Happy New Year one and all, here's hoping for a better 2021

Do they have field hospitals on standby? Our hospitals are also going to fill up fast, so we don't really have ability to take patients on.

ETA: Hopefully we will also have ability to fastly deploy field hospitals should we need them.

Dublin was absolutely eerie this evening, felt reminiscent of March last year. Not a sinner about. Was spooky to think it was NYE. Everyone certainly taking this Level 5 seriously by the looks of it.

Or..... nothing is open and it's miserable out. Why would you expect to see anyone? What could they be doing out?

I’m pretty sure the DUP have been expecting the Republic to take their overflow cases.

They need to soundbites of the republic’s refusal for political ammunition.

I'll second that. Fair play to Shane Hastings.

    What's your excuse, igCorcaigh?

    Missed that trick.
Should have been more active to be honest :(

Good read, France isn't messing around:

'France has mobilised 100,000 police and gendarmes to break up New Year's Eve parties and enforce a curfew from 8pm to 6am.

Half of the metro lines in Paris will also be closed in the evening to discourage gatherings.

France has had two national lockdowns and bars, restaurants and cultural attractions will remain shut into January.

The country has the largest number of COVID-19 cases in Western Europe.'

As in between the two doses or having a 12 week gap in vaccinating people generally?

Doesn't appear to be supply issues, more so that they want as many people to get the first dose and have partial protection but for Pfizer they're going against what they recommend, Pfizer & BioNTech hasn't been tested at that interval on a widespread basis.

Pfizer didn't sound happy in a press release.

As for AstraZeneca there are suggestions that the duration of the second shot from the first might not be that important, more so just that you get it in a relatively small timeline, but MHRA said they've data that isn't publicly available yet.

So The HSE have said the system was an old one and not fit for purpose . So why the bloody hell did they not update it

It wasn't that long ago that many state services were having to pay Microsoft a significant annual premium for continued extended support on Windows XP because they were unable to migrate their systems on to newer and supported versions of Windows.

I wasted an hour earlier trying and failing to validate a Mygovid, but the software is a disaster, and after a number of attempts, using different browsers, I gave up, and if that's an example of the sort of garbage that's deemed acceptable by the state service providers, it's little wonder that they are in the complete mess that they are in now.

Makes me wonder if they are using some sort of ancient system that was cloned off an old 80 column punch card system that then relies on all manner of stand alone sort routines and the like to produce a result, probably running on stand alone computers with no networking capability, using a version of Excel that's about 10 years out of date.

Cynic in me says that they've blown a 64K record file size limit somewhere, and can't fix it until the consultants return from their holidays on Jan 4, as there's no one in house with the capability of fixing it.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Apparently some frontline staff are furious because they didn’t consent to having that gap between doses when given the first dose .

Well its essentially a trial, Pfizer released a statement saying they've given their dosing recommendations based on their trial & it isn't 2nd dose within 12 weeks, but that it is up to each regulator.

There were reports last week that they would have no Pfizer supplies available from some date in January until mid March,

If it works it will be " hey we did it our way!" Again.
If it doesn't it will be a bloody disaster , like so much in the UK this year .
There is no way we will be doing this , I hope.
Was told my 2nd jab was the week of the 18 th which is 3 weeks gap.

Interesting, Canada will require air travellers aged five and above to test negative for Covid-19 before arrival, starting 7 January.

UK is like a gambler, they lost all their money and don't have a pot to piss in, so they have to make some risky bets and hope they can at least break even.

So if close contacts are now not being tested then their close contacts have no idea if they are in fact close contacts of a positive case ?

Must’ve been a lot of hospital discharges today, 8am 491 in hospital; 8pm 476 in hospital. A small positive on an otherwise grim day for numbers.
