It spreads in kids who don't really get sick or get tested. It spreads to the parents who are mostly fine when they get it. Then it hits the grandparents and the small percentage of younger people who are vulnerable and numbers rise. That last part would start happening around a month or two after spread in schools, if that's what's happening.

That would be my take on it, but I'm not in Ireland so haven't been paying as much attention recently as I was.

Thankfully we haven't had foreign rule for 100 years, is there anyone who would like your opinion in the country you live? A bit rich giving your opinion on a country you don't live in and by your own admission haven't been paying attention to.

I can only offer my own experience. I have worked continually throughout this along with my colleagues and other than respecting SD and other hygiene practices I find my life has not changed much other than unable to travel at a whim. A close friend who has been off work due to lockdown in March and then at the start of present restrictions doesn't seem to be coping to well. I think work is a great distraction, thankfully WFH is not possible for me.

Not always.. as long as they are physically able for the work and it suits them and is paid a decent wage and is not used to cover up symptoms which build up and suddenly explode.

See many people working in conditions that are not healthy environments and end up unhealthy the most basic being in a job that is too sedentary, boring and repetative. Not everyone has the luxory of having their dream job or even being on track to get it.

You can be buzy and not working... I think it is more about connecting with the right sort of people for yourself and a change of scenery being out and about and feeling you are doing something you enjoy personally but also contributing to others.

By the way some of the most resilent people throughout this situation are those who cannot work due to disability and serious chronic ill health as they have had to bulid resilence up through sometimes life long adversity and are the least likely to be working due to discrimination.

At lot of these have been cocooning at one level or another by themselves as they are more likeky to live alone and not have a car....I think that is harder than those who can essentialy go to work.

Not a simple issue and has been made even more complex at the moment. But I get where you are coming from.

No, too much is expected from people these days and many who work in offices don't get to "switch off" when they finish their day.

Private sector office work especially IT is very very stressful and demanding, with a lot of wannabe Gordon Ramseys itching to crack the whips.

The guy said he hasn't heard a coherent argument so I gave it. Apparently hospitals aren't that busy these days so you should be able to go get whatever is stuck up your hole removed.

    Lads,

Back with a 5th post and a general observation… Lots of the opinions here can best be characterised as an induced civic malaise, where communities have been so punched-drunk by daily media briefings that they just absorb whatever they are told that evening (e.g. we are now obsessing about the - unknowable - “long term Covid” and nobody is talking any longer about mortality rates). Any questioning, let alone a tendency to action*, is seen as an act of treachery by the masses. The IT Weekend section will have articles from psychologists explaining the phenomenon.

The question for all of us is if there are any circumstances under which we would take some individual responsibility. Pride/shame exists at these boundaries. For your consideration: hearing your child say “my daddy stayed locked down for the full [xx months/years] until the RTE presenter told him he could come out.”

Remember the names of the people.

    * Sorry, staring blankly at the pages of Nature and doing pretend Pfizer supply-chain logistics analysis does not count as action :-) For the academically inclined, maybe try a back of the envelope calculation on the probability of multiple global pharma cos independently discovering 90%+ efficacy vaccines at pretty much the same time.

** Hopefully there’s nothing so distressing here as to warrant appeals to a higher authority i.e. Mods :-)

No one should have to get on with it. Getting on with it and it's the same with any work if you are pushed too much it takes it's toll on the body just as much as the mind.
Get run down and over worked, more prone to getting infections etc and the ability to fight off infections is lessened. Overworked also more prone to slipping up on protecting yourself from getting covid

According to the samaritans there were 419 suicides in Ireland in 2019.

Since Covid began, in 2020 there have been 70,930 cases.

There have been 2028 covid deaths.

    2020 isn’t over.

Statistically covid is the most serious health crises.

Covid can feel like a cold in some. People walking around with self diagnosed colds. How is that an overreaction?

If they can walk around that means it is not that bad for them. It means their immune system is working and they are fighting it off.
No overwhelmed hospitals and naturally acquired immunity if they can walk it off. Win-win situation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 568 ✭✭✭72sheep

Last I saw, the WHO guidance was that Covid should be recorded cause of death where it cause or contributed to the death. (There are comparable wrinkles when it comes to counting "Covid cases".)

More than likely then some of those tragic cases are not suicides, but are in fact "Covid deaths". Should someone tell the parents?

Are they looking for the opinions of people who are not living in the country and have not been following events there?

I gave a coherent argument since it was asked for. The fact you're focusing on my location instead of the logic says a lot about your ability to refute it.

This is not what is happening, recently alot of the cases are hospital workers or patients, outbreaks in nursing homes, the above scenario is not happening to my knowledge, presumably there are exceptions, I admit to having a bias against people making recommendations and assumptions who are not living in Ireland, moreover when they say that they are not following events here.

And for that there are treatments. No treatments for somebody who has died of Covid unfortunately.

Sorry never realized you were a moderator. And its not a hypothetical situation there's three vaccines right around the corner and there seems to be no preparation at all in Ireland.

If you don't like the harsh truth that the HSE is a mess then I suggest you go outside and clap for them a few times in your driveway rather than having a go at me. It might stop the random outbursts.

    Sigh

Not sure if this has been posted here yet or not. A video has surfaced of Prof Luke O’Neil talking to a class of school children by zoom, in which he declares they all have to get the vaccine. And that we may have to wear a permanent non-removable ‘bracelet’ - ‘which could pose a problem to our civil liberties‘ he jokes.
    1. How is it legal for a Professor to effectively start grooming children with ‘appearances’ in schools like this? ‘You can take off the mask if you comply with these future measures’. He also posted a coke ad alternative also re the vaccine coming.
    2. The Department of Education should investigate this urgently as it sounds like a sponsored/paid partnership appearance effectively trying to influence our youth into a course of action regarding their health and well-being, a group who also remain the least affected by Covid.

Wow, that’s shocking stuff. I wonder how many parents were informed about his video link and which school it was? How much money is this guy and his cronies making out of the Covid vaccine you’d have to wonder.

Complete nonsense video selectively edited to drive an agenda. Do people who would regard themselves as reasonably intelligent seriously buy into this baseless polemic nonsense

Ah come on...Luke O Neill and his cronies?! He's an immunologist not a mexican politician in bed with the cartels!
He won't make anything off these vaccines, he has nothing to do with these companies.
I agree the video is a bit much..he probably needs to tone down his appearances.

I’m pro vaccine so not opposed to any of that. I have a big problem with what he was saying in the video though. And to children too.
