So, this is the sort of krap that has us in the current state. Argos recently suspended click & collect to stop people attending the stores. This has now been changed such that only 'essential' items can be collected. There is a post on boards where somebody just collected a PS4 controller!

And just maybe, as we don't know the circumstances, perhaps that replacement PS4 controller is desperately needed for an autistic child who smashed their previous unit against the wall because their life is not "ordered" at present as a result of the closure of the special care unit that they normally attend, and due to their autism, they can't express that frustration in normal ways.

I'd regard that as a critical item if it means the child can cope better with the stress they are under, so in a nutshell, if you're not walking in the shoes of that person, don't judge, as you could be 100% off beam.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Cases haven't increased in several days, pushing malicious lies designed to intimidate the viewing public. Numbers falling off simply isn't worth dwelling on, shameless bias from our national broadcaster.
The 14-day figure rose today, that's all RTE need.

When that starts dropping they'll switch to another dire figure like ICU and deaths.

I know it’s early but I’m calling that reach of the year already.

Ronan Glynn is on RTÉ with Caitríona Perry. The 2 of them are talking like they are acting. It's bizarre to look at. Not an ounce of naturalness between them. Wierd as ****.

At least Ronan Glynn is staying calm and not buying into Caitriona Perrys doom and gloom . Caitriona doing her best to force him into saying the health system is collapsing .

46 deaths unfortunately looks like it might just be the start.

Anecdotally hearing of a backlog in some funeral homes delaying families from holding funerals by a few days.

Anecdotally, I know of someone who died from Covid yesterday being buried tomorrow

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 596 ✭✭✭majcos

So the deaths have been spread out over the last couple of weeks and 2 from last month.

If the deaths are low tomorrow I will be thinking that somebody is playing games with this.

It’s the 12th of January. Likely today’s deaths not added to that figure yet and even if so do 12 days make a few weeks?

Caitríona Glynn on Six One there: "As cases keep rising, we'll discuss the implications with Ronan Glynn..."

One would assume the concern is hospitalisations and ICU numbers rising.....which have been happening for a few weeks now.....
Case numbers falling off, which being good news, is still at a massive number and will hit numbers in hospitals.

If Retail and hospitality were the biggest drivers then how come Dublin isn't absolutely riddled with this? Dublin has been consistently lower out of percentage population for the last 3 weeks.

    Great point. Confusing me too.

It was a very wierd tone that they both took. It was like they were advised by a PR person just before it. I found it very bizarre.

Interesting tweet regarding the latest outbreak figures. Outbreaks reported in schools and pubs in the first week of Jan!
The outbreak figures don't show what's happening now, but are historical, it seems. Very difficult to base any exit strategies on this type of data, I would think?

You can only report on outbreaks that happened in the past. We dont know about the ones this week yet

Consoles are being used for online schooling by a lot of kids. Also online gaming is the only contact kids and teens have with friends. Better that than them all hanging out in large numbers.

    46 Deaths (RIP)
    3,086 Cases.
604 cases are in Galway, 574 in Dublin, 466 in Mayo, 187 in Cork, 138 in Limerick and the remaining 1,117 cases are spread across all other counties

A large outbreak in at least one Public service building in Castlebar is pushing the Mayo numbers up.

There were 146 in ICU yesterday. 158 today. Those deaths are not recent. They need to be more transparent on these things. I'll bet my left bollock that deaths will be below 20 tomorrow.

According to the RTE news 65% admitted to ICU this month are over 65. have you a link?

Data from HPSC 14 epidemiological report publicly published online.

44 are from January. I don't think any of us can know how many deaths there will be tomorrow so not sure the value of speculating tbh.

I found Caitriona Perry bizzare trying to get Ronan Glynn to say its the worst case scenario . Almost like she was wanting it to collapse
Ronan Glynn knew there are sick people at home who don’t need people to show panic .He made sure to reassure that the frontline staff are coping and will look after sick people

Pretty random but just wondering do we know if our president got vaccinated yet, or where does he slot into the level system?

What do you not get? 44 of those deaths occurred in the past 12 days. Families have had to register these deaths. Cut the conspiracy nonsense and just think for a moment about what is involved when a family member dies.

High numbers in Connacht counties Mayo, Galway and Roscommon and the Galway, Mayo hospitals has a lot of covid patients. Connacht normally has the lowest numbers of any province.

have they given the average age of deaths lately? i know it was 82 a while ago

The Irish Times reporting of today's numbers leaves the impression that they are really just reporting this stuff in bad faith now.

Every day the headline contains cases and deaths. Every day. Except today. Today, it's just the deaths. No mention of the cases until you click into it and at that, nothing said about the fact that the cases are down further today.

Also nothing about when the deaths took place. Obviously, it is very sad to learn of another 46 deaths. It's tragic for so many families and may they have comfort and peace.

It's bad enough having to live through this nightmare without being only given partial information by what is supposed to be and used to be a newspaper of record.

It has been like this right from the start, hysterical.

The legislation designating the Aras as a nursing home passed before a Christmas so presumably done at this stage....

Obviously not serious.......I would suspect he will be offered a vaccination when his age group is reached in the plan.

Since his office is 99% ceremonial I would expect he will be vaccinated in accordance with the priority list but top of what ever level he falls into.

Have our current members of the Dail been offered the vaccine?

The office is far from ceremonial. How do you imagine new Dails commence and new governments given their authority?

Not to mention the requirement to sign all legislation passed by the houses of the Oireachtas.

I would consider deaths since January 1st as very recent. If they were now reporting deaths from a few months ago, that would be creating a false impression but 44/46 of the deaths reported today are from 2021 and it is only the 12th day of 2021.

There probably have been more deaths in the last 12 days that have not been captured yet so it’s more likely an under-reported number of recent deaths rather than over-reported figure. I understand some might think on initial listen that all 46 happened today but it takes about two seconds to read the first three sentences after the headline.

Do the cases today broadly match the positive swabs? It would be great if they now correlate.
