Can I use this as an excuse to claim social welfare? I really don't want to be going into work with all that's going on. It's far too risky.
Probably not unless you can get a sick note from a doctor.

Very depressing. It's increasing so fast.

It's increasing fast because an awful lot of people didn't social distance over Christmas and New Years........or for most of December for that matter. Some are still not socially distancing.

We had COVID-19 positive people go to a funeral that had hundreds at it and hug and kiss loads of people and now loads of people around here have it. And the irony of it is that the funeral was for someone who died of COVID-19.

Another instance down my way was six or seven young lads in a house passing a vodka bottle between them and now five of the seven have the virus.

No shortage of idiots around, that's for sure.

And I'm only adding to it by going into work by mixing with this same type of stupid. I behaved myself but somebody else doesn't, come in and then spread it.

Who were the idiots from all over Dublin that drove out to the Dublin/Wicklow mountains to play in some snow over the weekend?

Well I think there was Tommy, Mick , Jacinta oh and little Joey. Seriously what is the logic behind such a question?

It's what people are doing indoors that is spreading this, despite the stupidity of that kind of behaviour.

Has there been any explanation for the hospital numbers?...

    That makes no sense

    Not really sure.

Need an hour in the office to get work laptop and stuff to wfh. I'd dint have a computer home over the christmas.

He said he will let us know about tomorrow later

It's not really his decision though. If it is not essential work then he's in breach of regulations surely?

    744 in hospital, 65 ICU

24 Hour admission 51(was in the 70's last few days)

Less admission but maybe due to it being the weekend.

Indoors is where the spread is.

"Every single Government source who spoke privately on Sunday did not expect schools to reopen on the week beginning January 11th." Seems inevitable schools will be delayed again. Government owe it to people to be upfront and give enough notice. Norma Foley meeting opposition today. Guess it could be announced on Wednesday or Thursday. https://www.irishtimes.com/news/politics/covid-19-government-fears-public-believes-it-has-lost-control-1.4449324?mode=amp

I don't think weekends necessarily have fewer admissions based on past data. But, anyway, it's only one day so much too early to call a trend.

Not in all cases, I couldn’t get into the park within our 5km yesterday with smallies as it was so full. No parking and the footpaths wedged. So drove 7km to a beach I go to that had 2 other people on it. I was safer ignoring the 5km restrictions than all the people wedged in one spot.

Big stuff like this tends to get out anyway. Given our current trajectory it would be no great surprise to see them pushed out another week.

Only 1 doctor from 1 practice and not sure how many were referred but if this scales up nationwide it's pretty bad https://twitter.com/amymorgangp/status/1346019562278551553?s=19

What are the chances the construction site will be closed? Today is the day most are back after christmas. People coming from all over to sites, I know of one big site that busses everyone to and from the site obviously no windows open and people sitting beside each other.

Wonder if we'll ever hit the 1000 deaths a day stage. Cases are high so deaths will probably skyrocket soon.

Fear mongering or fact? If the stats are true, it's not fear mongering.

    Highly doubt it.
