Some difference between Smith and Aspinall
Aspinall 2-0 down against a lad throwing 106 ave and 86% on the doubles
perfectly entitled to roll over but showed grit and determination great scoring and finishing to drag himself back into the game
Ok, Waites missed match darts but because of the pressure applied by Aspinall
    Great player ,

Smith on the other hand, 2-0 down beating himself up etc.etc...
Destined to be a journeyman pro, will make lots of money no doubt but big titles no chance

Smith has serious issues with himself when he is playing poorly

    He beats himself
    He sulks
He doesn't seem to have that constant winner/ruthless mentality

Darts is such as a mental game as a skill game

Smith should really get a mind coach or some sort of support to help him on that front

If you want to be the best in any sport you've to surround yourself with the best people /team whatever is needed

It's easy to dislike him because he becomes 'a pity case' in front of the camera and beats himself up

He's a very laid back character Lowe

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,651 ✭✭✭US2

I don't get why people hate smith. Yeah he bottles it and sulks, I feel sorry for him. Always said once it clicks for him he will dominate every tournament but I'm starting to think he has too many scars now, he may never click.

Got few pound of Lowe anyway delighted, I'm a massive fan of his, he has the perfect attitude for darts. I'm sure he'll win something sometime

    Great shout!

Michael Smith would do well to listen to that interview
    He'd learn two important things
One he's giving his opponent a serious advantage with his muttering and signs of frustration
And two he should concentrate like Jason Lowe

I think people don't take to him because he's always hyped up (by sky) at the start of every tournament as a potential major winner but hasn't done it even though he's been on tv for 8 years now. We already have had Aspinall, Van den Berg, Price, Gurney and Jose de Sousa win Majors in that time and Smith always seems to lose tamely like tonight

I agree with Justin on quite a few things. Justin can be a decent contributor on here.

Justin doesn't help himself however. Every person on here can engage with eachother in a civilized manner regardless of differing opinions.

If Justin doesn't like ONE thing you say, it's a problem.

He is a terrible, negative identity on these forums IMO. I honestly think that if not trolling, there is something deeply wrong with him and he probably needs help.

Two stand out games in the next round for me, featuring players in good form
Ratajski vs Whitlock - winner plays the winner of Snakebite v Clemens
Jose de Dousa vs Merv King, again two players in v good form, winner plays Gerwyn price or Dolan

I hear VvdVoort complaining about having to stay in the UK in a hotel, says he's gonna practice like a demon
