Can I go out for food or will the army deliver?

A soldier delivering food to my door? The closest I'll get to a tinder date this year,I'll take it.

Thank god the regular seasonal flu is not circulating this year as things would be crazy.

Is there any research around if COVID is suppressing the standard FLU or is it just because it hasn't been introduced from the SH this year?

Will COVID take over as the new seasonal FLU strain going forward, once it continues to evolve over next 5-10yrs and becomes less deadly?

I wish they would announce all backlog cases in the one day if possible... even if it’s 8000 or 9000 get them out of the way . Is that even possible or do they currently even know the back log ?

Should have held back on this weeks daily reported cases and give a weekly number instead today.

Even if our hospitals get completely overwhelmed and RTE announces dozens or hundreds of deaths a day, the sad fact is that there is a certain portion of the population who still won't give a damn about the restrictions.

They should consider naming the people who die on a daily basis - its far too easy to discount "x number of deaths" by saying ah sure it was just some auld one who had underlying conditions.

Would be a different story of we were shown a picture of Mary from down the road

40 dopes. Do they not realize they can paint the town red in a few months when this is gone. Doing this will ensure 2021 is a write off also.

People are too optimistic with talk of summer.

It will be summer 2022 the earliest. Even I'm probably being optimistic with that prediction.

Exactly and the sooner we accept this the better, it's the same for nearly other aspect of life so we need to get on with it and stop moaning like 10 year old girls about something we can't change.

The masks are doing a mighty job on the flu. Not so much Covid. That or the tests are boll1x.

Laughable to read people talking about army enforcement.

Keep your distance, wash the hands, stick on your mask, keep it sensible. It's personal responsibility.

For now we can hope that this virus is kept away from our vulnerable people, keep the head down, focus on getting the vaccine rolled out as quickly as possible.

One of the words of the year for me . (Place is full of 'em.)

Of course we could also term them 'conscientious non-compliers' .

The point is they aren't conscientious though. You can't be conscientious and not value human life and long-term health

They used to do an Ireland Remembers segment before/after the news with pictures and names of people who died. Tbh it used to shock me to see the faces especially some of the younger ones.

I fear it would have the opposite affect and thats why they don't do it, if they released the age profile every death people would become complacent.

Flu wasn't an issue in the Southern Hemisphere winter either, I guess its a combo of masks, handwashing, social distancing etc. and thank God that's the case, a bad Flu season ongoing now with the post Xmas Covid rush doesn't bear contemplating.

One of the reasons why the death rates are lower now is thought to be masks. Lower initial doses result in lower death rates

Agreed. Personal responsibility has been very successful with this current wave.

    Do you know why ?

Ireland's is nearly top in the world for medical negligence cases - the government, the HSE etc want to make sure every i is dotted and t crossed.

What happens when some residents of nursing home or hospitals don't want the vaccine or aren't able to give consent. what do they do if they next of kin is not contactable or wont' give consent.

They have been contacting next of kin since before Christmas.
If uncontactable / disappeared( unlikely but possible ) and vaccination or any other treatment needs to be given, a patient can be made a ward of court and treatment given .

    2m works for flu.

It doesn't for covid according to research.

The vaccine roll out is nothing short of a disgrace at this stage. Ridiculously slow.

This is such an incredibly odd suggestion. Use the names and faces of dead people to scare / guilt people into compliance?

If we're going to go down that road should we do the same for tobacco and alcohol related deaths?

Its OUR fault as a people. OURS. And we now pay the consequences with a lost 6 weeks as we enter 2021. Its as simple as that.

No, some of us did absolutely nothing to catch or spread this at all. Boring as hell but don't act like everyone behaved the same cos they didn't. Some took it seriously, others didn't.

The EU have ****ed up the vaccine supply.

So it will be even later.

I don't understand the price debates going on too long part? Throw whatever money they want at it. There should be no debating on it.

Pointless. There are 15,000 Guards, 10,500 Defence Forces and 5,000,000+ people.

Unless WE, all of us, take the necessary responsibility for ourselves and our families, without our hand being either held or slapped, we are shagged.

But people aren't interested in taking personal responsibility. Eight months of beating the message into people and they still are unable to refrain from being morons. And then you've the conspiracy theorists who will never take any responsibility because they believe there is none to take.

Fine people. Hit them on an increasing scale of fines. Most people don't speed, not because of responsibility but because of the impact points have on their insurance.

The alternative has to be some form of enforcement, even if it's imperfect.
