The standard was low this year . Imagine what Nadia would have produced

Both lads didn't do great so could be either one who wins.

I'm still guessing David but could be wrong.

Ah delighted for Peter, he is lovely + so young.

Happy for him !! He did well

    The right winner.

Given his standard throughout the whole series.

I said from the very beginning that Peter would win and I really liked him. I was a little bit shocked that Dave didn't win because I thought he had it tonight!

Those show stoppers looked somewhat amateurish for a final.

Poor enough standard but fair play to Peter

Poor Dave, he wanted it so much!

Ah fair play, nice lad, and so young to have done so well :)

Right person won - but the other 2 made terrible mistakes in the final.

I have to say fair play to all the crew + contestants for making Bake Off this year + living away from families for so long.

Great to have something to watch in lockdown when so many other things have been paused.

    Delighted for Peter.

I thought Dave might get it as they'd been making such a production about how much he'd improved.

The updates on what everyone has done since end of the show were extremely boring too.

Was thinking this also, that was some mighty effort by all concerned!

Well in fairness, there hasn't exactly been much scope for exciting activities or achievements, now, has there??!!

Was just about to write the same!
People would be complaining if they had done stuff outside of the restrictions sure :pac:

    The right winner.

Given his standard throughout the whole series.

But , they keep emphasising it's all about the week's bake and I thought Dave had the edge

This series has left a feeling of not being arsed it's all over. Very underwhelming from hosting and odd challenges

Correct winner for me, so consistently good.
I think I called it pretty early on :)
Dave ran him very close he really improved.

Did Paul say that he was the first winner that was Scottish? Surely that's a West Country / Somerset accent he has?

Nope he's from Edinburgh but a quick google says he had lived everywhere!

Actually ignore that...i got the wrong peter :pac:

I always get a bit emotional with the recap at the end :)

I think they are all a likeable bunch tbh this year.
Sura what the heck happened with that last bake...what a disaster!

I think Peter is standout for me so far.
To quote myself :) from a month plus

Really enjoyable series....don't miss Sandi at all...Matt Lucas is fun but seemed a tad nervous.

I thought the clips at the end were lovely!

I actually got a bit emotional at the end. Bake off really was a great lift to 2020!

Really enjoyed that season, probably my favourite since the channel 4 move.

Peter was a great winner, seems like a super lad.

I thought they were the best thing about the whole series!

I found it all very disappointing.
Maybe it was all just a bit too intense for everyone. Not being able leave and see family may have affected the contestants form.
In previous years, I think they had a week between recording episodes? They mightn’t have had the same time to prepare this year. When paying for a hotel and all that staff, I’m sure the producers kept filming timelines to a minimum.

I read this article a few weeks ago

2 days on 2 days off for 6 weeks for filming.
    Same time to prepare

I thought the series was very meh, myself (and frustrating in parts) - but I thought Peter was a great baker throughout, and given they were pretty much even on great bakes and mistakes after the showstopper, for me he'd shaded it just because his looked more impressive - it was taller and neater than Dave's.

But that was a close one!

The end bits always get me as well.

Was it my imagination or did Hermine not feature in them (much)?

I'd say the finalists were properly bollixed by the end of that!

May explain the lower standards of bakes this season.....

That’s pretty grueling and I’m sure had to have an effect on the outputs.

This whole series has been pretty poor

    Can't disagree with this.

Aye. Laura as a finalist was pretty ridiculous and she demonstrated why tonight. Generally the cream rises to the top on the show and all the finalists are deserving of their spot but not this year.

I thought Dave should have won. I thought he just pipped Peter.
