Some jump in price on the ti when you add 19s.

    Not sure why?
Possibly vrt again but the base price differs from the price quote that JoeA3 got. The configurator also puts the live cockpit professional in by default who’s is 1300 odd.

Yes I was looking at that and there's no option to add the live cockpit at all in the options or packs. Are you sure it's not standard?

it is in the options at the bottom and is pre specced for 1400 euro.
You can untick it to reduce the price.
Apparently the configurator is being updated at the moment and the correct prices for all cars will be done by early next week.

Best review I have seen of the Porsche Taycan.
Everyone seems to be falling over themselves to say how great it is where Harry points out its shortcomings too.

to be fair (and ive only skimmed it) a lot of the shortcomings are ev specific rather than taycan, and 370km of reliable range is pretty good for a performance car. Also he references a tesla with 400 mile range, unless ive missed it i dont think there is one that has a real world 400 mile range?

    nice video though.

He gives out about the price and the poor packaging of the car. Large externally with not great interior space. He also reckons the saloon boot is not too practical and that when the GT hatch version comes out that residually the booted version will be the poor relation.
I still wouldn’t say no to one though.

Yeah not sure I agree with him on that but who knows it is surprising they didn’t do a hatch like the panamera for the boot though

Have a bit of a conundrum lads. When I had the car up on donedeal I had one gentleman in particular from the South of the country who was interested. He couldn't get to Dublin though with lockdown at the time to view the car.

He contacted me last week saying he'd be in dublin this week on business and wondering could he pop over and see the car. I told him I'd withdrawn the ad and was planning on keeping it but he was welcome to take it for a spin since he was in the area.

Anyway, I met him, a very nice gentleman, and literally 50 yards up the road he said he'd buy it for what I was asking for on the ad. Brick in pants was an understatement because I had gotten to enjoy the car again. I have no idea whether I want to let it go or hold on to it. I'd been thinking of an m car again but the thoughts of paying double in tax every year, among other cost increases, doesn't appeal.

I told the chap I'd have a think about it. What could I replace it with? An m340i would do it for me but too expensive right now. After that, nothing else really interests me. An M2 possibly but not sure if I could live with lack of space, comfort, tech etc....same with the m140i.

If you didn't want to sell it you wouldn't have met him...... Although if you can't afford an m340i and the others have drawbacks and you can't think of anything else... You're in a pickle.

    I'd keep it!

Hard one but my gut is if you are getting asking for a valuable car in a private sale, take it and run & you’ll rarely regret it. Out of interest could you buy the same car again from uk for less than you are being offered now?

Having cash to buy a car before Christmas will put you in a nice bargaining position

I’d sell it. You wouldn’t have advertised it in the first place if you were entirely happy with it. Take the cash and take your time replacing it.

I’m with Joe on this one.
You haven’t said it but I have always got the feeling you have never really fallen for the car. You wouldn’t have put it up for sale if you had even if it wasn’t getting as much use as intended.
Take the money if it’s on the table. A dealer will give you 10k less.

What Joe said 110. You're not into it as much as you should be I think for the cost, but I could be wrong and cost is relative to each individual. I doubt you'll be stuck without a car for a few weeks or into the new year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,841 ✭✭✭maddness

Take his money. You now have three fun weeks deciding what to buy from brexitland while you still can and if you can’t think of anything just buy another one and pocket the extra.

I'll give it some thought over the weekend, no need to rush into a decision yet. I've been looking online the last while and there's literally nothing that I'd prefer in it's place currently for sale at the moment.

Is there any scenarios where importing UK cars next year won’t be any more expensive than it is now?

Sure, if sterling drops through the floor.

Generally speaking, the interior of a Porsche is designed to cocoon you and your passengers. The Panamera is a good example - plenty of room for 3 in the back but they’ve only put two seats, the centre column in the front that snugs you into your seat but again, takes up space to do so. The Cayman is that multiplied by 1,000. I think that’s the point - that would be my opinion on it anyway.

I'll echo what the other lads have been saying, always got the feeling you didn't have the love for the G30 especially when you put it up for sale so soon after buying it. You will probably never get another offer as tempting as that again if it is genuine especially if the offer is better than what you paid for it.

Also while there might not be something you want available now, get something cheap but still fun as a stop gap by until something you like becomes available. Remember the G30's value will drop but the cash from selling it now sitting in your bank account won't.

I was surprised when you originally put it up for sale as well but if memory serves me right I recall you mentioning that it was a little underwhelming power wise compared to the 535d and that lockdown(s) meant you weren't getting to enjoy it ? Maybe a return to a fast torquey diesel or more time with it when things get back to normal ?

Either way it's a **** predicament your in at the moment but if he's offering you what you originally wanted for it I'd let it go, buy something cheaper like an early f10 520 or superb and go back to the drawing board whenever suits you.

Your situation is nearly reminding me of CIP4s with the GTi. Maybe yous should both go car shopping together one day :pac:

I reckon you'll regret not selling in 6 months more than you'd regret keeping it. A car can be replaced easily, a willing buyer with cash on the hip can't.

Why not look outside the BM stable? RS3 or a Volvo V60/S60 T8 polestar.. something a little different and out there.

Sure, if sterling drops through the floor.

Of course, and this is definitely possible. But could they agree as part of the deal that there won’t be import duty for example to pay?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,834 ✭✭✭carsfan2

I wouldn’t be banking on being able to import cheaply but who knows?
Dealers here might be happy to stop cheap imports or they may want them for stock.
We won’t know until negotiations finish which may be December 31st.

If he's offering you the price you had originally(i.e. you are actually making money on the car), I would bite his hand off. It's definitely not an easy car to sell I would say(if you changed your mind 6 months down the line), and it doesn't seem like you 100% loved it from the start, which you really should, spending that sort of money.

:D ah I'm nowhere near as bad as CIP for changing cars! It will be the first car I didn't keep for more than 2 years if I sell it.

I'd never go back to a diesel.

The 540i is more than fast enough. I think it was just too similar to the 535d and I'd missed out on the 440i, smaller and sportier. As I said, the car has grown on me a lot, been driving it more, and I like the fact that it's very rare here. The interior is fantastic, best I've ever sat in by a mile. It's not sporty but can you drive a sporty car how it's meant to be driven? Very rarely.

Now I have a chap willing to hand me cash for it when I actually don't really want to sell. Thats my predicament. Do I sell a car i like, knowing how hard they can be to offload and then possibly regret it?

All the comment make sense of course. Take the hand off him etc as I'd be making money on the car. I'll just think it over.

id sell it, once you think about selling something its only a matter of time and there are very few cash buyers for your car in ireland.

id guess your main issue is that you went from a fast 5 series to a fast 5 series so the new car buzz wasnt as great.

I think they will agree a fudge that may well allow uk imports to continue without further duty.

I'm not sure what your practicality requirements are, but with that kind of money I'd be looking at a sorted 997 or if 4 doors and a big boot was a requirement, e39 M5. Both of which could throw up big bills, neither of which will depreciate as much as the 540i & both are a lot more of an event to drive.

How long have you had it? Most people would say driving a such a fresh 540i depreciation free for some time is a winner I would think?

But counter argument is you prob wouldn't get another one at that price now.
