So i am in the same boat regarding physical card.

Really thinking about upgrading to the slate card

You will still get a plastic card. It’s just the colour is called slate. You’d need to go for the metal package to get a card that isn’t plastic.

In the past changing between Irish banks, I've done it all manually. I did it using the switching service once, and not everything was done. It was just as easy to do it all myself and know it was done right.

I used their account switching service and it worked for around 80% of my bills. That was way back at the start in their first or second year of business. So it probably has better support now.

Is there any way to disable certain security features with N26?
I found myself with a smashed phone screen the other day and no access to another phone to put SIM in to.

I tried logging into browser but it sends authorisation to phone, which I couldn't do. I tried changing setting via email, not possible.
I have since looked around settings and it is possible I have missed something glaringly obvious, but I keep missing it. I can't see any setting. It was very frustrating being in a hurry to access money on either it or Revolut and could do neither.
It can be a huge PITA that online banking is tied to heavily to a phone.

All banks have a regulatory requirement to enforce 2 factor authentication as par of the PSD2 European directive.

Holding the actual phone associated to the account is one of the 2 authentication factors, so the feature can’t be disabled.

A question for all N26 users..
Has anyone used an N26 debit card to deposit USD on Etoro and then also withdraw USD from Etoro to the N26 card?
I'm hoping it will work to avoid Etoro conversion fees.

If not - has anyone had a refund from any retailer etc in USD to their N26 debit card without any issues?

    Thanks

I wonder will n26 ever offer the option of lodging cheques via photograph like a lot of banks in the uk offer.

Would be my main reason for having a bricks and mortar bank resolved.

    Otherwise very happy with them.

Never going to happen. N26 would not even know what a cheque is :)

Cheques should be phased out, they are not covered by EU law and now the UK has left the EU we should follow all other EU countries (except FR and Malta) and get rid of them.

Not sure why anyone still uses cheques but if you need to lodge could you pay into your credit card instead of keeping an old school account open?

Cheques are still a thing? Haven't seen one in over 20 years. Not a chance N26 will add support for them, doubt you would even be able to cash a cheque in any bank in Germany.

So, let's say your buying a €5000 or more car from a private person on Done Deal. I'm pretty sure writing cheques are still the accepted way to transfer the funds to the seller unless I'm missing something.

    This too shall pass.

    Cash or bank transfer.

Absolutely no way would I carry a wad of notes for anything above €1000. I'd be a bag of nerves.
Is bank transfer common these days? Can they be done on the N26 app?

    This too shall pass.

I wasn't able to withdraw in USD when I cashed out some work shared before iirc

Now that's intriguing. Say those self service ATMS in BOI/AIB - can I lodge money or cheques directly to their respective Credit Cards? That would solve the problem altogether.

So you deposited USD Ok? At least that saved on the etoro currency conversion. SO diid you get the money out of Etoro onto N26 in another currency ? Or did you have to use something else?
    Was this fairly recent?

    Thanks

Nah I realised after that they don't accept non-Euro transfers, so had to get onto eTrade to change it to Eur on their end (the conversion I was hoping to avoid) before initiating the transfer. This would've been March 2019

Yep, I do that at AIB.

You mentioned eTrade I was asking about Etoro.

When you say N26 don't accept non-Euro transfers - I realise that. But surely they would have to accept a USD refund onto the N26 debit card?
They have to be able to do that (or am I wrong?).

Has anyone had a USD refund on their N26 debit card ?

    Thanks again :)

I moved my current account from BOI to N26.

Kept the credit card with them. And do this for cash and the once yearly cheque that I get!

I moved my current account to N26 last year.
Can I lodge cheques into a PTSB demand deposit account?

Can't see why you wouldn't be able to.

You can, but unless you have an ATM Card for the account you'll need to use the Cash Desk to lodge

If I have a Student AIB account is there any use of me using my N26 account for anything? Or will I just wait until I'm out of college and start using it then? I'm just not sure what it offers to me right now seeing as I have no fees anyway

You might have no current account fees - but if you use the AIB debit card to spend in another currency you will be charged foreign transaction fees.
AIB charge 1.75% (minimum €0.45, maximum €11.00) last time I looked.

There are No such fees on N26 .

Also some better features on N26 -
(not available on AIB app as far as I am aware) such as-
    Instant notification of spending.
Ability to lock card in the app for ATM or online use or contactless use
Ability to Send money to other people n your phone contacts
Ability to set up spending limits

Appreciate it! Is there anything I'd be missing out on by not having a 'traditional' Irish bank account? Issues with future loan or mortgage maybe? Sorry I know this thread is probably full of it but its my last Q I swear haha. Ideally I'd like an N26 and Revolut setup for the future

Yep and that's what I do with BOI, closed everything except credit card and that's where I lodge any cheques using the lodgement machine, same for physical cash should I get any i don't want to keep.

You would be able to show bank statements to any lender that wanted them - so they should have no reason not to lend you.
Mortgage lenders want your business - they shouldn't care where you have your current account .
N26 is a fully licenced EU bank - the same as all the "traditional" ones.
Paying in cash would be your only issue - but who uses much cash these days.
If you get some - just spend it. :)

Tried that form but wont acknowledge any Irish bank unfortunately .Maybe its just for German accounts. Would have been very handy.
