    I was in primary school when Elvis died so I didn't really understand. I was 14 when Lennon was killed. WOW.

    It is possible to separate the art from the artist you know.


    Lennon could have been the biggest cúnt since Stalin, but it makes no difference to the music he created and fúck me could he make fantastic music. An out and out bona fide genius, anyone who says different just doesn't know what they're talking about!

    Chapman was psychotic and believed he was doig the right thing. He is still being denied parole just because the person he killed was famous, even though they see him as at low risk of reoffending. I don't see why Lennon's death is viewed as more significant than other people's. It's quite unjust that they have not let hm free.

    Amazing stuff alright - there's precious little music that still sounds listenable let alone fresh after 5 or 6 decades.

    ... Harvey Weinstein produced some good movies. I don't see people separating his body of work tho :pac:

    You can almost write these discussions, the comments under journal article about his death followed the exact same path. "Amazing artist RIP",
    "Oh well I'm really informed, me, you know he was actually a horrible hypocrite in real life...",
    "He treated his first wife like sh*t!".
    As if the rest of us are perfect, at least he made some timeless amazing music.

    I'm not making excuses for him but he admitted in interviews that he had been bad to women and had changed his ways.

    I don't see any stories of him beating his child.

    Also not an excuse but it was a completely different era then with different attitudes to women and children.

    Parents would hit children regularly in what would now be deemed a beating and abuse and thankfully the world has changed.

    As for Lennon, I just like his musical talents that he was known for and no matter what he did, he did not deserve to be shot on the street at a young age like he was.

    I'm not perfect. Not by a long shot. But I don't revere exceptionally flawed characters just because they wrote decent songs.

    I can enjoy his music and still call him an arsehole.

    One of the worst songs ever recorded. It’s trite, has a plodding chorus, and the world he envisages would be boring at best, and an unmitigated disaster at worst.

    Song is a masterpiece, and the world it envisages sounds alright to me, a marked improvement on the one we find ourselves living in in fact.

    A tad unrealistic i grant you.....but then you may say, he was a dreamer:D
