Will NPHET and the HSE start updating us now ever day to tell us how many vaccinations they’ve done, even every week?

Not a hope. There is no way they will leave themselves open to criticism like that.

    Same as every country so.

Doesn't matter at this stage, it's rampant regardless.

Vaccine is the only way out of it.

Why continue with their daily statements on cases so as its clearly incorrect.
Why not just publish the following as it can actually be measured
    - Daily hospital admissions
    - Daily icu admissions
    - No in hospital
    - No in ICU
    - No of 1st dose vaccinations administered
    - No of 2nd dose
    - No of considered immune

The HSE covid dashboard on swabs. It doesn't always line up with case numbers. Professor Nolan is talking about it at the moment.

"4000+ tests to be confirmed from last few days"

confirmations are delayed because system is overloaded

Just to chip in on the mental health topic, just this morning the gardai came to my apartment building at the scene of a suicide, a man in his 30s, on the floor below me. He lost his job apparently, that's the third suicide I have heard of by chance in December alone. (One other being in the same apartment building 3 weeks ago, the other was my work's HR manager's husband). Anyone downplaying the mental health implications of this lockdown should have a hard look at themselves. I'm lucky enough to not have experienced any friends or family members taking the final step but I can't imagine a worse scenario for a family.

I don't think anyone is downplaying it, just saying that allowing covid to spread would be much worse in the end.

HPSC system unable to handle the volumes of reported cases. System appearently wasn't built to handle 2 or 3k cases reporting each day... wow

    4k backlog

Backlog caused by huge amount testing positive after Christmas which overwhelmed the system. 4000 positive tests to be confirmed.

So some of those poisituve swabs are from retested people who test positive more than once?

Prof Nolan just said there is probably a backlog over 4000 cases still to be reported

From now on, or soon enough, case numbers don't matter anymore. It's out of control.

The swabs need to be confirmed as cases - some can be duplicates, but they expect approx 4k additional cases than what has been reported. Also said figures will be very high over next week or 10 days as those swabs are converted to cases.

There or thereabouts. Today and tomorrow at least.

We have at least another seven days of worsening numbers, so we're better off preparing ourselves for that rather than being shocked or appalled when it is. Every single day from now to 8th January is likely to be worse than the one before.

At 16% positivity we've effectively started to lose a sense of where we are. Rates may top out here even though the actual number of infections is way higher.

    Testing and tracing has collapsed.

The only thing we can do now is sit and wait.

Stay at home, fastidiously, at least until the middle of the month. You've done it a number of times in the last year. You now know that 3 weeks in the house and a walk every day is not that difficult, and goes by pretty quickly. If your boss tells you to come into the office and you don't need to be there, tell him to fvck off.

So after ridiculing me over 2 weeks ago for suggesting circa 3k cases per day by January you are now admitting that my estimation was indeed accurate?

At this stage I'd go as far as to say you underestimated it and were overly optimistic :(:(

We're now comfortably into the zone of 4,000-5,000 cases a day, with it likely to deteriorate over the next 5-10 days before it starts to improve.:(

    Looking at the table above.

Monaghan, Louth, Donegal, Cavan - all border counties but there's no restrictions on crossing into the 6 Counties.

Limerick - visitors to the area for Christmas

Wexford - knock on effect from events earlier in the month.

Best case scenario is cases peak in next 7-10 days time and 1000 people in hospital. Worst case scenario is 1500-2000k in hospital, described by Nolan as untenable.
