funny how skipping the last stages of safety precautions you can go faster

Brexit also saw the best immunologists, epidemiologists in Europe go back to the British one.

The tans in fairness have always been world leaders in that field in the last 150 years.

Definitely feels more like March with things changing so much day to day. Not sure how many more restrictions here besides schools closing but will be interesting to see if anything changes over next few days.

So, just hours after Boris Johnson assured us schools are 'safe' and will stay open, he shuts them all.
But only after allowing them to be open for one day so everyone could infect each other & take the virus home to their older relatives.
    This is scandalously bad government.

    That is a great point!

776 in hospital with 70 in ICU

On 28th December there were 359 in hospital with 30 in ICU

Over 100% increase in hospitalisations in a week. Scary. Very scary.

There is now a 20% a day growth, which using the rule of 72, gives a 3.5 day doubling now.

The cart has picked up speed downhill.

And how long would that take?

September I think, maybe November? unless more companies have successful vaccine trials and get them to us in the meantime

3 day doubling was the rate worldwide back in March, it's the default with no measures.... eh... are we sure the new variant isn't very prevalent here?

Boris - the lad that leads at government who are going against the manufactures advice surrounding the two jabs, and instead of doing what the manufactures advise - and give them 3 weeks apart, he is gambling that 12 weeks apart is ok.

You happy for Ireland to take this gamble????

I think their vaccination programme is being ran within the wider context of Brexit. It may work, but it may be a bit feckless and wreckless.

UNBELIEVABLE Croke Park testing centre , 6pm tonight had 25 people queuing inside in the foyer, snaking around to go through after registering, it's a tiny area have been there before, very Unsafe, parents with their kids with them too, not sure if they were all getting tested.

My dad is 87 years old , we were terrified for him and said we would not stay so they brought him straight in. If you did not have covid going in you had a greater chance of having it coming out.

should have kept the queue outside, even get up marquee to shelter people but dont corral them into a small area. I want to complain and raise this Where? Feel really annoyed.

To put this into context I think we had roughly 880 hospitalisations at our peak in April. Things are going to get dicey, we all need to start living underground for the foreseeable. Schools need to shut for one.

There have been lies upon lies in order to make the data reflect the safety of schools. It's malicious and dangerous when the case numbers are low but it's complete negligence and tantamount to actual murder when they're refusing to collect or examine the data in order to scientifically study the spread in schools, at this point. Nolan is an absolute cretin and he has been blowing the government's trumpet whenever needed. He'll be remembered as the Iago of this whole period in Ireland when the numbers are available to the experts.

Nevertheless, it proved possible to reduce numbers in November when schools were open and we have had the most rapid increase in the last two weeks when schools were closed. The smoking gun does not point at schools although they'll have to close now that things have got out of hand.

  • Did I misunderstand or did the presenter on Sky News just confirm the Premier League must now stop?

I hope that's not the case.

Ok thanks, it was posted so wanted to check, have friends and family in the U.K. so wanted to know in case it was worth warning them.

Not sure why it was said that they’d skipped safety checks.

    Final independent review

Well in hindsight it worked out because the US and European countries reviewed it and said it was fine. Gamble paid off and now they can pretend it was the responsible thing to do

They approve them through their own ministry of health, the EU countries have to wait until a single EU authority approves them.

Was same when I went there few months back, had doors open but didn't feel that comfortable at all with people coughing and everything.

So you’re saying that U.K. skipped safety steps before releasing the vaccine! Do you have facts to back this up or are you just scaremongering for fun?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,055 ✭✭✭Fakediamond

The Courts have been continuing to operate, more or less as normal, all those people milling around outside. Generally speaking, people who engage in criminal behaviour are not known for enforcing boundaries!

Think time for me to step away from the wall to wall coverage of this for a day or two.

Wouldn't be an anxious person but it's definitely unhealthy to keep consuming all the bad news.

Be sensible and stay safe folks

The BBC. How is it scaremongering? The vaccine is safe, we know that now. I kept my mouth shut a few weeks ago when it would have been scary for those first people getting it, but now all the info is out

Have a link? The BBC article I just googled says this:
    _______________________________________
All of the work and findings are checked and verified independently.

The Covid vaccine trials have happened at breakneck speed, but they haven't skipped any steps.
    _______________________________________

It’s scaremongering because you posted that the U.K. skipped steps in verifying the vaccine safety.

Now you’re saying you knew weeks ago and kept your mouth shut about it?
