Termites, and The Works were both part of the Savoy.

Termites then moved to the Globe which had Le Chic lap dancing club in the basement.

Surprised no one mentioned Boogie Wonderland in The Theatre Royal!

Didn’t Termites go on in the Theatre Royal for awhile aswell, can’t remember if that was between the Savoy and Globe

The first time I went to termites it was in downstairs in the old Cruises hotel, that was then demolished to make way for Cruises street and it moved to the Savoy on Bedford row. Great times in there!

From what I can recall it was the Termites located on Bedford Row I last attended during Rag Week of 1995 in what became known as the Black Russian night. Ended up on a friend's couch the following morning with absolutely no recollection of how I got there. Hard to believe where the intervening quarter of a century has vanished to.

Love the 088 phone number on the tropics card- they were all analog at the time and could be easily tapped.

Only 6 digits after it as well!

To the lads that were here in the early Nineties, The Globe would be where Wiseguys cocktail bar was on Cecil Street.

It became a gaming bar in the early 2000's similar to what Level up is now.

Did someone forget The Works and the place which was a king of strip club downstairs, but was a nightclub as well. (Not the High Stool)

Roughly around the same time we had our final year exam celebrations and ended up in Termites when it had moved to the old theatre up near the Social Welfare office now. Some spot but between a mixture of advancing years and hazy memory does anyone recall a car (a VW Beetle I think) out in the courtyard/smoking area as a prop of some kind? Apologies if it’s a figment of my drink addled recollection of the time.

The nightclub in the Glentworth hotel was called the “Aero Club” midweek and was a student night iirc...
Think at the weekend it had all together “another dimension 😂😂” edge to it if you know what I mean !!!
Long way back in time alright
    Halcyon days!!!

That doesn't ring a bell but that certainly doesn't mean it's not an accurate recollection. I'd say I was only ever in Termites twice and one of those involved a complete memory erasure courtesy of Rag Week. Before six friends and I went out we had polished off a couple of slabs of 330ml Two Dogs in one of the flats beside the laneway adjacent to Mike and Katy's chipper on the opposite side of the road from the Old Stand. After a few pints of lager in Larry Murphy's we decided to hit Termites where Black Russians were ordered and downed with apparent gusto. The rest of the night is a total blank but I somehow ended up back in the flat ironically nicknamed the Palace only to recall that later on that day I'd signed up for the yard of ale and the stretcher competition where five of us would consume as many pints in as many pubs and try and make it back to the college first. Some week!

McGregors, shiver runs down my spine. Looking back that place was manky but my young head didn't care for anything other than getting wasted back then.

These flyers are from the mid to late 90’s I’d say.

In fairness the price of Costello's didn't go up to much over the years

Anyone remember when this was The James Joyce ?
Owned by Brendan Murray (who was running The Pink Elephant, Savoy, etc at the time).

All the way back in the early to mid 80's ;)

Anyone recall Dizneyland for those into the alternative music scene which took place late 1994 in the Royal George? I've a flyer somewhere dating from 30/11/94. Among the first five songs played were Sepultura's Refuse/Resist and Pantera's Walk. Place was absolutely mobbed and the dance floor wasn't for the squeamish when Killing in the Name was aired. Sad to think that venue has long since been demolished. Judging by the memories associated with the place a preservation order wouldn't have gone amiss.

The Three Degrees might disagree with you strongly on that point. However at the risk of getting the proverbial arse sued off me by the Murray estate, I think I should probably drop the story there. :D

The first time I recall going to Dizneyland was when it was held in Docs. The regular Docs bouncers didn’t really know what to make of it.

The one held in Tropics had Dizneyland Chapter II on the flyer so Docs obviously served as the first venue in Limerick. One DJ was from London and the other from Chicago. I was only starting to discover the alternative music scene at the time so was very appreciative of the efforts taken to make my friends and I feel right at home. Not too many times I can recall moshing on the Tropics dancefloor unless Bohemian Rhapsody was being aired.

I must ask the brother tomorrow. He managed there back in the early 90's.

It was The Supremes (you weren't far off the mark) . A moment of madness on his part to be fair.
Just shows the influence he had in the Limerick entertainment scene that several months in Shelton Abbey didn't really affect his standing.

On to another memory. Who remembers 'Leeson Street". Corner of Mallow St and Pery St. Down in the basement. Renovated at great expense to look like a real Leeson Street Club. It was a wine-bar/night club that kicked off after Ted's etc closed for the night and went on until 6am. Lasted about 3 months before the Guards finally shut it down.

Ha.. Remember "Leeson Street " well, I lived in a flat with 2 lads during College right across the road from it on Upr Mallow st. We had some wild nights in there that usually ended up across in our place.
    Guards raided it most weekends.

Did it even last 3 months? I think it was shut down after about 6or 7 weeks.
The city centre badly needs a student population again.
When SOPs was located up across from Bobby's the town was always heaving with life.

It was just a figure of speech, I'm not really afraid of libelling him. It's some of the other fukcin' lunatics still walking around you'd be wary of though :p

Oh really? It was The Supremes? I mean it must be coming on 40 years now since the (cough) "incident" so my own memory is a bit sketchy on the whole thing. But The Supremes and not The Three Degrees? Jesus that's like comparing Dickie Rock and The Beatles. God forgive me but my estimation of the man just tripled! :D

Obviously I'd have absolutely no idea how much money The Supremes would get for a show, but I'd hazard a guess the number of people you seem to think you can shove through the door in a nightclub in Limerick on a Tuesday night isn't going to cover it.

Like, you "could" get Lady Gaga to play in Dolans. Theoretically all you have to do is pay her. How to get 150 people to pay for 30,000 tickets might be something you'd need to hash out before you go writing any cheques though. It was probably the same with The Supremes.
