Doubt they would reduce the cost if you are still in contract, they get nothing out giving you a reduction.
I might be wrong but if you get an upgrade, I would assume that will restart the clock again so you would be tied in to another contract.
Might be better off buying a phone yourself and trying a lower cost mobile operator?

You're better off buying the phone you want upfront from somewhere and then avail of all the cheap sim only plans which are widely available.

Sounds like a good plan but the phone cost would turn me off doing that. New Samsung S21 could cost something like €1000 upfront

Any sim plans with unlimited data ?

It will still probably work out cheaper in the long run to buy the phone on its own and sign up with 48 or GoMo

Based on what is on the three website
    S20 ultra :
    Upfront Cost of phone 999
    Monthly 34.42 * 24 months
Cost of phone and contract 1,825.08

    From amazon.de
    Phone 889.90 + 14.50 delivery
    GoMo 12.99 * 24 months 311.76
    Total cost 1,216.16

You are basically paying 50% extra over the life of the phone if you go with three.
For contrast an AIB personal loan has an Apr between 4&5% v 50% with three

Virgin currently €5 a month for 6 months, unlimited everything.
Gomo unlimited everything for 12.99 a month for life.
    Three unlimited data €20.
Eir Unlimited data €20 (if you have Eir BB, it's cheaper)

If you are on a PAYG with unlimited data but topping up 20 every 28 days or so to get it, but its not retaining credit after the 28 days (as some new plans aren't) You are better off one of these plans.
