Got TOTGS Diego Carlos, Joe Gomez, Busquets and IF Trippier so from division rewards (not even sure what rank) so happy with that

With RTTF Kounde getting an upgrade I might change up the team and go with a French/Brazilian mix

Not a bean in terms of usable cards from D4/R3 untradeable rewards - 4 x gold jumbo and 2 x mega packs I think.

I’d have hit rank 1 pretty easily in the end given my score and amount of games left, but didn’t have the time to do so.

Just stocking up the club for any “good” promo SBC’s and first owner cards for Icon Swaps now so I did get a few 82’s-84’s which will help for same.

So I took:

Then decided to throw them all into the FUT Champs Premium Upgrade SBC for a nice 86+ rated player.

Options:
87 Sommer(GK)
86 Mahrez
86 Parejo

So after all that I end up with a player who couldn't even make my bench. Absolutely zero point in doing an SBC unless its for a guaranteed player. Guess i'll use him in the Joao Felix SBC at some point.

This guy. Came up in both of my red picks, but no I chose two slightly less useless picks. Then comes in in my WL league packs, thankfully tradeable so he goes straight to the transfer list. But not to be discouraged, Reynoso had one more chance to make the club, my untradeable Rivals packs, where he appeared not just once but twice!

Feel he deserves an appearance or two for his effort :pac:

Ok, he actually fits in my squad now.
I’ve taken out Gelson Martins and Renato Sanches for Wijnaldum and Salah, brings Ronaldo down to 8 but I can live with that and yes I know I can get Deulofeu and Llorente on better chem by changing their position.

I also have Ferland Mendy and sometimes play him with Varane switched to LCB but don't find much difference between him and Roberston.

Having sold a duplicate Mendy and Renato Sanches I find myself with a little under 950k coins.

Would appreciate some recommendations on who to buy to shore up this team. Am I better picking up say a Keane Icon and a.n. other or campbell for defence to replace Varane for chemistry. It's my first season playing FUT so I'm way behind the curve on the right way to go about squad building.

Full disclosure...I'm rubbish at the game. Even with this squad I'm bouncing around in Division 9. It's almost a waste of players tbh, though not as much as the guy with messi, fati, 2 icons, van dyck and Allison that I played yesterday and beat 6-2

moving Martial to CDM and Fabinho to ST will give you better chem for Varane.
Also if you play Mendy at LB that will boost it as well. You could also play Lloris instead of De Gea as well.
Varane is amazing in the game..the amount of last minute ai tackles he has made for me is incredible.
I'd put the 900k then into a better striker.

for example, is it worth more to use the coins to complete the herrera and felix sbcs and work towards a la liga team (with ter stegan, fati, mendy, varane, williams, alba) and those two I'm probably nearly there for a really strong la liga squad

Martial as a cdm, really? I saw a guy with Fred as ST the other day..does it not really mess up your gameplay when they are so out of position?

you set a custom tactic that you switch to then where it puts him back at ST.
This gives you full chemistry then for that player.

For starters, your back 4 needs some work, you say you have Ferland Mendy? Use him and Varane beside each other, they perfect link to each other so that will help you on chem. Get rid of Laporte, he's too slow and you'll just keep getting caught on counters, try Joe Gomez. I'd play Ake over Laporte even!

Do you play that formation in game or do you switch it up? If not you should look into player instructions and in game formations the 4231 is very popular.

Iago, if you’re set on Premier League I would definitely play Ake over Laporte.

Whilst their overall rating has a huge gap, Ake is a top 3 Premier League CB, IMO. He fits the FIFA meta much more than Laporte who is simply too slow to use.

If you have Mendy, definitely use him as LB with Varane beside him. Mendy - Varane - Joe Gomez - Walker/Semedo seems to be the meta back four at this stage, but if you don’t have the coins you could get away with Ake instead of Gomez until you can afford him. Sorry just saw you have a lot of coins, editing:

Ederson is brilliant but for chemistry purposes you could get Lloris who is also very good and links to Varane (both French) and Ake/Gomez (same league).

I would also advise doing what Mr Moon has suggested and looking up some custom tactics which you can change to in-game with the switch of a button. NealGuides on YouTube is excellent, and if you try a few formations you’ll hit on one you like. 4-2-3-1 is probably the most balanced.

With the coins you have I’d suggest an in-game formation something like the below:

Lloris

Mendy - Varane - Gomez - Walker/Semedo

Kante - Allan

Firmino

Mane - Rashford - Moura

Kante will cost you around 350k but is worth every penny. He’ll also give you another link to Varane (French). Mane will cost around 260,000 and is one of the best players I have used this year. Firmino is down to 23k now which is a complete steal. He’s so agile and the ball sticks to his feet. Allan is basically pennies in relative terms. Walker is 80k but Semedo is only around 5k. There’s not a huge difference between them.

For instructions - full backs on stay back while attacking and conservative interceptions to stop them getting caught out of position. Kante on stay back while attacking, cut passing lanes and cover center. Allan on balanced everything apart from cover center. Wide players on get in the box for crosses, everything else on balanced. Firmino and Rashford I can’t remember off the top of my head but I will check

You would probably even have enough coins to get Rashford’s IF (650k) with the change if you sold his gold card and/or a few others that you won’t be using.

You won’t be in division 9 for too long with the above changes.

its an utter joke this year anyway, seems to be quite easy to build a very good team which means upgrading your team now requires a lot of coins. in previous years it would be after Christmas before you would have the top rated gold cards. back then the cards on sbcs/objectives were a real boost and fitted straight in your team. now the best and most expensive sbcs/objectives are barely worthwhile and might look nice on the bench. It also means TOTW cards are now basically sbc fodder where in the past they would have been valuable additions to most teams

I haven't even bothered to get any of the special cards in objectives since Correa.
Why bother getting Coman when I get Hazard for 30k etc.

Played a guy there with Pele, Guardiola, Vieira, Moore, Cole, Zidane and CR7 in his starting line-up.

He went 4-2-4, so l could basically walk through the midfield, and I went 3-0 up after 20 minutes before he quit.

Now the guy either literally has the most insane pack luck in the entire world, is one of the best traders around, or has spent thousands.

I’m going with the latter.

that's sensible, as a poor enough player it's easily the most consistent way I score goals so it must be OP, hopefully it's more at the volley end they've nerfed it, having a fifa with crossing being useful was great for a change, I just shouldn't be able to bang a wonder volley with my Lima lb card every time.

Good luck! Friday evenings are rough so don't get disheartened. I find Saturday mornings and any Time on Sunday to be the best times to play. Be interested to see what other think ?

Yeah I found that last year alright, or at least a big difference between sunday and friday. Was there ever any consensus on how the matchups work in WL? Is it just wins minus losses and you get matched up with someone similar? And there used to be a rumour that a quit didn't register as a loss for that I think? I'll be playing on the series X so expecting a drubbing anyway
