My auntie was in close contact with a confirmi positive case. She doesn't know what to do in terms of getting a test. She said the only option she has is to pay €250 at the beacon hospital?

She said the HSE are uncontactable all day.

Did she contact her own GP? That is how tests are arranged if you do not hear from contact tracing. I'm hearing that it is taking contact tracing days to contact confirmed close contacts at the moment.

It sounds like she won't be getting one now anyway and will instead be told to self isolate for 14 days.

Her only options are a private test or just isolate for 14 days and call her GP if she gets sick

It seems now HSE won't be arranging it and advise is to self isolate for 14 days and if symptomatic to contact GP who can arrange test on that basis.

Advice from now is to restrict movements for 14-days, she won't get a test if she isn't experiencing symptoms.

Still waiting for someone to explain Europe's cowardice and why we did not just close everything down bar actually life-essential necessities for 3 weeks to completely eliminate the virus and return life back to normal? What was required was men with guns outside doors, men with guns on the borders. Complain and cry to me all you want about your rights for 3 weeks, when the alternative is this year-long hell of lockdowns and restrictions? Whoever prefers 1 year+ of lockdowns over 3 weeks of house arrest is completely off their heads and hasn't seen the true suffering of these restrictions. Yet Europe has firmly chosen the former. I do not get it. I really do not.

So you want someone on Boards to explain inter governmental decision making at an EU level? Are you sure you’re in the right forum. Surely contact Ursula the Commission president perhaps she may be able to answer. I suspect no one here can.

Your Auntie is now being asked to isolate for 14 days and if has symptoms contact her GP. Not to contact the HSE or her GP as the system is overwhelmed and they are no longer testing close contacts.

She has to restrict movements. No need to pay for a test, just lockdown.

Close contacts are just being told to restrict their movements for 14 days from contact with the positive case because that's what they'd be told to do if they tested positive anyway.
Contact the GP for a test if you develop symptoms.

As I expected. When you have experience of kids at home and working from home at the same time, then feel free to comment on my situation. Thanks.

You're just agreeing with his point

    I don’t have kids

I work for a global multinational and colleagues in Germany , China, France all say the same.

They need the schools open to send their kids so they can work from home in peace.

You are pretending it’s about education lol

At least be honest with yourself that it’s nothing to do with education. You require a babysitting service so your conference calls are not interrupted.

Such pontification. You haven't a clue chap.

Are they advising close contacts to just restrict movements? Surely that could cause further cases.

You admitted yourself that you actually need the school open to be used as a baby sitters so you can work from home.

You fit in perfectly to my exceptions of the reason people don’t want the schools closed.

    Thanks :)

Can one get paid something if that happens? No test, no nothing, just isolating?

The swabs are already processed. Positive swabs have already been through the lab and results released. Those patients would also be contacted in a timely manner to maintain the quick turnaround time.

Where the "backlog" comes in is the reporting of cases by the HPSC to the DOH. Maybe they are struggling to authorise and verify all these cases. Clerical staff likely not working 24/7 or maybe not enough of them to keep up with the service.

Apologies, what I meant by processed was by the HPSC, as I understand it the labs run the tests and then tell the HPSC "These swaps were positive, these were not detected" and the HPSC then processes that to collate the numbers of positive swabs, generates a new case, informs the patient, informs contact tracing and so on.

My question was more so if the HPSC is only notifying ~1,600 cases to the DOH, does that mean they've only processed 1,600 of the swabs and informed the respective patients they're positive for covid, or are those people automatically informed by the labs of a positive result and the HPSC only inform the DOH and contact tracing teams?

Would you say the same to a healthcare worker?

    Or are they all childless?

Time to get the Navy back with popup test centres.

Thanks guys. I saw Holohan on RTE shortly after my other post updating us on the new 14 day quarantine orders.

    I'll let her know.

Maybe we'll find out that it is really only symptomatic cases that have been spreading it all along.
If you're symptomatic you can still get a test.

You would hope so on the basis of public health guidance, but I don't know for sure.

It’s blatantly obvious keeping schools open is not about the education.

To pretend it is, is not being honest.

That’s not a logical comparison. If I told someone with COVID they were just moaning about being ill then absolutely anyone would be right to tell me to BTFO. Accusing parents of just wanting a babysitting service for their kids without any experience of the myriad issues the come with having children out of school is not an opinion worthy of listening to.

If you're a close contact, is there any point getting tested with the whole system collapsing?

    The boy who cried wolf.

No, they were rightfully worried about what is happening today happening back then.

There was a wolf, they beat it with lockdowns before, the problem is now the sheep are inviting the wolves to their NYE parties
