This was always expected unfortunately, no surprise, especially over Christmas.

Gotta ride it out for the next few weeks and hopefully numbers go down.

I don’t think that’s quite right until yesterday evening nobody expected them to keep the schools closed.

    No one expected 4000+ swabs

No one expected a new variant.

Who are these insightful people I’d like to know them.

It's going to take them a while to realise they need at least a month of total lockdown to get us back on track and not this half arsed rubbish they came out with yesterday or a couple of weeks ago. The schools, air and ferry ports bar freight and essential workers, construction, hardware etc... the whole thing.

Also do their upmost to restrict traffic at the border bar essential. If i can't go 5klms from my house then you most certainly shouldn't be able to cross a border from a country that has completely refused to take this seriously.

Talk of if they had to they'd be sending 50k close contacts forward for testing and its not possible.

Yeah it seems pretty clear that the system cannot cope with demand. People can't get tests as it is.

Hopefully by mid January, we will have hit a peak of this wave! This will pass!

Irish Independent reporting that two thirds of deaths in December linked to outbreaks in Care Homes + Hospitials.

Ffs I'm sick of this. NPHET + government have learned sweet fa from 1st wave.

Lecture, lecture, lecture all time and blame blame blame all of general population and all along nothing has changed still sh%tshow in hospitials and care homes.

When you get out of control widespread community spread, it's impossible to keep it out of care homes and hospitals.

Close contacts no longer being tested. System has collapsed it seems.

    https://twitter.com/rtenews/status/1344683937487065090

What a disaster. Imagine the number of close contacts that may have tested positive were they given a test, and the people they could potentially have infected (who won't be contacted because there's no actual positive result to deem them close contacts). Not good.

Anyone know if they'll test close contacts currently in the system? My family and I are due to be tested 2nd or 3rd, haven't got appointment yet. My mother was scheduled for testing(close contact) yesterday but didn't see the text until this morning so was re-referred by GP today. Is she not likely to be tested now?

No she wont be tested. A mates wife and 3 kids are positive,He requested a test and was told to assume he has it and isolate fore 14 days. They are only testing those with symptoms now.

The pope said its ok for catholics to get the vaccine even though it contains tissue from aborted feteuses...what would we do without those wonderful scientists creating vaccines from human life...now thats a real miracle
You can always refuse the vaccine if and when it is offered to you. Clearly you have no issue using technology which contains parts most likely mined by children in Africa. I do love the double standards of some.

NPHET are both holding back cases so that they can add them in later on and have a whopper amount of cases when they are announcing restrictions or just to scare people and also holding back cases so they aren't too high so they can justify keeping the schools open. Some logic that.

Glad journalists are challenging the Governments angle that this surge is all down the new variant, and not their defiance of the NPHET December advice

Is that the guy who launched his own inquisition yesterday badgering other posters but it was ok because he had a bad day? Is that the Tony you are referring too?

    They don’t need schools open.

They need care services open for the children of people who work in essential service.

    School is providing this.

The issue is that many others want to send their kids to school so they can have a break.

How in fecks name do they not know. Even a basic stocktaking programme can advise you of stock in stock out. HSE doing their best to destroy what ever remaining confidence the public have in them.

People are only tested once now, no retests for testing negative. I don't anyone gets tested twice anymore?

Not true, one of members on panel didn't know, Colm Henry did

So how many have been given doses of the vaccine?

That's it yeah. Just out of curiosity, have you tried working from home while simultaneously caring for and educating multiple children?
