I cant see schools open again until at least March.

They will probably just let LC students come back till then.

They were saying up til yesterday that the schools wouldn't be closing.

Donnelly said that schools were safer for children on the radio yesterday.

    So was he waffling?

Nope, I would reckon they just realised what is about to hit us.

Massive u turn from the government on their schools policy.

    Not really.

Cases are off the scale, it makes sense now.

Didn't when they opened in September as cases weren't off the scale.

    Quite simple actually.

    0% chance of this happening.

    They'll open on the 11th.

Let’s be honest. They haven’t a notion what they’re doing and they’re making it up as they go along. Who knows what the next few months will bring.

So is every government. That’s what happens during a once in a century situation. They’re having to react to things because there are so many unknowns. I don’t envy them one bit.

No, they have probably spent the afternoon with Tony scaring the ahite out of them

No way are they closing schools without NPHET recommending it

I wonder will they close construction?

I honestly think it would be a bad decision to close school , during the first lockdown it was fine , I didn’t see any kids mixing with other kids but since we opened everything back up , everyone of the kids and pre teens are out in groups mixing together it certainly doesn’t feel like a lockdown. If kids are in school at least they have a mask and hand sanitizer, hanging out in the housing estates not one kid have I seen wearing a mask during all this.

My 16 yr old daughter said less than half her class are wearing masks since october..they just refuse

I would imagine they'll mirror the schools.

Whatever about secondary schools the decision to close primary schools beggars belief.

wouldn't be too sure on that - UK moving in same direction, consideration of closing schools, with practically everthing else closing, if cases continue to rise they'll have nothing else to close to reduce cases!

What makes you so certain? U have a habit of stating your opinion as a fact or an infallancy throughout this thread. Stinks of bull**** tbh.

Wearing masks in schools obviously not enough.

You cannot state that as a matter of fact.

Kids won’t mind, an extra week (so far) to hang out with their friends.

Its madness to open open schools .children can be carriers and spread it to elderly..I see children gathered in large groups plus by leaving them open its allowing people to move around then .ie parents collecting them. Any one that says otherwise are fools

The hse seemed to be suggesting that at this level of infections that contact tracing is beyond them.

I’m aware of nurses tied up in this. Should they not be released to support the vaccine rollout?

The schools aren't going to stay closed until March. The government are not going to put people out of work again for another 2 months.

Even INTO asked for only until the 11th Jan.

It is an extra couple of days. This is almost a nonstory. Can we get a grip on reality and calm the outrage.

Possible but you can't be certain on that.

They themselves have no Idea what the next month will bring. Things have changed a lot in Europe and here, Britain in the last few weeks.
