To be expected. Measures reduce numbers so reducing measures will increase numbers but we still have a bit of give for Christmas. Lockdown in January again then by the looks of it but we all knew that was happening.

So let loose let the cases and maybe death rise

They won’t be unfortunately which is why January will be so grim

Who said that? You're obviously one of the many still wound up in it all, I was the same myself. 400 odd cases is nothing, we can allow for the restricted Christmas that everyone has in store thanks to our early reaction in November. That's what we did it for and now is the time to reap the reward during our economys boom month.

22 in laois , anyone any idea if that an outbreak in one location. Seems high.

Big outbreak in one school and a few in a couple of other schools. There will probably be more in the next few days if the students infected their families

Wait for the swab data tomorrow, we won't know until then. They should report swab data every day, not case data. The case data is far too erratic

Apart from the one day that had a error in reporting the daily case loads has been between 240 and 330 over the last few weeks. Can wait for tomorrow for the certain number but its clear today's number includes a big load of backlog cases.

I passed my pals house last night his wife works in our local general hospital as a cleaner.

His yard was packed with cars I think it was their 23yr old some birthday.

    Anyway each to their own.

On another note I read earlier where scientists are staying that even with vaccines Covid will be around for all of 2021 and social distancing and mask wearing will be for all of 2021 also.

Not all of it but they are telling us that so we don't burn all of our masks in January!

In a lot of ways, I don't think January will be as dismal as other years, unless we are in lockdown again. Many have saved a big pot over the last while, with no commuting costs, and nowhere to spend anything or go anywhere. Pent up demand that won't be satisfied with a more subdued Christmas than normal for most really.

I do realise that not everyone is in the same boat, but they rarely were.

A lot of gigs were cancelled during 2020 and some were deferred to 2021. What is this going to mean for deferred gigs? Will gigs the go ahead or could they go ahead with reduced capacity?

Donegal very high still. I know people keep blaming Derry numbers being high but at what point does it come down Donegal folk not taking the required precautions?

People have been predicting "grim" scenarios for for 7/8 months at this stage, yet those scenarios never seem to really materialize. I assume it will be the same with the latest predictions for January.

I wonder will he still be your pal when he finds out you've turned into a Covid snitch.

As for 2021, most of us will be getting back to normal and enjoying ourselves. But you can keep wearing a mask and social distance as much as you want.

I thought level 5 was pretty grim personally.

And the idea of having to do it all again is pretty grim too.

429 from where? Even with that inflated daily number we still finished the week with less cases this week than last week. Half the amount of weekly deaths reported and nearly 40 less in hospital than last Sunday.

No I am not 1 of those and I have no problem with around 400 cases when the country open up. However what I am not okay with is people go well it is going to go to Level 5 anyway so lets just let loose.

Then anyway we can b$%^h and moan and claim King Tony is having a great time when it happens.

Who know what maybe if we have cop on and be responsible and do what we are meant to do which is not that hard then maybe we might surprise and keep cases level rather then the cases we were getting before now. Then we can keep stuff open lets people work and not start to overwhelm things again and maybe have a case not to go to Level 5

    Just a thaught

Worst case scenario, cases will start to rise and eventually hospital numbers will rise a bit.

We’ll freak out as always and go into lockdown. It won’t help much as public support continues to drop.

We’ll hopefully start jabbing the elderly quickly and the “crisis” fizzles out by spring.

His repeating the same mantra is of no use to anyone . Eventually people can’t hear it as its like white noise in the background
A bit of positivity when its needed and a bit of a change of the mantra might help

When you look at many European countries and the Christmas they are heading into, it could of easily been the same here if he had not been concerned prior to the last level 5 lockdown.

As you're entitled to do of course but this type of response to his comments has become fairly repetitive ironically enough. NPHET praised young people and country in general lately so not as if they're being negative for the sake of it.

Wasn't expecting such high numbers today and two weeks before Christmas. January will be grim if high numbers continue.

    Next two weeks are crucial.

System is on brink of collapse etc etc

I was talking specifically about Tony not NPHET in general . I found Ronan Glynn a much better communicator .
