    That wheeze Eamon did there, I thought he was about to turn the briefing into a musical.

    He's blaming the border for not introducing mandatory quarantine period even though the question was about introducing it for travellers from Britain and South Africa.

    Stephen from Newstalk looking for them to accept that opening up hospitality caused this inability to open up schools. Varadkar is talking about vaccination now as his answer for some reason. Saying it's hard to make predictions even though we all f'ckin knew that their opening up hospitality would cause this. Martin is responding about how the new strain has been around since November. I don't understand how that answers the question either.

    He's saying even where restrictions were in place in Kent, the numbers still didn't come down because of the variant. So if that's the case, you can imagine how much worse we're going to have it now because of their irresponsible decisions combined with this new unforeseeable strain. He's now listing all the ways he didn't stick to his own plan.

    He's saying government have been very aligned with public health if you look at it over the 9-month period. Yeah but the period they were most out of line with public health has caused this so this little experiment has failed and they're not accepting any responsibility.

    Blame the variant all you like you absolute failure, this mess we're in is because of them.

    They're digging their own political graves with this conference.

    The stress of it! I can't imagine. I dropped one subject myself for the leaving and just did the 6 exam ones + the others and the time gained from dropping one subject was absolutely massive and made a huge difference to me. I didn't realize it at the time because I thought I was very old and wise but I was still reeling from a bereavement and taking a bit off my plate really helped me


    Ah yeah, it's a very difficult situation, and of course a stressful one for the students. But it's a slippery slope, and if something like that went ahead, I imagine it would be used to argue for a more A-Level approach to exams, which would be a really bad idea. Off-topic, but I would love to see the LC being less rote-learning and more embracing of critical thought and reasoning.

    yeah you could say they could go to the supermarket but that would be overtly punishing the rich people who get a take out coffee every single day because who can afford that that's like 825 quid a year!!! so the government have to protect people who spend 825 quid a year on coffee

    I presume they are all now banned as they are practically the same thing??

    1) Take away points in pubs not allowed?
    2) Take away drinks from restaurants not allowed?
    3) Off licenses closed?
    4) Sale of alcohol in supermarkets not allowed??

    there's no slope and there's no butter on the slope, if there was a slope we could just decide not to put butter on it and if there was a slope with butter we could still just opt not to slide down it and if we slid down it we could always go back up. I mean you can argue slippery slope about literally every change that society ever makes for any reason at any time.

    these are very exceptional school years

    I agree with you about LC in general :) In fairness though, if you saw the education system in some countries you'd be incredibly proud of the relatively amounts of critical thinking in the Irish system. It would be great to be more like Finland but it could also be a lot worse

    Hospitals about to be overwhelmed and biggest worry is takeaway pints? Do people not know that they sell cans in the supermarket for 1 fifth of the price?

    And we are seriously questioning why we are in this disaster?

    I'd just like to point out that I was told this by my friend who is reliable, that we would be in lockdown come the 1st week of January and closed until the end of March.
    I posted the information here some time ago and I have been accused of trolling by a Mod whilst others said I was talking ****, trying to scare people

    The government right or wrongly will be blamed for the xmas episode.

    The mental health of the nation will be comprised like no other time since the pandemic started. I can see real mental health issues down the road.

    In addition, can't see any type of hospitality open before July.

    Unless you are a teacher, SNA, school bus driver etc.. then tough sh1t.

    The virus is rampant, putting 30 young adults in a room and saying to a teacher sure a piece of cloth around your mouth will protect you is not going to wash.

    I do share the frustration with diplomacy slowing things down all the time and driving our cases up again and again though
