise over a particular period in the world, which does not equate with it being the worst in the world at handling the pandemic overall.
