Vw and audi tend to be like that. They have discount built into
new price and often manufacturer contributions etc but certsinly seems to be a more customer friendly strategy thst bmw use - insulting the returning customer with trade in offer.

I think I've a 15 to 16k car on my hands for a private sale to be honest... If the right buyer is around at the time... Might take a while but think I'd manage 15k.

So in essence I'd be needing to get at least 5k discount offered tomorrow on a straight sale (not even going to mention my own) to break even on the deal offered today... Both are 40k cost to change.
In fact I'd need more like 6 to 7k discount as I know I'd much prefer to trade in than sell privately and the hassle it brings having people coming to the house and the craic if something goes wrong in the future and the buyer gets pissed.

So I'm looking at audi dealer number 2 to offer me a new a6, specced the same as today for about 53k straight sale to be interested.

I'll pop into bmw afterwards to compare/contrast

    Will be interesting to see.

Either can I. The guy today said he was throwing everything he could at doing a deal. I'd believe him to be honest. Pleasant experience to be honest. I've driven the cars a few times already so don't need a test drive or anything, just a good deal. Feels much the same as my one anyway.

Maybe actually, I think they've gone up in price rather than down in the last 6 months since I checked! There is this nice one in Belfast, just serviced with Porsche warranty and sports exhaust: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202011035744341

I'd say it would be around 45k or so including VRT.

Deane motors get a lot of them in too, you could always contact them with your budget and see if they could source one.

Think we’re spending your money before you have sold the BMW.

I couldn't go with something like that anyway the missus would murder me. Two seats are for the retired with offspring that have flown the nest. I've given up looking for now. No point until the car is sold, if I sell it of course.

Trying to work out what to go for with following criteria
max 60k ish, new or newer than 2019, quick off the mark, comfortable on a journey but the ability to handle well on the twisty stuff, good tech and sound system, comfortable seats with lumbar, hatchback or estate not saloon.Fuel type not important.
    Any suggestions?

Ok it's not a 2019 but it's the same as a 2019 if there was one for sale. 30k under budget and ticks a lot of boxes. https://www.usedcarsni.com/276830201
I know the mk8 is out but the tech is better in the 7.5.

330e M Sport Touring? Morrison's have advertised one or two new ones in stock that seem to have lumbar support speced on them:

Second one is obviously above budget but seems to have most options ticked on it, I'm sure one with a few of those options dropped such as x-drive would bring it closer to 60k?

He’s had a 330e before and I think is still scarred (financially at least!) by the experience.
If going new, the MK8 GTI Clubsport is the obvious candidate imo.

He had a GTi before too. If depreciation is a heavy weight then buying brand new is not the right way forward imo.

Not too fussed on new or up to two years old.
My wife doesn’t understand or appreciate spending money on a car and it not being any newer than what you have.
I am interested in BMW m135i as it’s got the performance and tech etc and the gti club sport for similar reasons. I love the comfort of the 5 series and the user interface hence the 1 series attraction over the gti touchscreens.
A Tesla model 3 would be of interest but I can’t get over the quality issues and if I have any problem the fact I live in limerick could be an issue with Tesla being in Dublin only.
Even was thinking vw id3/4 but not thinking they would tick the fun box.
BMW 330e would be contender except they are too expensive in my view and lose a lot in a short time but this may change with brexit if imports are stopped.
A used Volvo T8 might be nice alright.
I probably want to do a trade in as private sales at the moment may be tricky and I am time poor to be messing or messed around.

Lexus RC 300H? Nice interior, fab exterior. Not blisteringly quick by any means, but I don't think there's a nicer looking coupe on the market.

Is that the one with the CVT gearbox? If so I wouldn’t car how gorgeous it was!

100% reliable but is my no means a drivers car.
I'd have no issue with one TBH, my ole lad has a saloon is300h.
That said the interior is dated for a new car now.

Want 5 doors i.e. hatchback or estate and auto gearbox. The Lexus looks lovely but not my thing. I can’t see much better than the golf or m135i or 128ti.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,446 ✭✭✭Wailin

Clubsport or m135i probably the main contenders I'd say. M135i on a different level performance wise (off the mark), better interior but would you be happy with the looks?

Not sure. M sport 1 series passed me today and looked ok. I’ve watched lots of you tube reviews so maybe I have Stockholm syndrome.
