Hopefully will eventually help finally calm things down in donegal.

Donegal is in the Republic though so it won't make any difference in the short to medium term

    277 swabs from 11,856 tests. 2.3% positivity.

Given the tech issues and the variance lately difficult to tell what cases might be

If EVERY swab since last Friday was a new case, there is a potential backlog of 488 cases, including the circa 100 from yesterday.

It probably isn't quite that high, but a figure of 400 today can't be ruled out. However, for the last 4 weeks, cases on Fridays have been a good bit less than swans, so ...who knows!!

Could be anywhere between 400 and 500

Why is the EU slower than the UK getting this delivered?

    Different approval processes.

The UK may or may not have taken a couple of shortcuts depending on who you believe.

Bring on the vaccines! I'm very high risk and working from home. Cannot wait to get back into the classroom and actually teach students again. Maybe by Easter??... Please HSE get this right

Some people online have been speculating they rushed due to Brexit, so they could get as much as they can in before Brexit chaos makes it harder.

At least 70 from yesterday to be added in so 347 cases or more is a possibility tonight. Good to see the 7 day positivity rate rate drop again after stuck on 2.7 for the last number of days.

Later receiving the application, and have to approve the PIL and SPC in 20 odd languages.

If there is a big number tonight, I wonder if they’ll be as quick to point out that it’s backlog...

Think we all know they won’t.

Some of the fall could be due to deaths, unfortunately.

Of course, sadly. Still the lowest number in ICU since early October I think.

Lot's of healthcare workers work cross border and register in both jurisdictions to do agency work. Even if this is minimal it might help a bit.

What data would you provide people with, 72sheep?

Data will never be perfect and that is why there is an onus to explain the specific shortcomings of the set you have chosen. We have been told that the lockdown is necessary to ensure our health system is not overwhelmed (neglecting the ever-lurking, and unknowable, 'long term covid'). That means we need to see data that shows the load on hospitals e.g. bed occupancy vs last year etc. Instead we get a chart of 'football results' for people to cheer.

HSE are only doing half of their job and then leaving the rest to the media (and online bloggers). Shamefully irresponsible.

Not a hope of that happening. And if 400+ cases reported this evening all journalists will report the number as cases from the last 24 hours. George Lee will freak out over the rise from yesterday.

    Very concerned.

They said something yesterday about an IT error accounting for a shortfall of 100, so I'm expecting it'll be over 300 anyway

    Ha True very concerned

Yes cases probably will be over 300

    I wouldn't be shocked at 400

Unfortunately all a lot of people will see is the headline figure whatever that is and won't factor in the IT glitch

Tony also said they'd break out today's total to show the numbers relating to the IT issue.

5yo woke up with a tickly throat and slight cough this morning, it's kinda weird when you hear stories about people who had mild symptoms and didnt request a test and isolate immediately, as there was definitely a little bit of "well, is this it or just a tiny cough or two?"

Erred on the side of caution, especially due to medical history, GP agreed and organised a test, of course she hasn't coughed once since 7am  But better to be safe than sorry, so kept her off school and wife and I are staying in until test this afternoon.

Test at 3.45pm yesterday, results back almost bang on 24hrs, negative thankfully.

It would certainly help along the border areas. They may be in different jurisdictions but in day to day life the amount of crossover is quite large.

    6 deaths, 265 cases.

The backlog due to the IT issues will be included in tomorrow's case numbers. Dept of health noting in the press release that tomorrow's will be higher due to this but that the cases will have been contract traced and case management process hasn't been delayed
