Doesn't add up, we're in lockdown, can't be that many essential workers on the roads.

The true is there is zero control. I've NEVER seen a checkpoint since all this began .

I work in education sector+ since Sep once level 3 restrictions introduced when you cant leave county never mind Level 5 I had a check point I had to pass every single day on way to work. During Level 5 some days there was 2 so they are out there.

Well your the one blaming the government, when everyone can see that it doesn't matter if we are level 2,3, 5 or 67 if people don't follow the restriction guidelines.

It's quite clear that relaxing restrictions was populist idiocy

The National lockdown imposed by the good Boris, appears to be the same as our level 5 without the schools...?

The majority of non alcohol obsessed punters will hardly know the difference..

Will it work...? Not without a fear factor

As for us.... The dogs on the street know the school won't open on Monday. Just announce it!

It was more about giving the businesses a bit of a payday after the year they've had.

    Is housing non essential now?

The majority of construction taking place right now is commercial, there's feck all housing being built right now. I've a lot of friends in that game and not one of them are at residential sites. All offices, hotels and data centres. A **** load of data centres actually.

Tony’s lockdown in oct/nov proving very foolish now. There was no way he could expect the country to stay locked down after enduring that ‘to save Xmas’. Incredibly foolish, mistimed the need for lockdown by several months.

    ^^^^

    Can't win.

Lockdown was needed at the time ffs.

Does anyone seriously think that the people would have tolerated a lock down through December? That there would not have been parties. That people would not have visited relatives?

Have a look around the Dublin docklands. Lots of residential going up. Same out in Carrickmines. And commercial property means jobs....

I think there are a lot of essential workers, someone a few pages back gave a list.. let's think

a percentage of people working in banks are still in the office
    car repair
    bike repair
    electricians, plumbers etc.
    everyone working in manufacturing
vets and groomers and their receptionists
everyone working in public transport industry
IT people who do anything for another essential service
anyone who is facilitating other people to work from home
volunteers for essential organizations like Samaritans, Simon community etc.
supermarket workers and anyone else needed to feed all the other groups
    takeaway restaurant staff
    obvious health care roles
dentists, physiotherapists, social workers, some psychotherapists (not all) and anyone else who works in less obvious healthcare roles, the clients of all these people
cleaners for all of the above businesses

and people going home after christmas

Argos open today, how are they essential?

Would you have preferred heading into the Christmas period with a base of ~2000 to start from instead of ~300? Because I don't think it's very likely that the people who demanded Christmas would have changed their tune no matter how sh*t things were. We did very well in November. We did poorly over Christmas.

Do you understand how the vaccine roll out works?

Do you understand the Ireland has one of the highest medical negligence cases in the world and so they need to make sure every thing is done right. Consent forms and what not.

Do you understand there is a limit amount of the vaccine currently available in the whole world.

Blame blame blame the government, if everyone just stayed at home and did what the government, the HSE and all health officials and limit contacts we wouldn't be in this mess. This is the 3rd Lockdown - Did the public not learn after the 2nd lockdown or was it a case that they didn't care and they were going to enjoy xmas regardless of what anyone said

Not really no, There is no info "on how the vaccine will really roll out" just this

    https://www.gov.ie/en/publication/bf337-covid-19-vaccination-strategy-and-implementation-plan/

    Never mind about consent forms

"Do you understand there is a limit amount of the vaccine currently available in the whole world"

Yes, but hasn't the EU bought 2 million doses of Vaccines for republic to get us going, last 2 waiting EU approval, within days it will be passed.

It can indeed but speeded up once Vaccines arrive in port.

Have a look around the Dublin docklands. Lots of residential going up. Same out in Carrickmines. And commercial property means jobs....

I thought commercial property was dead with the WFH bedding in. I know large companies in Galway trying to downsize their office space.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Sure that's a tiny example, the majority is definitely commercial sure isn't that the entire core of our housing problem? Your arguement was originally about housing being affected but if it's about the jobs at stake, that's just tough luck. There's plenty out of work now. If construction is deemed a risk and a potential extender of our lockdown, they should be closed in the same way other sectors have been.

Think it depends where you are, its all housing around here, very little commercial.

How do you know? Even NPHET projections on what Govt did agree did not point to these numbers.

There was fatigue, complacency and many people were letting off steam including people who followed the rules religiously through the year, cancelled holidays.

Jobs (construction and investment), economy, housing, livelihoods. If it is a risk then shut it down but don’t pretend this is a zero sum decision. It is not.

It’s not a tiny example. Plus there is a cycle for construction projects due to limited labour.

It was probably very necessary or that spike that happened in late Oct would have turned into nightmare we have now at an earlier date.

No, I'm just saying exactly what you are. If construction is a risk, then shut it down.
